Scott Pendlebury (Silk)
Moderator: bbmods
Just read Pendles comments. This is a non story. Thinking about it more, Buckley may have been a much more effective coach if he’s taken time to explore other clubs. If Pendles does this Sam Mitchel style is it the end of the world?
The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.

The man has been offered a fair deal, do not piss in my pocket about what's left to barrack forPies4shaw wrote:If Collingwood were to let Pendlebury go at age 34 and when he is still our best (and greatest ever) player, what would there actually be left to barrack for? It isn't like we need the list space and he's being squeezed out.

Yeah 2028 cannot come quick enough for me! That’s how long it’ll take for this wreck of a ship to be steered anywhere near a flag. It will be a very long process of grabbing talent before it too is diluted by adding more teams to the competition. Realistic expectations are better than having unrealistic expectations that only sets us up for failure. It will take time to achieve any success with competent administration, player recruitment and management playing a crucial role.BEAMER09 wrote:Apparently it's a yawn now and fair enough.Lazza wrote:Agree. The reason we have been so hopeless this year is a direct result of the shabby treatment of a number of players last year. Spirit and camaraderie are all about emotion. If we lose that, we lose everything.
The moves have been made, let's hope the right people are now appointed and the ship is steered in the right direction towards a Premiership.

In the long run, moving McGuire and Buckley will be the best thing the club has done and can ensure it has the reset it desperately needs. The process of transitioning away from them has already begun and will bear fruit in the coming months and years.BEAMER09 wrote:Apparently it's a yawn now and fair enough.

I felt like the club had almost become a fiefdom for these two, and it was time to inject some freshness into the club.
A new coach is coming, which will at least give us some excitement and allow us to speculate over the off-season how we'll play next year. For the first time in a long time, I'm actually excited to see the style of football we play next year.
On the board front, it needs to be resolved at the AGM with an election. Once it's settled whichever way it goes, I don't want to hear about it next year. It was a distraction all year.

I don[t think it as bad as you think. Your frame of reference has been very much distorted by the glacial ball movement and low rate of improvemnt (if it even actually existed at all) that we experienced while Bux was the coach (2018 being the exception which only proves the rule). Chris Fagan has shown what can be done when there is a coach and assistants who know what they are doing, and aim to form a strong bond with their players.Lazza wrote:Yeah 2028 cannot come quick enough for me! Spot on. Exactly the right thing to do.thesoretoothsayer wrote:It is perfectly reasonable and prudent for the club to offer a 33 (34 next January) player a one year deal.
This is what a professional, well-run football department would do.
Whilst this seems to upset many people it gives me some hope for our future.

Under Eddie Collingwood liked to hand players like Mason Cox for example 500k a year for three years, because he played a few good games!

I think it is also perfectly reasonable for Pendles to ask for a two year extension with all the blood, sweat and tears he has shed for Collingwood. Pendles could easily join the few other current AFL players in their early to mid thirties. A professional club should be able to handle this. However the damage already inflicted by the dumb overs paid to Grundy is the trigger that makes other players ask for more $. Collingwood has made it’s own bed of thorns and now have to deal with the past mistakes. If so many Nicksters saw the danger in paying so much for Grundy, how come the club didn’t? That my friend is utter incompetence.thesoretoothsayer wrote:It is perfectly reasonable and prudent for the club to offer a 33 (34 next January) player a one year deal.

The problem is Collingwood spent all its cap on players that have not worked. What we don't know is how much Pendles wants for 2 years.I think it is also perfectly reasonable for Pendles to ask for a two year extension with all the blood, sweat and tears he has shed for Collingwood.
A team in the premiership window maybe. Not too many others would take a 34 year old. We are at the wrong end of the scale for where he and the club want to go.Pendles could easily join the few other current AFL players in their early to mid thirties.
