There's even talk LeBron James will leave Miami Heat if they win their third NBA championship in a row. Get used to it people it's what real professional sports all over the world do.

You have to remember that most players in the AFL end up playing for a club they never barracked for as a kid. It's a paycheck. That's why people move from one company to the next in the business world. Only a fool stays at a company for less money out of sheer loyalty. That's the free market at work. And it can be win-win, because the clever clubs can use free agency to lever champions from other clubs to their own.

Anything else is restraint of trade imo. And in Europe it would land you in court. Literally. There they have no salary caps, no drafts and complete free agency.
That's true and I wont disagree with you.

The biggest gripe Shae had when he was down here, as far as I could see (I had to remove him from MyFace and Twitter in the end) is the fact sport is still a passionate thing here and people still loathe people who leave their club. Although he did say he loved the passion of the supporters.

He then started telling people to get used to the business side of it because that is what sport is in the end... business.

That I also agree with.

The business side of sport is only just starting to come into Australian sports now. Maybe the AFL is just a long way behind NRL, I don't know.

But it's going to take tie for the business aspect to be fully accepted. I'm 29 and it might be my generation or the next generation that accepts it, but it's not going to be an overnight thing.

I do agree that people need to get used it, but I also think those who constantly baffle on about it being a business need to be sympathetic to those who have been following a team for 20-30yrs longer than us who only know sport one way.

I hope Dale is fit and firing and has no further ankle problems. Chronic injuries are a curse and no player should have to suffer them.

I'm confident the scum will still be too shit for finals with Dale Thomas playing :D

I think my dream scenario would be for the Blues to really struggle but for Thomas to have a blinding season and win their best and fairest. Only to then have to watch the Pies win the flag and know, given his red-hot form, that he would've been in our best 22.

And even with the free market, no salary caps, no drafts etc Liverpool and Man Utd won't trade players directly to one another.

It is called a rivalry, and there is no bigger one in the AFL than Collingwood v Carlton.

Whilst I don't wish ill of anyone, I do take a certain perverse pleasure in the possibility that Mick and the Scum might have traded the town hall on a player who has a career ending injury. Sorry, I just hate the that much.

I'd say the rumour is shite. No team could cover up such an injury for so long.

Really! I mean we are talking Carlton here . This mob were charged and convicted of the biggest salary cap cheating in the history of our game. They had been covering it up for years. Get real mambo! Carlton specialise in doing whatever they can to cover stuff up.

I would think that his ankle is vulnerable and he will not last the season without a major trauma to it. So it goes when you leave the mighty army for the cash carrot offered by a mob that pulled in a ball outside the boundary line and stole a premiership off Collingwood not so long ago. I was there and sat where the ball was. It was out by a mile. Don't give this mob an inch I say. That cup was ours.

Thomas is not a favourite son of Collingwood. He walked and joined the enemy. We had a name for that in the Army.

Jezza wrote:If Thomas has re-injured his ankle then Carlton will look like the laughing stock considering all the signs were be there in the first place. I don't wish anything bad to happen to Dale but I hope he fails miserably at Carlton and I no longer respect him now. I can't forget his brilliant efforts of 2010 and 2011 but in my book going to Carlton after playing for Collingwood is unforgivable.

Happy New Year fellow Magpies.
This is from the Carlton board, Micky`s lil pet is struggling.
In Melb for a bit so had a quick look this morning...first time in years. Pretty low key sesion over an hour and fifteen minutes or so. Plenty dropping in and out of main group so hard to say who is training without restriction. Few random observations...AW just looks to be playing his own game on the track, does everything at 110%. Judd moving well and looks up and about, Bootsma moving with plenty of purpose and covering ground well. Hendo and Army grinding out 400's, Thomas and Scotland running slow laps and looking pretty knackered...I am hoping I had just missed them doing a fitness test or something as they were sucking them in bigtime. Daisy not moving well it must be said.
Suck it up Scum, you deserve each other

GO PIES

Channel 9 news just reported that Thomas is ready to resume full training.

They showed him going through some drills and he moved well.

This guy can potentially become Collingwood's most hated player, or is that just me?
