It was a very gutsy performance to keep climbing out of the grave but I thought the 5 point margin flattered us a bit.

Geelong never really got into top gear tonight and I think that's why we were able to stick with them.

It was a terrific learning year though; one that should set up a dynasty, provided we can find a ruckman.

The young boys were great, especially Cloke and Clarke.

If ever anyone doubted the importance of ruckmen it was plain for all to see tonight.

Josh, forced to ruck single handedly most of the year, broke down.
We were left Larry and Curly and they don't cut the mustard.

We must move heaven and earth to get a ruckman and I can only see one possibility and that's Jolly, IF he still wants out of Sydney.

Swanny Brilliant...
Medhurst Did his job extremely well..
Bucks was good..
Leon = Fantastic
Wakes & Clement - Solid

On the other side of the coin:

Thomas - Nothing / Weak Night
Pendles - Sloppy
Cloke & Rocca - Outplayed
Didak - Too Quiet
Ruckmen - Need i say more

50/50
Maxwell - Set an example with his body, just needs a brain to match.

Not blaming our young brigade, they have been good all year, and they were good again tonight. they are simply a bit underdone..

Cheers.

Gee that's very tough.
Cloke was one of our best for sure and Maxwell was also up there.

You forgot O'Brien too; thought that was his best game for us tonight.

Agree with you on Didak, Rocca though.
Rocca was hopeless and Dids flashed in and out as did Rusling.

Best:
Cloke (8), O'Brien (7), Swan (7), Clement (7), Clarke (7), Maxwell (7)

The Rest:
Lockyer: Gallant (6)
Bucks: It maybe time Bucks; bow out whilst you are still on top (6)
Heath: Solid performance (6)
O'Bree: Never stops trying (5)
Burns: he wouldn't be happy with this game I don't think (5)
Didak: not one of his better games (5)
Medhurst: OK without being a real influence (5)
Wakelin: Did his job by and large (5)
Thomas: never disgraced; chased and tackled; tired (5)
Davis: good early but then went missing (5)

Out of sorts:
Pendlebury: not up to his usual standard; turned the ball over and was quiet in the first half; tired (4)
Rusling: Little influence; a couple of fine marks though (4)
Goldsack: won't be happy with his game tonight; was killed early but fought back to be a solid performer (4)

Duds:
Richards: tried hard but is not up to it (3)
Bryan:Hopeless (2)
Rocca: Hopeless (1) especially disappointing as a club leader.

O'Bree was poor and Lockyer thrashed by Ablett, no where near him for that last goal. Bryan was/is much better than Richards

I need to get away from footy, that is the hardest defeat i have ever seen. I can't comment on the game as i am too disappointed but all I'd like to say is Maxy, if you dont captain Collingwood next year there is something wrong at the club, you are an absolute Gun! Collingwood through and through and no matter how many hits you take you get back up and give it again. That tackle is the single greatest highlight for me this year, it irked of passion and was most def the 1%er of the year. If only you could share your bravery and heart with so many others.

And please i don't want to hear excuses. For 8 years now we haven't had a decent ruckman, how many times to we have to be in this situation before we realise we won't win a flag without one. Fraser or No Fraser ir meant one of those two would've had to play. Its not working and must be fixed.

Was a great effort but we didn't win when we could have.

Next year isn't a promise of success - a young group can give great hope but opportunities to play in a Grand Final are few are far between.

I hope the hard work starts all over again now - the playing group is good enough to go all the way in the future but there are no guarantees. Just think of the teams that can/will improve next year - that is what we have to mindful of.
I think therefore I think - I think

Great effort by the boys, I honestly didnt think we would win but to get so close and go down left me gutted...* i almost cried

We should have a very promising future though and i pray to god we get what we all want so badly ...a flag and a ruckman

I dnt usually bag out players but Guy Richards , you are damn disgrace man, it was laughable watching him last nite and really shows why we need a decent ruck, Bryan not much better but least he doesnt get tossed round like a ragdoll..

Im proud to be a pie man today though still feel gutted...

Hopefully next year

Disagree on Clement I would only give him a 5 to many poor decisions, played well on the one on one contests, but constantly kicked the ball to Ottens and richards and we know who was going to win that contest.
Also Goldy was very unlucky early but came back and played some good football

I am absolutely gutted and proud at the same time. They were clearly the best side on the night and we just kept on coming and could have pinched it.

Really, would Josh have made the goal difference?

What is with heath Shaw's kicking. Was very poor tonight, turned it over on a number of occassions.

Clarke & Cloke were sensational. Thought that the rest contributed. Only the rucks and Rocca gave us nothing.

Bryan needs more awareness and the shot at goal in Q3 that was smothered shows that he needs more urgency in his game. He aint playing suburban footy.

Still plenty to look forward to in the coming years-but need a quality ruck to help Josh.

Dont mean to critiscise people but sometimes I wonder how much we look at what is going on in a football game.

For instance, whilst I agree Rocca had a poor night, he was not the reason we lost. The reason we lost was because our mids butchered the ball thru the middle of the ground and it resulted in turnovers or kicks that just did not hit targets.

We only had something like 38 inside 50's for the game. For our fwds and backs to have kept us in the game for so long on that score alone is an amazing effort. Our mids were terrible.

Sorry to say it but;
Burns and OBree were quiet and not really all that damaging
Pendles first half was ordinary
Lockyer was hurt as much the other way as he got us going fwd
Thomas does not get enough ball - that will come
Dids and Davis are learnign to be mids and that will come but they were outclassed last night.
Swan was the only mid who really caused them worry.

All in all a great effort but Rocca bashing is a bit off when you dont look at what happened around him. Was amazed MM did not try him at CHF or in the Ruck.

Said to my brother at 3/4 time that Rocca needed 10 minutes in the ruck, but did not happen - do not know why he wasn't given a bit of a run.

Generally agree Neil, except you've grossly undervalued Medhurst. He was our best forward after Cloke, and came close to winning us the game with timely and inspirational goals and assists. Also, Wakes dominated Mooney who was sent to the bench for a fair while.

I was gutted at the end - I couldn't believe we'd got so close and no cigar! I agree with the many - we need to get rid of Richards and find a decent ruckman. Forget about Judd - WCE will want a small crumbing forward, and I suspect they will ask for no lesser than Davis or Didak in return - and the Pies would be lunatics to agree to a swap like that.
I thought Leon was great last night, as was Swan, Lockyer, Cloke and Didak in the third. But our best on ground for his desperation and tackling would have to be Maxwell.
I still wonder why Rocca didn't get a spell in the ruck when he was getting cut up by Scarlett (as usual). I would have liked to have seen Ottens push Pebbles around! Sometimes what Mick doesn't do confounds me.
Still we have some great young talent and plenty of promise for the future. Bring on '08!
