last nights game was like going on a first date, not sure how its going to go but by the end of the night you want another go at it.
with the following players out...
* Clement
* Rocca
* Buckley
* Fraser
* O'Bree
* Didak
* Licuria
* Swan
* Lockyer
* Holland
* Presti
if we lost by 40 points that would be great effort considering north was at full strength bar archer. I hope mick plays the kids again for the next 3 weeks. Then picks our best side for the last practise match. Some of the kids look ok a lot of left footers. Ruck could be a worry but to harsh to judge after one game.
Did we underestimate tarrants hard leading accross half foward as we seem to miss a target up foward where as roos had thompson but he was ineffective but provided a target and caused crumbs for the 2 north crummers.
Overall there were positives Mick would be happy, who do we play next week

Lazza,

My apologies for the over reaction concerning your comments, I certainly hate it when people paint who I am in the wrong light and context. I myself am not the Denial ridden, optimist, I have certainly had my rants in the past concerning Collingwood's prospects, but I just have to say that even anyone in the media questioning fitness or the preparation of Collingwood based upon the performance last night has it seriously wrong. We were missing 11 senior players and North had their whole senior side playing....we had 10 New players, one of which picked up an aussie rules ball for the first time last year! the fact that we stayed within 10 goals of North last night is a great prospect.....The side lacked direction in the first half, they suffered heavily from stage fright...In the Second half they showed alot of determination, guts and a little bit of pride and things started to improve greatly.

As I said I am certainly not the Rosey Glassed optimist you described and I apologise for the outburst against you.....We support our teams in different ways and I respect that....I just hope you will not write off celebrating that Flag in 2007 based upon Friday Night, because believe me mate, the season proper will show a completely different storey!

Cheers

Burnsy - what a man, what a footballer, heart & courage bigger than the MCG!
Leon - great to see ya back
Nick - this bloke has leadership qualities
Heater - luv ya work
Wakes - ya minds still got it but will the body hold out?
Daisy - needs to start on the ground to get into it
Penders - good improvement, hope to see more of you
Danny Nicholls - WHY WASN'T THIS GUY ELEVATED !?!?
Dick - shows lot's of promise, fast and like his skills
Egan - Dick to replace
Lonie - see ya in Willy's reserves or in the MPNFL, you can kick a ball but need hear and courage to make an AFL footballer.
Johnno - you're a senior player, getting lots of the ball, pleeze improve your disposal................... PLEEZE!!!!!!!
Cooky - the boy from the Bud, great effort
Ruz - with better delivery from the mid-field can be great, maybe go for a run up the wing, use that pace
Trav - looking good pal
Medders - didn't like you at Freo but can't wait to see you and Leon/Dids crumb'n those balls and kick'n goals for the Pies!!

From a supporters perspective it was good to see who is up and coming. Some of the young fella's should make the supporters excited; just give them a year or two playing against more mature men at a faster pace than under 18's, get used to playing together as a team and they'll be right.

Would luv to have seen Marty Clarke !!!

No worries NP. I just hope you and the others are right about the team starting to hit some form and win once the missing players are back.
I'm NOT a pessimist by nature, I try to assess reality. This time last year I backed the 'pies to make the top six confidently and won a few bets along the way. All I can say is right or wrong, I definitely will not be making such a bet this year. I just don't get the same vibe about this team.
I just sat through a complete recorded replay of last night's game......I wont say anymore but I fervently hope and pray that the posters here are dead set right about the missing players making the huge difference.
I promise to stay totally positive about Collingwood.....!! At least I'll try hard to.... :lol:

Joffa dude,

Any wonder you are such a bloody legend :P You are inspiring and have helped me reconsider my negative views on this season. It was just that I was sad when we got done last week by Sydney but I was bitterly disappointed losing to my bloody pick as this year's wooden spooner North by 50 bloody points :cry: I was honest in my comments. I felt we were hopeless.
But I do realise that when at full strength and in form, we can beat anyone out there :!:
Let the season proper begin.... 8)

I wasnt dissapointed. I tipped us to lose by 60, we only lost by 51. Thats like a 9 point win to me. Impressed by PEndlebury and reckon Isles and Davies could push for selection this year. Ben JOhnson was the real shining light for me and looks ready to be played in the midfield this year.

We did not take this game seriously but there were some good signs in the second half
There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

Johnson#26 wrote:Player Review, NAB Cup Round One 2007 vs Kangaroos:

Leon Davis: 4/10 - Again flashed in and out of play without ever starring or looking as if he was going to play an overly prominent role.

Sean Rusling: 2/10 - Following an awful start, Rusling worked his way into the match as the game wore on, his only highlight the outbodying of Michael Firrito in the goal square. Will need to improve, and will, as time goes on. Laidley's match up of Firrito was clever coaching.

Ryan Lonie: 4/10 - Nothing special from Lonie, who continues to frustrate. Although he finds enough of the ball, he is not as damaging and creative with it as his highlights reel show he can be. Needs to attack the ball harder, break the lines and kick longer. A decisive season.
Paul Medhurst: 5/10 - Certainly not the worst in his first outing in the Black and White. A feature early, with his attack on the ball, grunt and willingness to work hard for his possessions. Heartening signs, and not what I expected when the news was released when he was part of the Tarrant/pick eight (Ben Reid) deal.

Scott Pendlebury: 7/10 - Classy and slick are two words we will use often for Pendlebury as the years roll on. Composed in heavy traffic, good clean hands and a precise left boot were all on show last night. Certainly in for a big 2007.
Dale Thomas: 4/10 - On and off the bench all night, and found more of the ball in the second half.

Shane Wakelin: 6/10 - Held Thompson to only the one major and was cool in a crisis, particuarly early on, looking to have lost no pace or guile over the summer. On that evidence, he will still be a key player throughout the year, particuarly with Prestigiacomo and Clement to return.

Chris Egan: 3.5/10 - Danced in and out of the game without ever truly stamping his authority on it. Must become a key player if we are to go anywhere this year.

Nathan Brown: 2/10 - Not the greatest of starts, but a start nonetheless. Turned the ball over on occasions, but his lack of efficiency by foot should at this stage be put down to inexperience. Marked well on occasions and showed a sign of a football brain in the third term with a clever knock on in a marking contest on the wing.

Scott Burns: 6.5/10 - One of the best for the Pies all night through the midfield, and was the lone experienced solider in there.

Ben Davies: 2/10 - Hardly sighted, save for a few touches both early and late.

Guy Richards: 3/10 - (Without having the statistics in front of me) Probably broke even in the ruck contests but was well beaten by David Hale and Hamish McIntosh around the ground. Needs to have more of an influence in general play.

Rhyce Shaw: 6/10 - Tried his heart out off halfback but still commits sloppy errors, either due to 'over-eagerness' or just poor luck. Still worked hard and was far from the worst.

Ben Johnson(c): 7.5/10 - His hard running from defence was excellent and his footskills continually on the improve. Love the idea of employing him as skipper, too.

Nick Maxwell: 7/10 - A star early, and played his role extremely well. Never frightened and always backed his judgement. Hopefully the hard yards of the past four years on the list are set to payoff this season.

Ryan Cook: 3/10 - Showed flashes of ability at half forward, and featured in plenty of play early on.

Harry O'Brien: 1/10 - Dashed from defence in the first term with great regularity (edge of your seat stuff) before injuring his ribs via a knock from Hale in a marking contest.

Travis Cloke: 6/10 - Very impressed with his work. Presented well against the odds, and carried the mantle as number one forward with aplomb. Have no doubts that he will enjoy an excellent 2007.

Brad Dick: 3/10 - Showed snippets of class, particuarly late. Will need to add muscle to his frame.

Alan Toovey: 2.5/10 - Not much to write home about. Was in and around the ball often (particuarly early) but was never able to win enough of it.

Sam Iles: 2/10 - Not overly prominent.

Heath Shaw: 7.5/10 - A massive game from Shaw Jnr. Looked a class above in the backline and when pushing up the field, and will again no doubt enjoy a stellar 2007. Potential captain in the making.

Chris Bryan: 3.5/10 - Showed a bit around the ground on occasions but never really stood out as a feature.

Daniel Nicholls: 4/10 - Quite impressed with his efforts. Showed a willingness to compete despite his lack of size, has a neat left foot and a tad of agression. Would love to give him a few more chances at senior level.
lonie - you are being very very bias here johno he would be lucky to have got a 2/10 imo.

Pendles should of got 8/10 he was brilliant.

Richards another who should of got about a 3/10 he was smashed in the ruck not just around the ground.
