It is not a sign of character to blindly accept appalling umpiring. It is easy to dish out on someone who takes them to task, and call them a whinger.

I don't consider myself a whinger, though I have found myself doing it a few times this year.

The best I can explain it is to compare the way I felt after the Carlton game to my mood after the Lions and the Roos. I hate the Blues as much as any Pies fan, but after that game, I was ... disappointed. I got over it, I was half expecting it - you can throw the form book out the window when we play the Baggers, we all know that.

By comparison, after the Lions game I was spewing, throwing stuff around my lounge room, screaming at the TV, because it WASN'T FAIR.

Then, on Saturday night, from my seat near the bottom of the top tier, something stirred in my guts when Rocca was done holding the ball after taking a clear mark. My hand went to my forehead as I thought, "Oh f@#k, here it comes again." Sure enough, blow by blow, the umpires imposed themeselves on the contest. After the game I was speechless. I didn't yell or scream. I felt TERRIBLE. I'll take defeat at the hands of a superior enemy, magpie57. I don't expect to win every week and I don't need to find excuses every time we don't. But I do need a level playing field and a fair contest. And if I don't get it, I'll say so.

So take all the pot shots you want. Call me an old woman. I'd prefer you to bag me out than the players.

You seem to be missing the point, I haven't 'bagged out' any players, what I said was it takes a team effort to win games and in particular a premiership.
If you think we can win a premiership with only half the team contributing 100% then I am wasting my time even replying to your posts.
We were 21 points up in the last quarter last week and still got beaten, don't dare tell me the umpires are totally responsible for that.

Magpie57, I agree with you.

We should've put both BNE & North away end of story! We had the lead in both those games yet we lost because our concentration lapsed. Both teams got 1 - 2 easy goals & we turned to butter!

We need to stick the boot in when we're in front & defend our lead not see it wither away.

Yes that was a dodgy centre bounce, but that bounce (any bounce) can & does go either way, it's just the way the cookie crumbles. If we were 5 goals up & they got that goal by that crappy bounce then it wouldn't have mattered, it only mattered because WE let them back in....
WE WERE ROBBED, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, RIGHT IN FRONT OF MEEE!

N.Y METS, N.Y GIANTS, PENRITH PANTHERS & HOBART HURRICANES FAN.

WE ALL LOOK GOOD AT TRAINING, IT'S THE MATCHES THAT COUNT!

"Ordinary backline, ordinary mid-field and a forward-line that is not functioning as it should...I'm sorry folks but that is not a formula that will win us a premiership."

No, mate, you don't bag the players. I'm sure Pendles, Swanny, Max and Harry all feel really flattered by that statement. Just because you don't single players out doesn't make your general dismissal of the team forgivable.

You also implied that we were crap because we got beaten by the Roos and you don't think they'll make the finals. This makes you one of the many morons who refuse to pay the Roos respect despite the fact that they made a prelim, and were one of the few teams to beat the Cats last year. Which makes me wonder why I bother to respond to your texts.

I never said that the umpires were totally responsible, that would be a ridiculous statement. We should have iced the game just as we should have against the Lions. We left the gate open. The point is, the umpires pushed the Roos, and the Lions, through the open gate.

I surrender. Be negative about our team and their chances. Convince yourself that the umpires had nothing to do with the result. Lament the fact that we only have half a team. Predict that we won't win a premiership for another 50 years.

Knock yourself out. Better still, have a crack at yourself with that axe.

You are quite obviously of low intelligence and the type of person who gives Collingwood supporters a bad name. Not once have I stooped to the depths that you have and made a personal attack on yourself as you have with me, do everyone a favour and crawl back under the rock that you came from.

As for you saying that I am being negative, I have always prided myself on being a realist and if you read my previous posts you will understand that.As for my statement about ordinary backline, ordinary mid-field and a forward line that is not functioning as it should,if you think that they are performing up to scratch then you must be from another planet.I love and respect every single one of the Collingwood players and yes some of them are not performing as they are capable of doing, and I am sure that they themselves would admit to this very fact.
I repeat it takes a team effort to win games especially a premiership and I am absolutely certain that if everyone puts in then we can attain that-do you think that is too much to expect?

To finish, I don't know if you have played the game, I have both as a player and a coach and have experienced the highs and lows.as a player I was expected to perform at 100% week in week out and when coaching I expected the same from the players-if they did we were competitive if they didn't we were not.
I repeat for the umpteenth time it takes a total team effort to reach the dizzy heights of a premiership.

Do us a favour, go and barrack for a netball team.

I will not be replying to any more of your ridiculous comments and if you keep it up all further correspondence will be referred to the mods.

There was so much crap in the first three pages of this topic that I haven't even bothered to read the rest. Yes it was disappointing to lose but just a little bit of reality in the discussion wouldn't go astray.

North were a finalist last year and we were very lucky to beat them in our 1 07 encounter. I thought the outcome reflected two teams who match up pretty well with the lead see-sawing throughout the evening. North just happened to be in front at the right (or wrong) time.

Yes Rocca, Reid and Travis had little impact, yes every time Holland went near the footy it ended in disaster. The flipside of that is the continued improvement in Davis, Clarke had his best game this season, Fraser reminded people why he was considered captain material, Pendles had by far his best game for the year, Daisy had his most significant impact across 4 quarters this season, Rhyse continued his outstanding 08 form, Brown and Goldsack showed a bit, Medhurst and Didak were both mercurial and hard working.

It's not all doom and gloom! Our 07 season was equally erratic.
