Fun fact, only 4 of our 15 Premierships have been won while a Queen was Monarch, the others were when a King was on the throne.

And while we're talking public holidays, penalty rates should be scrapped for all except Christmas Day and people who work the holiday get a paid day in lieu instead.

We get a choice if we have to work a public holiday between time in lieu or overtime, but TIL accrues at same rates so you work a public holiday you get 2 days off if you choose.

Even that is a lurk as far as I'm concerned. I have some sympathy for people who have no choice, who are rostered to work, but if you choose to work on the day, get a day off later instead.

Granted the extra cash is incentive, but if you're on decent coin to start with a whole chunk of the overtime just goes in tax. I'd rather just the day off, I haven't been paid overtime this century.

We definitely don’t get a choice if we work or not, that’s dictated by factors not only outside our control but outside the organisations as well.

Last time I had to work a public holiday I took the overtime as I wouldn’t get the opportunity to cash in those 3 extra days of TIL. Plus I was on higher duties so was even better!

We did indeed. Stui pointed out somewhere that we've played off in a grand final every year that a new British monarch has commenced their reign (1901, 1910, 1936, 1952). Same for coronation years: 1902, 1911, 1937 and 1953; in each case, it's two wins and two losses. Given those precedents, it's most likely that Charles will be crowned next year, I'm guessing.

I believe they conducted a similar poll with a similar result in early 1649. It's amazing how a poor King Charles can tank so quickly in the ratings. Time will tell. They probably won't execute this one, though.

Is there any danger of pollsters asking the question properly, i.e. 'In your opinion, should Australia remain a monarchy or become a republic'? Of course when you make it a binary choice between the status quo and a specific model (in this case an elected president, which, for what it's worth, I'm not all that keen on either), you're going to reduce the numbers of people supporting a change. A broader monarchy vs republic question might still get a majority supporting the status quo, but it'd surely be a narrower one.

Unfortunately the correlation there appears to be less tied to the monarch's gender than whether or not ballpoint pens had been invented. We won 11 premierships in 40 years until that fateful moment; since then, it's been 4 premierships in 84 years.

By ancient right, almost all the wild, or unmarked, swans of England - at least, those quiet and beautiful snow-white birds known as mute swans (Cygnus olor) - are “owned” by each successive British monarch.

Charles can add to his personal wildlife protectorate whales, dolphins and sturgeon that come close to the shore of England, too.

He also inherits the Queens estate, including all the crown jewels, but has to hand over the Duchy of Sussex that he's spent 50 years turning into a money making machine to his heir Prince Billy. As a quirk, they get the proceeds from rental and other income but aren't allowed to dip into the principle by selling anything off. The system has been designed so that the Monarch and Heir have an independent income into perpetuity, no one crazy heir (or Monarch) can sell up and hit the tables at vegas like so many other inheritors of wealth who did nothing to earn it.
