Not sure why Rusling is persisted with up back, but Blight looked really really good imo, showed signs i haven't seen before from him. Marked nicely, attacked the ball, really good showing.

I can write a report if you would like one on each player but i think pm has summed it up well.
I would like to see the Player by Player Report Mate

Non listed players

Post by perthmagpie »

Sorry didn't take much notice of the non listed players. Frost quiet and Kris Pendlebury was good. Kris was very strong overhead. Sometimes I wonder if he could make it at AFL. Probably borderline and not worth taking the risk on. But he's a very good VFL player and a great guy to have playing next to the listed players learning.

As for the run off half back to replace Johno it's got to be Goldy if he's match fit. I suspect it'll be round 4 though as he didn't play a whole game today. Perhaps we will just plonk Wellers back there next week. Hopefully thats the Round 1 Wellers and not today's Wellers who looked so 2009.

I reckon MacAffer's a chance as well as Goldsack for Ben Johnson's replacment. The Caff reads the play well & is usually very efficient with his disposal.
Swan is down, Swan kicks the goal! And everything here will be a Magpie celebration!

3RRR

The Pies are back at Vic Park!

Agree, he is AFL match fit as well which will mean that he will be first in line. He provided some great link up play today and uses the ball really well.

A few people in this thread have asked about the VFL game today:

Dawes and JMac are almost there. Dawes kicked 4 before being rested the entire last quarter along with McCaffer. I heard Butters at the quarter time huddle tell the assistants only give JMac, Dawes and McCaffer 75% game time. I reckon Dawes might be really ready by mid season and JMac the same. McCaffer was quiet so I don't think he's in line for a recall next week. JMac didn't get a heap of the ball but kicked 4 goals in the first half and perhaps another after half time. Played almost exclusively up forward and marked very strongly overhead and on the lead. He should be a regular part of our team fairly soon. Barham was busy and Blair played very well. I was up the end we kicked to each quarter so didn't notice the defence as much as the forwards. Nathan Brown was his usual quiet self and Ruz was reasonably solid on the last line without standing out. At least he didn't get injured. Blight was good. This kid had got something special. Just needs more size and self belief which will come. He's going to be a beauty. Rounds is gradually improving and looks stronger this year but will need the whole year in the VFL I'd say. Shae did a few nice things and is learning where to run. He's remarkably competitive for a complete novice. Kicked a nice soccer goal. Lachie Keefe has improved a lot and is starting to win his own ball. Just not sure what position he could own one day. Looks like a skinny ruckman who we are trying to turn into a centre half back or full back. He reminds me of a skinny, young Peter Moore. Hope he's half as good. We lost by 10 points after leading all day. But take no notice of that. We took Goldy, Dawes and McCaffer off the field for the entire last quarter. N.Brown was thrown up forward in the last quarter but had no impact. We were beaten out of the centre except for the first quarter where we kicked the first five goals. Scott Reed did a few nice things too. I worry about Francis. He's tough as nails but just can't seem to get in the play. If it wasn't for Blair we would have got smashed in the midfield like we were at the MCG. It's a worry. The whole list has this weakness at centre bounce clearances and there's not much in the VFL besides Blair that can solve it. Until its solved we can't win a flag. Hopefully Jolly and Ball will come good soon.
i tried to listen to what buttifant was saying to beveridge but got the gist of what you said. dawes and caff had to go to the mcg cos they were emergencies. on occasion rusling looked like he tried to protect his shoulder at the expense of a contested situation.
Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle.

Macaffer and Dawes the likely ins for mine.

McCarthy and Goldsack an outside chance.

Blight a long shot but continues to impress going by the reports.

Blair if on the senior list would come into peoples calculations often.
He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD!
