Just an observation.
Wood and Brown had good first games and (deservedly) coped the plaudits for that. However, they are both young and will get touched up during the season and have bad games. Can we please avoid boosting them up only to tear them down? Lets acknowldge their good games and accept when they have a bad one rather than ripping into them.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

leon was awesome in the midfield at times for round 1, he can really build on 2007 which was arguably his best season
didak was good as well leading into the midfield, but a couple of clangers.
pendles was quite for most of the day, got dragged into defence a few times by his opponent, but still did some good things (that spoil)
thomas was brilliant but didn't play 4 quarters...nevertheless was one of our best.
Cloke was struggling picking up the ball or taking a grab at the 50 meter line
Rusling, before his injury, was having it tough trying to take a grab in the 50 and once the ball hit the deck he looked a bit slow...
Fraser wasnt as dominant as we'd like him to be
Clarke may have forgot the pace of the game for a while
After all these performances, you'd wonder how we won??
The point is....It's Round 1 for FFS!!! even the best players may take a while to find their feet again (hopefully by round 2 or 3)...
so lets not sit there bagging clarke and fraser and just enjoy the win and enjoy the fact that its only gonna get better

It's going to take a couple of weeks for players to remember the pace of the game, especially those who were sick with gastro during the preseason, I think everyone knows how hard it is to get your mojo back after a stomach bug, it'll take time for their get up and go to return. Having said that, I was impressed with the teams' efforts, I loved the work of Dids, Rocca, Swan, both Shaws (why is it Rhyce always plays better when he shaves his head?) and the new boys, Wood and Brown. I saw Brown play a NAB cup game (I think last year?) and he didn't do too well so I was a bit sceptical about him, but I'm pleased to say he's more than proved me wrong. Wood is made for Collingwood. Let's hope he can do for Collingwood '08 and beyond, what Monkey did for the Pies in 1990.
And I have to say, Medhurst was the best pickup from another club we've had in years. Well worth getting rid of Tarrant. Uh... Chris who? Did he play?

i just watched it on bigpond tv

hilarious stuff from mick. especially the last bit, where he was questioned about dale's fitness/performance because dale seemed to not sprint to the interchange bench, but walk instead.
Mick: "He ran 16, or 18 k's incidentally. I'd like to see how you'd run off"
hahaha gotta love mick.
Also, exciting to hear him talk about the future debutants in jack anthony, chris dawes etc...feel like their time is near.

Just a great effort to push through for a win. Across the board, the committment to a team effort showed. I was so wrapt to see the tackling and pressure being applied from the opening bounce, just knew we were going to get there with that mind set. Trav's tackle on Johnson, the desperation, brilliant.
Watched the game on holiday in a beautiful location, Kalbarri, WA. But when the prematch stuff started on the TV, if it was possible, I would've beamed myself to the game in an instant. The 'G' was the place to be. Thought I saw Eddie waiting at the fence at the end of the game with his young fella's?? Top stuff, great to see.
It's a long season, that was a very good start. Cam Wood, you have a ripper against your old team this week, just loved seeing you in action mate. Every bit as good as you were in Albany in the preseason.
There's a bit of purple panic over here..... but that's life.

Great effort!
Good first up win from the boys!!!
I was surprised by Browns inclusion but delighted by his debut performance! Wood was obviously a walk up start [IMHO] and he's going to be very exciting for many years we hope!!
Egan - I'm still concerned about his lack of strength & supersonic hearing [footsteps ]. However, he does add something to the team!
Rhyce - Sometimes his disposal makes me think his the oldest Cloke,.. not Shaw but again, he runs & presents which are very important today!
Rocca - Welcome back big fella!!....still the KEY!
Footy is back people!!!!.... spread the happiness
