Warney

Post by Hanskies »

Just heard on a news update that Shane Warne is going to pull out of the world cup becuase he discovered that a drug he took for his injured shoulder is on the banned list. He DID NOT test positive to any drugs!!!

Sad to see this as the world cup was to be his farewell to one-day cricket!!

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Not my Shaney!!!

This drugs nonsense is a JOKE!

As if any drugs can be performance enhancing in cricket - for crying out loud, it's not the most athletic of sports!

Shane Warne will hold a press conference this evening when he is expected to announce he is out of the cricket World Cup.

Warne is understood to have inadvertently taken a banned diuretic to treat his injured shoulder.

It was not clear whether he had been drug-tested.

Warne and Australian Cricket Board chief executive James Sutherland will front the press conference at 9am local time (1800 AEDT) at the team hotel in Johannesburg.

Warne, 33, dislocated his right shoulder in a fielding accident on December 15.

He made a quicker than expected recovery and returned to the team in time for the VB Series finals against England in Australia late last month.

Australia's opening World Cup match against Pakistan starts one hour after the beginning of the press conference.

Warne is expected to fly back to Australia tonight

ABC radio has named the substance as a diaretic.
My only knowledge of such things is that they are commonly called a "masking" agent, and used to hide steroid use.
Steroids are helpful in recovery from tissue damage.

What I don't get is that he says he used the diuretic for weightloss- sorry warney, I love ya, but how dumb can you be. Diurectics don't help you loss weight, they help you loss fluids, so guess what, as soon as he took a drink of water, the weight (fluid) would be instantly replaced!!!

Not to sure if he can go back over there or not. Depends on an ICC ruling I think!!

Well, Bart, if you're an Australian Selector, you'd be looking at Hauritz, MacGill or even a roughy in Katich but if you're JLC, you'd pick Steve Waugh, wouldn't you?

He's still under the misconception that Steve is an all-rounder so it wouldn't be beyond him to consider him to be a spinner as well!

Donny.

Go on Donny i dare ya climb off the fence and have an opinion. Tell us who you think will replace Warne.....Its pretty easy sitting up on a fence to cast judgement over anyone.

I think they will go for Hauritz as he is a queenslander.

Just for the record Waugh could hold his place in that team as a batsman anyway.

Most likely Australia will play with a 14 man squad. If Warne gets found guilty and suspended its hardly fair to allow Australia a replacement. I think the other countries would have something to say about that.
