Qualifying Final. Magpies v. Demons. All comments.

Moving on from all the ancient history in this thread, who is going to be in the team come next week?
- Frampton for Moore seems simple enough.
But also:
- Elliott will play, so that pushes the sub back out of the team that finished rd 24.
- Still probably need to make room for Murphy and maybe McReery.
- Assume Nick won’t play
They don’t have a giant forward line - can we go smaller down back and potentially play Howe forward to try and nullify one of their interceptors?
I think we might want both Cox and Cameron up against Gawn.
Could Cox do more resting forward than McStay? This might push McStay out (?) which gives the space to bring Murphy in.
Biggest worry I think is the contest and the likes of Viney.
Maybe Beau is the sub.
So that gets us:
Out: McStay, Frampton
In: Murphy, Moore
McReery Sub.

ENOUGH OF THIS ANCIENT HISTORY BULLSHIT, its all well past, gone, done, over, done and dusted. This is a new Magpie team, under a fantasitc new Coach, a very strong MAGPIE TEAM. some people read bout history, but some create it, we are about to create a new chapter in the history of the Collingwood football club. BRING IT ON.
Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

You need to drop another player to bring in McCreery, even as the sub.piffdog wrote:Moving on from all the ancient history in this thread, who is going to be in the team come next week?

It depends on who we play
else Aiden Begg is not that far in his development as a specialist ruckman.

Out: Frampton, Lippa, Finn
In: Moore, Murph, Beau
Sub: ???
Don't want to make WHE the sub because he is the silver ghost, hiding in the forest, no one sees his gut running, but then he explodes out of nowhere at the end of a game to save us.
Don't want to make Beau the sub because he, Ginni, Hill, Elliott, can create ground level chaos in our forward line that May and Lever are not equipped to handle
Don't want to make McStay the sub because he and Checkers keep May and Lever occupied, while Cox drifts forward and the ball gets thumped to ground where our small forwards run riot.
Don't want to make Oleg the sub because his energy and dare an inspiration, and his pace is blistering.
Would perhaps like to make Cameron the sub, but am frightened of the implications of Cox alone, with only McStay as back up ruck, against Gawn. I think we have to play both Cox and Cameron.
I think I am actually leaning to what RB suggested: Sidey the sub. He can fit in anywhere, and sub for any player. His experience will be invaluable as time in the game goes on.
Also preserves Sidey for the next final.

My prediction will be over 90,000 crowd.90 nice wrote:From accounts the QF thursday is tipped to be the biggest night final ever.
Tipped to be around 98k by some experts and could even nudge that 100k mark.
Only thing is its a night game and on a Thursday if its was Fridany night then most definitely 99k or 100k but work the next day means more like 97k.
Weathers fine and clear too warm as well.
I think 98k would be great.
I can not re call the last time i was at a night game with around 97k there.
I can't see the crowd been late 90,000 due to people having work, school commitments.
It would have been better for our match to be played on a Friday night.

Not that it was ever in serious doubt, but McRae confirmed on AFL 360 tonight that McCreery will be playing against Melbourne. Also said that Moore will definitely play and that Murphy will be "available". Refused to categorically rule out Nick and seemed to suggest there’s a small chance he’ll play if his recovery exceeds expectations.

Yes, sorry - I got my imperialist war-monger public holidays confused.stui magpie wrote:When did we play Melbourne om ANZAC day?Pies4shaw wrote:^ If Melbourne were serious about winning, they would drop Gawn and just ruck Grundy. He smashed Collingwood on Anzac Day. From only 60% gametime, he had 26 hitouts, 13 disposals, 2 marks inside 50 and kicked 1.1. Grundy won his 26 hitouts from just 42 contests. By comparison, Gawn won 17 from 37, Cameron 13 from 60 and Cox 12 from 24.
But, happily, Melbourne isn't serious about winning. Leaving Grundy out and playing Gawn, as I expect they will, makes Collingwood's job a lot easier.
In the VFL last week, he had 35 disposals (17 kicks, 18 handballs), 11 clearances, took 5 marks, kicked 3.0 and had 21 hitouts.
Gawn's record against Collingwood is poor. He has played against Collingwood 14 times and been on the winning side on just 4 occasions. 3 of those wins were in 2015 and 2016. In the only winning game he has played against Collingwood in the last 7 seasons, Grundy was playing with him - and monstered us.

Demon Bayley Fritsch in a moonboot for at least the rest of this week. Scans have revealed no damage to his previously injured foot, but there is bruising, so he won’t train until next week. The club fully expect him to tackle Collingwood @FootyonNine
