Hmmmmmm......struggling up forward. I had penciled this in as a win. Port form has been really bad...shit it doesn't look the best heading into Round 1....
Fingers crossed we get it right come Easter Saturday...

Rolled by 35 points, dissapoining once again.
Looked good in 5 - 10 minute patches, but loose and shaky down back, Port ran it out of our forward far too easy and seemed to have that extra player always on the wings and flanks.
Rocca, Cloke, Thomas, Medhurst all kicked 2 each.
Didak, Davis, Swan worked hard all day, Fraser and Wood very dissapointing in the ruck and around the ground.
Good crowd of about 5,000 there, we have alot of work to do IMO, hopefully we are getting this brand of football out of our system early and start fresh Round 1.
Burns, Lockyer, Presti, Holland didn't play, Port where at full strength.

I was there, that is pretty much spot on. Pendles was good too and Anthony got better as the game went on. Rocca took some good marks and kicked a few.Didcos435 wrote:Some things I picked up on from listening is
Cam Wood dominating when on the ground
Egan chasing hard and playing a decent game
Thomas doing some of the freaky things his known for
Toovey has been ok in defence
Cloke is marking everything coming his way
Lonie was useless i'm afraid, cant see him getting many games unless we cop injuries.

Wood took a great grab in the second quarter down forward, apart from that I wouldnt say he 'dominated' the ruck, but it did take me a while to pick up he was wearing number 19 I'm more than likely wrong LOLpietillidie wrote:I think they said on the radio we dominated the hitouts.MACDAICOS wrote: Fraser and Wood very dissapointing in the ruck

Got there at quarter time today, so can't say anything about the start.
Thought we played ok today and got the feeling that the 2nd half of the last quarter was more about not getting anyone hurt. In that tie we went from 5 to 33 points down, so the scoreboard wasn't an accurate reflection of the game. Overall intensity was what you'd expect for a praccy match which explains why we never really looked like it. Our game is based on killing yourself for your team mates (bit like Joffa's Celtic post) and when there's nothing on the line, I don't expect the boys to endanger their year.
Most of all, was looking forward to seeing JA play today and I'm happy to say that he impressed. Keep an eye over the next few years on our number 9. Good-ish size for now and a great attitude. Nice skills.
Medders had a couple of nice patches. I thought Trav was excellent. The guy's a tank. Wood looked ok and will hopefully get better. Good signs. Leon was a bit out of it. Racer was ok. The usual thing about his kicking, but then he also did some nice stuff.
Daisy gets a pass. A couple of mercurial things, generally good. Should have taken the kick for goal instead of looking for Eags with the handpass. I found myself wondering if any other team tries this easy handpass thing instead of lining up as much as we do. Confidence?
Eags.
Ok so the guy's had a year off. Was hoping for a bit more from him. He was alright.
Lones was ordinary and I'm spewin. Got a soft spot for the old franga boy and hope like hell he can get it together, but today's showing wasn't flash. Couldn't get into it.
Dawes did some nice stuff. Let's hope he kicks on.
Overall, it was worth the 5 bucks to get in. Haven't been to PP in a long time. Brought back a few memories, like our 10 goal finish to put away the lions back in 90. The hunger wasn't really there today though. Was a bit scrappy.

No stressing required.
Relax, like we did in the last 1.5 quarters.
Premierships aren't won in March.
When we were on, we were walking over them during the second term.
Egan could be this year's bolter. Swan was terrific. Toovey impressed me. Cook didn't do much. Davis and Didak had cleaner hands than any other, though the latter's kicking was uncharacteristically poor. Took a screamer in qtr1.
Rocca looked good, for a guy who has had surgery and started the summer later than most. He'll be ok this year. Smarter player than given credit.
Thomas. Patchy, but a goer. He shouldn't ever lose his natural game of taking on opponents, but sometimes he'll need to pin back the years. Pendlebury, opposed to Cornes Chad was ok early before fading. Dawes is not a defender I feel, but sans Presti, Brown, Reid and Maxwell, we were pressed for options. Fought on, but too often, particularly late, our defence, was caught short in terms of manning up.
John Anthony, like this kid. Gutsy. One heart and will to win alone he deserves to make it, and on talent, combined with determination, he can. Looked better when in attack, but he plays hard. Good effort.
Cameron Wood. Thank goodness. We have a ruckman. Yay! The hype is worth subscribing to. As they sing, he knows how to play the game. Moves like a footballer, built like an athlete (204cm, 105kg), hauled down one great mark in the square before passing off to Rocca, pushed forward well, competed/defeated Lade, etc, etc. Good good.
Rusling was all but non-existant. But he's underdone.
Lonie...sigh. I like him, and he played ok in terms of getting the Sherrin, but, Lones, kick it long, deep and directly into attack. Don't get caught up in this Woewodin stuff sideways and backwards. Tuck your shirt in as you did five years ago and go long and strong.
Iles was ok. O'Bree very good. Wakelin was Wakelin. Clarke got a bit of it, already a ball magnet, generally looks corridor-bound.
Jonno, apparantly, ripped it up in the VFL.
Port were full strength. We have a few to return, and a few more cobwebs to blow. Was a good day.
