Leon played almost exclusively in the middle tonight and did very well. Got into the action in the middle with tackles/bumps and won the contested ball quite a few times. His hard ball get stats would have been pretty good I would have thought. Impressive performance.
Stretch didnt do a great deal around the ground but there were a few simply sublime tap outs. He doesnt win every tap but Richards has the ability to put it down a teammates throat when he does win it ... thats why the club has persisted with him.
Bryan did fairly well around the ground, and took a couple of strong grabs when he played up forward (MM was resting the ruckmen up forward frequently). Unfortunately, his kicking let him down which included missing a couple of fairly simple goals.
A couple of standout plays:
1. As mentioned, Pendles spins, balks, evades a couple of tacklers, dummies handleball, and then straightens up, steadies for a couple of steps, and drills it over the hoals umpires head.
2. Cox being led to the ball by his oppenent and the delivery to the leading forward is almost perfect. Cox however closes in the last couple of steps and gets a fist in first. The punch sends the ball forward in an arc and Cox continues to run flat out after the punch and actually marks the ball. He play on without breaking stride, straightens up and while still flat out delivers a perfect 40m pass.

jonesy86 wrote:yeah leon was good in the midfield, in the forward line so often he just runs through packs and comes out the other side with the ball.....he didn't quite do that today, but he showed that he can read the play well, get a fair bit of the ball and use it quite wellpietillidie wrote: A question for those who saw the game:
Leon is great at using his body in the forward line, but has struggled in the hurly burly of midfield stoppages in the past. Has he improved in that regard? I notice he has bulked up, and I was hoping that would enable him to develop his man-on-man defensive skills. I also note Brad Scott complimented his tackling in the first praccy too.
Cheers Jonesy86 and Lone Ranger, happy to hear that because some of the midfield improvement we need will have to come from Leon.Lone Ranger wrote:Leon played almost exclusively in the middle tonight and did very well. Mate of mine barracks for the scum and he was telling me that he reckons Bryan can kick the ball further then the Rocca boys anyone at the game see an evidence of this? He reckons he was a good player but doesn't look after himself but he liked him as a player and is still upset he went and we have him! He could be a big bonus this year especially if Richards stands up and frees Fraser to go forward.

This club has never recruited better, well done to MM and all the staff at the club...Its a marvellous feeling knowing that our future is sound and we're probably better off than any other club at present, its such a joy watching these kids that will soon within time become collingwood heroes and legends and i mean that seriously i have never been this excited about our young blokes.
The joy is to watch them grow to support them and to encourage and i'll tell ya something else a premiership isnt that far away.
Good times ahead folks
