He was certainly on, and i recall the commentators saying that he had only found the footy once in the 4th, with about 5 mins to goJohnson#26 wrote:Wasn't he benched? I think (probably wrong!) I heard Chrisso/Lane/Blight/Christi say that he was off the ground in the final quarter.I'd love to know who kept a rampaging Simpson quiet in the last.
If he was on, whoever had him did a sterling job.

My Player by player analysis:
Scott Burns: Was at his brilliant best. Hard as nails, it was burns of old, steps to the plate when the footy gets hot.
James Clement: Was supurb, put him down for all australian once again.
Travis Cloke: Was servicable, led all day. Cant expect him to dominate games just yet at the age of 19, however showed that he can take a contested mark and has a footy brain.
Leon Davis: Was very quite, first game back after a bad ankle injury. Will need to step up against the Eagles.
Josh Fraser: Wasnt himself until the last term. Very quite by his standards.
Ben Johnson: Didnt find the pill as much as he would have liked. Pretty quiet.
Paul Licuria: Was decent, in and under as usual and ran hard.
Tarkyn Lockyer: Brilliant last quarter and was out to prove a point to get us back in the game.
Ryan Lonie: Kept Daniel Wells quiet all day however wasnt as damaging as he should be.
Nick Maxwell: Did touch the ball that much but gave 100% and did the 1%ers. Good mark and goal. Showed he can step up to the plant when required.
Paul Medhurst: Went missing a bit but was a result of the ball not going inside 50 often. Was good in the last term.
Shane O'Bree: Got injured mid way through the game. Didnt find it much.
Harry O'Brien: Was solid all day and loved his dash off the half back. Wasnt afraid to put his head over the ball and really made the opposition think twice about charging at him.
Scott Pendlebury: Class, silk and had a cool head. Got a good footy brain. 18 touches for the game and spent a fair bit of it on the pine. Big things from this kid are to come. Has to be odds on for the rising star.
Simon Prestigiacomo: Was his usual self, only had the one goal kicked on him and demonstrated what type of player he is for the team on the wing against Leigh Brown.
Guy Richards: Ruckwork wasnt the best and he was lost around the ground. Needs to work on finding the footy when no rucking and plugging up holes.
Anthony Rocca: Did all he could, marked really well on the lead, smashed packs like a bowling ball and gave off two or three goals. Good performance, all he needs to do is find the big sticks.
Heath Shaw: His only blunder was at times getting sloppy when tackling or in a marking contest giving away free kicks (5 of them) other than that, he was brilliant, 27 touches.
Rhyce Shaw: didnt get the ball much, layed plenty of sheppards, one time when Dale ran down the wing with the ball he layed four or five of them.
Dane Swan: was a little quiet and didnt find it as much as he was last year, but that was the case as with all the midfielders.
Dale Thomas: forget the talk about having a flop after his first season. This kid is the real deal and was brilliant in the last term. Was one of the blokes that turned the game around for us.
Shane Wakelin: did his job. Same as Prestigiacomo.

I wish i could mix it AFL players on the drink - I wouldn't get past the 45th shout!!Neil Appleby wrote:Looks like Johnno has The Lonestar as his drinking buddy now!uuuuu..... The LoneSTAR wrote: Johnson: Who is hitting the town with now that Taz is gone??
Maxwell: Did some nice things as well as giving he's usual 100%
performance!
Until the last quarter Maxi was embarrassing; he had a few mates in Josh, Davis and Lonie.
Meantime, i was referring to a couple of grabs, the goal & his share of all heart 1%'ers! Without sounding too harsh he was pathetic last year - So i was pleased to see him at least 'do some nice things' first up for 2007! But yes, he also has some poor passages,.. & made wrong decisions as well!
Davis will need a couple of weeks to get match fit!! Don't be too critical of Josh - It's rusty-round 1!! Lonie was the far & away the most disappointing IMHO!
Tell me about your likes and dislikes? Do you prefer books or TV? Tell me more about your it. Not many people express themselves that way. How do you usually introduce yourself? The ALICE chat robot can follow many things, like our discussion about eighteen touches for the game and spent a fair bit of it on the pine. But I did not get that. ""? Dale Thomas forget the talk about having a flop after his first season? Are you free?ad4eva wrote:My Player by player analysis:

Welcome Andy. The Collingwood "family" both far and wide can read your comments. Its a great site, always with pretty balanced arguments. We were indeed a tad lucky to get over the line on Saturday, but you make your own luck and we stormed home in the last qtr to kick 7 goals and more importantly, show that we never say die and that the future looks pretty rosey. Wait til we get a few other players back and Im fairly confident we will play finals again this year.
Enjoy yourself. Its later than you think!

Normally, in years past when challenged by a bunch of Palookas (no hopers) this team would fall in a heap and lose the unloseable game.
Examples being - Richmond and Essendon last year, Footscray in 2002, Fitzroy at Victoria Park in 1981.
Crap teams always seem to play their one blinder for the year against the Magpies.
If you lose to a battler, you must beat one of the big boys to catch up.
While this win is not amongst the pantheon of great Magpie wins, it nevertheless stopped that trend for the time being. It is a smack in the eye for the professional battlers - watch out Richmond and Footscray!
