Hmmm... We've been down that path before...inxs88 wrote:... if we get him for a pick in the 30's Pies fans expectations have to be just that: "he is now a pick 30+ NO LONGER a number 1 draft pick!
Does anyone know what we gave up for Alex McDonald?

Even Watts, the player he is now, would represent a significant improvement on our current second forward. I think he would be a really good addition to our forward line. Team him up with Moore, Elliot and Faz and hopefully a developing crumber and a strong defensive forward and that is a good forward line. It would enable Grundy and Moore to share rucking duties.
It also frees WHE to play on the wing which is i think his best position.

You could be right... or you could be wrong, I don't know the bloke. The Average Tourist wrote:The fire in the belly has always been his problemswoop42 wrote:Given that Melbourne are actively encouraging him to look elsewhere and he's still pining for them in the media indicates to me he doesn't have the fire in the belly to really grab an opportunity elsewhere and will never fulfil his talent.
Buyer beware.
If he has some pride, then maybe with the right influence he could use the fact that he is not wanted (i.e. he is not rated) as something to stoke the fire. Proving someone wrong who had no faith in you can be pretty motivational.
Or he could just be a basket case and is content to never realise his best...
Go Pies!
...or is it possible that he IS trying his best and DOES have fire in his belly. Maybe he was just drafted in the wrong position in the draft? He is having a pretty good career for a player picked at number 30.AnthonyC wrote:You could be right... or you could be wrong, I don't know the bloke.

Not his fault the Dees overvalued him.

Pick #4 1990 draftCulprit wrote:Jason McCartney was #1 pick and he was a better player after he left Collingwood.
The thing that I like at the moment is there is nothing coming out of the club. Outside speculation and managers talking but alas the club is being very very quiet.
In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away

Ah the years kill the memory. Must have been our first pick. Still became a better player elsewhere.Born to Pie wrote:Pick #4 1990 draftCulprit wrote:Jason McCartney was #1 pick and he was a better player after he left Collingwood.

We expected McCartney to go to Fitzroy, but they took David "Dennis" Donato; we were going to take Allen Jakovich. Wish we f&cking had done so instead.Born to Pie wrote:Pick #4 1990 draftCulprit wrote:Jason McCartney was #1 pick and he was a better player after he left Collingwood.
