I go for South Australia and love Darren Lehmann. I used to love David Hookes, Glenn Bishop, and the like. However i personally would have gone with a younger player. Its important to keep developing the youth. This is the perfect time to develop a young batsman for the future and let him learn from Steve Waugh etc.

Martin Love of Queensland may get a chance soon

There is a Clarke guy in NSW who is meant to be promising

Brad Hodge from Victoria and Matthew Elliot may get another go.

I dont want to see a situation like what happened with the West Indies where they were dominant but didnt develop the youth. Then when their greatsd like Richardson, Haynes, Grenidge, Richards retired they didnt really have the youth coming through and the same applied to their bowling. At least in the bowling department the aussies are developing Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken and there is a young leg spinner named Cameron White starting for Victoria.

Love is probably the best batsman not to have played Tests. He's real class but is nearly 29 m8. Unless Ricky cops an injury, he's unlikely to ever wear the green baggy.

Anyone who goes against Australia Corageous Cloke?

you must enjoy losing!!

I think Roebuck pointed out that including Bichel and Lehman at the expense of Waugh and Lee hasn't made the side any better, it's just swapping players, I personally would've brought in a young guy, maybe not Clarke cause he needs a good state year to feel confident, Hodge is and has done very well the last few years, Arnberger (not sure sp.) is playins excellently for Victoria, I'd love to see him get a crack at opener, but not until Langer get's dropped by the look of it.

I reckon anyone could bat well with Hayden, he's a machine!!

GO AUSSIES!!!!

For those who don't visit the bored board:

Hayden is heading for a new record for a series against the Poms and with Adelaide (read > good batsman's paradise) coming up, he could well be 500+ after two Tests !!

And next day >

For those of you interested in how many Hayden needs. The totals are a little higher than I thought so he still would have to hit big heaps, 675, in the next four Tests.
Most runs in a 5 Test series, Australia vs. England:

974 The Don 1930
905 W Hammond (E) '28/29
834 Neil Harvey '52/53
810 The Don '36/37
806 The Don '31/32
758 The Don 1934
734 H Sutcliffe (E) '24/25
732 D Gower (E)1985
696 Arthur Morris 1948
680 The Don '46/47
Mark Taylor scored 839 but played 6 Tests in 1989.

how good must Don Bradman have been - he wouldn't have got 10 innings to bat either!

Great batting by Hayden but hard to assess its relative value given our bad the English attack are. They were one bowler down and that Hoggard is a disgrace. He hasn't really been challenged in terms of facing good bowling and early in his career he struggled against some good pacemen. He has improved though.

good call abi. you can only play against who the oppositon throw up but its been pretty woeful. hayden's problems in his early years were against the likes of curtly ambrose, allan donald etc. they were seriously good bowlers - it must feel like backyard cricket to him in comparison now. what odds for him to score the 675 needed to break Sir Dons record? i'd just about put money on him.

I think the tour of India made Hayden as a test cricketer. He held the Australian batting together and took his game to another level and made the indian spin attack look easy while most others struggled.

Sure the England attack isnt great due to injuries to Gough and their prmosing quick being cut down by injury. However there are not too many good pace attacks around the world. Pollock for South Africa is world class. Ahktar for Pakistan when in full flight is brilliant. That spell he bowled in Pakistan was breath taking and one of the best spells of genuine pace bowling i have seen. Besides McGrath and Gillespie i dont see any other good pace bowlers in the world.
