I could hear them on Telly mate and had a real chuckle as it was evident the pies had far more support than the Pauperoos infact the amount of support last night for the pies would have imbarrassed the North Melbourne football club!Northern Pie wrote:Joffa you would have been proud to see the army in full force mate, it was awesome, and where we were sitting (with the QLD magpies) well the passion right to the end was awesome (there were 2 baggers amongst the group like lazza et al, but they were promptly shut up by me and plenty others....lol) Can't wait for the GABBA!!!....hopefully my voice will have recovered by then!

North's SUPERIOR fitness?? WTF have Collingwood being doing in Arizona? Doing "laps" of the main drag in their luxury bus? What training has been happening at Lexus Centre? How can Collingwood lack fitness to a pissy little team like North just 4 weeks before the main season? And posters here make light of it??

Eddie Smith sure does get around doesn't he?
A certain "Eddie from Ringwood" posted on a certain Weatherzone forum Friday afternoon at 16.53 about the weather at the time, and the fires in the Dandenongs yesterday afternoon (which he was also apparently in proximity to).
Wow...quite the jetsetter!
My take on last night btw - shithouse. Hope there's plenty of improvement, because there were few shining lights and not many surprises. Suspect recent travel took the edge of us (Eddie would know about the effects of travel I suspect).

The highlight for north was the form of their young kids but again they had stronger bodies to create the contests for them. Wont be nearly as easy when the real stuff gets going. Also, they and Port would be the sharpest sides going at the moment.
I thnk MM will look at last night and say my 10 players to come back will give them a run for their money.
After last night the rd 1 side looks like
B T.Lockyer, S.Prestigiacomo, S.Wakelin
HB H.Shaw, J.Clement, N.Maxwell
C R.Shaw D.Swan D.Thomas
HF J.Fraser T.Cloke N.Buckley
F L.Davis A.Rocca P.Medhurst
Foll C.Bryan S.OBree
Rov B.Johnson
Int S.Pendlebury, S.Burns, P.Licuria, C.Egan
Close: S.Rusling, R.Lonie, S.Iles, B.Dick

Lazza, you're all right, mate. I read the article you referred to but I also came across a report somewhere last night which did a similar take on the fitness angle but added that North had been in full training for four months because they were making a massive effort to win the pre-season cup.
I'm getting a bit sick of reading all this, "you're only a true supporter if you only say positive things about Collingwood", too. It's bullshit, but there's no need to take any notice of it, mate. I've said my bit about the match and I've taken some positive things out of it and there are some things that I'm not happy about, either.
You're entitled to your opinion, lazza, and you should keep on saying it. People who think we should say only positive things aren't going to stop me saying what I think and they shouldn't stop you, either.

Not at all concerned by that effort and about to write off our whole season. Everyone has already stated the obvious about them playing their best side and us playing kids.
All the NAB cup should be for as far as we're concerned is a chance to give the kids a go in the Collingwood jumper and a chance for us as supporters to see what they've got.
It was also a great chance to catch up with a few people at Lexus.

Put away your razor blades fellas. We'll be fine. Early days.
Actually Im surprised I havnt heard anyone calling for Micks head yet. Or have I just missed it.

Player Review, NAB Cup Round One 2007 vs Kangaroos:
Leon Davis: 4/10 - Again flashed in and out of play without ever starring or looking as if he was going to play an overly prominent role.
Sean Rusling: 2/10 - Following an awful start, Rusling worked his way into the match as the game wore on, his only highlight the outbodying of Michael Firrito in the goal square. Will need to improve, and will, as time goes on. Laidley's match up of Firrito was clever coaching.
Ryan Lonie: 4/10 - Nothing special from Lonie, who continues to frustrate. Although he finds enough of the ball, he is not as damaging and creative with it as his highlights reel show he can be. Needs to attack the ball harder, break the lines and kick longer. A decisive season.
Paul Medhurst: 5/10 - Certainly not the worst in his first outing in the Black and White. A feature early, with his attack on the ball, grunt and willingness to work hard for his possessions. Heartening signs, and not what I expected when the news was released when he was part of the Tarrant/pick eight (Ben Reid) deal.
Scott Pendlebury: 7/10 - Classy and slick are two words we will use often for Pendlebury as the years roll on. Composed in heavy traffic, good clean hands and a precise left boot were all on show last night. Certainly in for a big 2007.
Dale Thomas: 4/10 - On and off the bench all night, and found more of the ball in the second half.
Shane Wakelin: 6/10 - Held Thompson to only the one major and was cool in a crisis, particuarly early on, looking to have lost no pace or guile over the summer. On that evidence, he will still be a key player throughout the year, particuarly with Prestigiacomo and Clement to return.
Chris Egan: 3.5/10 - Danced in and out of the game without ever truly stamping his authority on it. Must become a key player if we are to go anywhere this year.
Nathan Brown: 2/10 - Not the greatest of starts, but a start nonetheless. Turned the ball over on occasions, but his lack of efficiency by foot should at this stage be put down to inexperience. Marked well on occasions and showed a sign of a football brain in the third term with a clever knock on in a marking contest on the wing.
Scott Burns: 6.5/10 - One of the best for the Pies all night through the midfield, and was the lone experienced solider in there.
Ben Davies: 2/10 - Hardly sighted, save for a few touches both early and late.
Guy Richards: 3/10 - (Without having the statistics in front of me) Probably broke even in the ruck contests but was well beaten by David Hale and Hamish McIntosh around the ground. Needs to have more of an influence in general play.
Rhyce Shaw: 6/10 - Tried his heart out off halfback but still commits sloppy errors, either due to 'over-eagerness' or just poor luck. Still worked hard and was far from the worst.
Ben Johnson(c): 7.5/10 - His hard running from defence was excellent and his footskills continually on the improve. Love the idea of employing him as skipper, too.
Nick Maxwell: 7/10 - A star early, and played his role extremely well. Never frightened and always backed his judgement. Hopefully the hard yards of the past four years on the list are set to payoff this season.
Ryan Cook: 3/10 - Showed flashes of ability at half forward, and featured in plenty of play early on.
Harry O'Brien: 1/10 - Dashed from defence in the first term with great regularity (edge of your seat stuff) before injuring his ribs via a knock from Hale in a marking contest.
Travis Cloke: 6/10 - Very impressed with his work. Presented well against the odds, and carried the mantle as number one forward with aplomb. Have no doubts that he will enjoy an excellent 2007.
Brad Dick: 3/10 - Showed snippets of class, particuarly late. Will need to add muscle to his frame.
Alan Toovey: 2.5/10 - Not much to write home about. Was in and around the ball often (particuarly early) but was never able to win enough of it.
Sam Iles: 2/10 - Not overly prominent.
Heath Shaw: 7.5/10 - A massive game from Shaw Jnr. Looked a class above in the backline and when pushing up the field, and will again no doubt enjoy a stellar 2007. Potential captain in the making.
Chris Bryan: 3.5/10 - Showed a bit around the ground on occasions but never really stood out as a feature.
Daniel Nicholls: 4/10 - Quite impressed with his efforts. Showed a willingness to compete despite his lack of size, has a neat left foot and a tad of agression. Would love to give him a few more chances at senior level.

It's not different opinions that get under my skin Lazza, just stupid and baseless ones. If you'd been following the news in the off-season you would know that North started hard training well before us because their coaching staff were concerned that last year they started off well behind other teams in terms of fitness. Their entire program has been focussed on being up and running early. This being the case you would expect the Pies to be well behind them as far as building a good fitness base - our focus is on the season proper, not theis NAB cup crap. I'm pretty confident that our fitness staff know what they're doing a bit than unqualified armchair critics like you and me.Lazza wrote:Northern Pie wrote:LAZZA you are definately on your Pat Malone mate...Collingwood "Supporters" like yourself make me sick...Lazza wrote:We are all happy little vegemites here aren't we? If you want to be a realist, how about acknowledging that 11 senior players were missing last night against a near full strength Roos - men against boys (shit I can't understand how we got beat ) and that we were playing against a side that is more advanced in its preparation.

You can't rest your senior players, play the kids and still expect to win. I'm staggered by the negativity in so many of these posts. I'll take 5 preseason losses just to see some real talent in a young up and coming player. If the accounts about Pendlebury are right, we should be celebrating last night's game.

Thanks Cannibal, I hear you mate. I will ignore them and continue to state my views on this forum. I have posted hundreds of posts that were totally positive of the 'pies so its not like that I have a long history or form of being only negative all the time or being a doomsayer But I need to be really honest that last night's debacle, total lack of a committed effort and the same old turn overs, miskicks, handballs to the opposition and bloody stupid short passing when a thimping long kick would have far more benefitial, pissed me off big time. If these are "baseless" comments as one poster has said, I must have watched Nar Nar Goon seconds play West Coast and missed the game from Carrara......Cannibal wrote:Lazza, you're all right, mate. The 'baseless' comment refers to your criticism of the respective fitness levels of each side Lazza. If you want to have a crack at the side by all means go for it, but at least back it up with something. As for the turnovers, miskicks etc what did you expect from a side where about 16 out of 24 have played less than 30 games compared to North having pretty much their best side in?Lazza wrote:Thanks Cannibal, I hear you mate. It's not about difference of opinion it's the fact lazza you are predicting doom and gloom because of one pointless practise match. As has been said, it's pointless negativity like that which shits people.
I agree cannibal not being positive 100% of the time doesn't mean a thing in regards to being a true supporter, but Lazza's just gone nuts over something hardly important.
Laz have you cared to look at the list of players missing?
