Dale Thomas is a Collingwood hero and will always be welcome at our Club. When he decides that his time is up with Carlton, we should welcome him back to our senior side in recognition of the greatness and excitement he gave our Club. A pleasure to watch. I hope the Club gives him life membership very soon. A true Collingwood champion. I will stand and applaud him when he plays for Carlton. Not that I like Carlton, but to thank him as a player for what he did at Collingwood. Can't wait to see him back in the Black and White to spend his last years as a player at the Club he really belongs too. Good on ya Daisy. A true Collingwood hero. Don't listen to those evil disloyal fans who say bad things about you. They are simpletons.

here, here Hiss. But you hope he still has a bad game right.

People should look at what the Boston Celtics did this year when Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett (who play for a New York team). the takeaway has been described as follows: "Boston fans get it!"

^gotta disagree with you there E. KG and Paul Pierce are in the final act of their illustrious careers, Dale is still(injuries permitting) in his prime.Boston were clearing the decks after a pretty successful run over the last 6-7 years, we are still right in the mix for the ultimate over the next few years. Both players didnt want to go but realised it would be better for Boston if they left, Dale went on radio and called out the fans for having "egg on their face" or words to that effect, then left a few days later. Last but not least, the Boston-Brooklyn/ New Jersey rivalry is nowhere near the Pies-Blues rivalry. Sure they are divisional rivals but their playoff record consists of 2 meetings in the Eastern semi finals and finals about 10-12 years ago, both won by the New Jersey nets. Pies Blues runs deep, real deep, 100+ years deep!

It's like hating one of the goal posts.

Darth Thomas has nothing to do with the rivalry between Carlton and Collingwood. He is just a pawn in the game, he has never played Carlton in a final as a Collingwood player, never done anything particularly historic against them or had them do anything interesting to him and in my mind it is better that he go to Carlton than Geelong or Hawthorn. Or even Freo. Or Brisbane. I would have absolutely hated that.

And what if Hiss is all over it? What if he came back?

Has there ever been a player that came back?

Did we love him again?

Might we regret what we are saying now?

Yes Dale Thomas represented Collingwood for 8 years and played over 150 games for the black and white, a great achievement. Yet, this no reason to make him a life member.

2010 Premiership reunion for Mr Thomas

a lot of what you say is true (you are wrong about the rivalry, New York and boston are rivals as cities and that is more than enough - first time Pierce put on the Brooklyn uniform, he actually said words to the effect of "of all the places I cvant believe I'm in New York").

Also, let's wait and see at what part of his career Dale Thomas is (certainly Collingwood didn't consider him in his prime as they do with say Scitt Pendlebury or Travis Cloke - players who they locked up for 4-5 years without hesitation). Do you offer a 2 year below market contract to a player being offered market and 5 yrs to a player you consider "needed"?

finally, the "egg on their face" comments still irritates me because it was very out of character for Daisy. I would love to know the facts leading up to that comment. I believe that when he made the comment, he thought there was a strong chance he was staying. I wonder if Thomas proposed a near market offer and then Collingwood decided not to accept it.

don't you think about that?

I keep logging in to nicks and all I keep seeing is the same high horse posters trying to bash the world into thier way of thinking..........

For mine the point is missed on the above.

Dale Thomas didn't want to be at collingwood. Not the other way round. The pies let him go because he wanted to go, not because they didn't want to meet his contractual requirements.

And if in fact his ankle is fine and he knows it, the argument of leaving to ensure financial security / betterment in face of a career ending ankle injury falls flat on its face. Yes there's an "if" in there.....but there's an "if" in the alternate argument too.

I don't think this thread would still be going had dale pulled on a suns or giants jumper. And what I don't understand is why people can't accept that the Thomas trade cut to the core of a lot of fans due to a long rivalry between the two clubs. A rivalry some on here don't feel......but some do.

People are entitled to repeatedly fly the dale Thomas flag, but given what daisy meant to the club, his age, his ability, what he said in the media and the circumstances under which and where he chose to go means people are entitled to view him as a disloyal traitor ......how is that normal human emotion hard to understand. Why do some feel they need to keep convincing people they don't feel the way they do?

Personally I can't believe we are still talking about him and this will be my last post in the thread as I couldn't give two shits in a rats clacker about Dale Thomas but I can understand why some do. I accept the point of view of dale looking after dale but others should accept the view especially that of some kids who perhaps lost a role model. (Yeah I went there)

People get that footy is a business they don't need educating on it by the high horse brigade. While the flag flyers are having a little love in with daisy, others are cursing his disloyalty, and others still like me have buried him in the past.

We all have different starting points so all approaches are fine in my book.

P.S. This thread should be locked and buried with him.

I love that when you cant get someone to agree with you, you belligerently call them "high horse" posters. Its funny that you are the one throwing the aspersions. if you bothered to read the thread, you would see healthy debate and a lot of your points have been acknowledged along the way.

N9ot all of them though as a lot of your main points are based on assumptions I simply don't accept as fact (hence why there are two sides to this coin.

Its quite ironic that this side of the coin is simply trying to note that there are two sides, and yet your side of the coin feels like that is worthy of abuse.

Nice work mate, keep it up.

PS: the one correct you thing you said is that you should have stopped posting to this thread. The truth is you cant allow anyone else to take a different view to you on this issue.

I think this thread reflects both sides of the argument and both sides have merit. since none of us really know the facts, I think that is where it must end.

If his ankle is stuffed the scum will drop him quicker than a pommy outfielder. But it is his decision and he ,and us, live with it. We sit back and watch his replacement kick arse. Plus he has to put up with Dave The Man abusing him over the fence. He must be quaking in his million dollar boots.
Commercial opportunities? Imagine how much money we made off his image use with junior membership. Millions.

Great post SZ.

But you can't win trying to kill a thread by posting in it can you?

Will we ever learn?

You are right and if it wasn't being repeated ad nauseum I would be able to accept others' different reactions more easily. They are entitled to them. But as we have been saying for months we are entitled to ours.

I am a plus one for locking the thread. At least until there is some actual news? As TP mentioned there has been very little. Just a lot of off-topic stuff that has been done to absolute death.

*insert obligatory animated gif of dead horse being mercilessly flogged*

I think the idea of locking a thread simply because people keep posting in it is a little odd.

Before long the footy will be back and Dale Thomas' performances will be a hot topic amongst many Collingwood supporters. I would suggest that anyone that isn't interested should just not visit the thread.

^ you're probably right about the rivalries E, more of a long standing city vs city thing than a purely basketball thing though. I think the main difference is where the clubs are at in terms of championship success.
