What pressure. He won the hitouts 42 to 16 last night and the hitouts to advantage 10 to 6 and had 20 disposals (just Crisp, Sidebottom and Madgen had more). It's really easy to miss the fact that Collingwood fields a dreadful side, most weeks, in which only about half the players are AFL-standard.

Grundy keeps doing what he does. It's rather like the criticism of Cloke after 2012 as the forward-line disappeared around him - somehow, it seems to be easier for people to focus on why one of the side's actual A-graders can't win games single-handedly, rather than why our Coach has accumulated a list full of spuds. He's actually winning more hitouts than and getting almost as much of the ball, so far this year, as he did in the year he got 24 Brownlow votes. It's just that it wouldn't matter who was in the ruck, surrounded by most of the present midfield - many of whom seem to be allergic to the ball.

It’s no coincidence that as soon as Greenwood came on, he won centre clearances. He read the play, the taps, and positioned himself to win the ball and boot it forward. Maybe he didn’t have a hard tag riding his ass like Pendles and Adams did though?

Aker sounds crazy but part time small forward craft
Simon black for the kids

I’m sure that this bunch who have pedigrees of being ruthless on the field will shake our list up.

In reality it won’t happen but at least I’d like Voss as the coach.
Not the worst idea.

This soft list needs a ruthless coach who will not tolerate laziness and softness.

I see the Blues sit a game ahead of us on the ladder, great...oh well, at least we have the Bombers to keep us company.

I mention those two clubs because that's what we are in for folks, years if not decades of mediocrity.

Blind Freddie could have seen this shitshow coming after years of sycophantic pandering to the ego of Eddie, and now here we are, no coach, no president, a list heavily skewed to either age end, and a 7 year million dollar contract with a player who just doesn't give a rats arse

^ Lucky he's so good that he's the team's best player most weeks, then.

I mentioned Jonathon Brown in another thread a couple of weeks ago, not sure if he would be interested but I'd be keen to bring him in in some capacity, a good footy mind and a great leader

As you pointed out earlier, he doesn't have that much competition for best player

Scott Pendlebury is 33 years old. He probably has 1 more season or at most 2 more until he retires. Who do we replace him with?

On Pendles has anyone noticed he has either got caught a little more and some of his decisions aren’t up to his high standards

Same goes for Sidey

Because there’s so much placed on their shoulders. They can’t carry the midfield forever. We need a succession plan. Our midfielders are struggling linking up with Grundy. If it wasn’t for our backline we’d get smashed by 50-70 points a game.

And that’s a good point. Several times a game a player will be indecisive on what to do and a player bearing down on him so seeing Pendles he will dish off to him and at time when someone is manned up on Pendles

Even a great player like Scott would be in trouble

I don’t think that to same degree with Sidey as over last couple of seasons his decision ain’t as good as early days

Early days Sidey had Swan, Beams et al in their prime presenting options to kick too. Different game 10 years ago too.

As two of the dwindling experienced players out there both Sidey and Pendles are the go to for the lesser skilled and also lesser experienced when they are in trouble

Tough gig that!!!!

Beams... what another disaster from the last 10 years. FIGJAM sure as hell demolished that 2010-11 team.

David wrote:I'm not sure anyone has ever actually offered a compelling case that we wouldn't have picked up Ball and Jolly if it hadn't been for Malthouse knowing his time was nearly up. We finished 2009 in 4th spot with our premiership window very much open and a number of great young players coming through, desperately needed a ruckman and Ball just happened to be going for free. So to my mind the notion that we only won the premiership in 2010 because of Buckley has always just been a narrative.
You’re correct. Just another of the fantasies being spun to support the changeover in 2010. Malthouse had his faults but you could never criticize him for not playing the kids. And he knew when to make the call on player’s careers when they were finished.
