Usually, when there is more than one topic on the same subject, the topic started later would get locked.

DTM had already started a thread on Gehrig nominating, and then another thread was made just after so they locked the newish thread. Some threads go off topic and they are locked, or they consist of fighting, and such which gets them locked as well.
