Nick Daicos - Whisper

Post by JLC »

Congratulations Image to Peter Daicos and Colleen on the birth of Nicholas Stanley Daicos who is now the younger brother of Madeline and Joshua.

Thats both half forward flanks we have covered now....lol

I think Monkhorst has ensured our ruck department for the next decade as he has four or five sons who surely must be in their teenage years by now.

Not since Travis Cloke has there been this much anticipation about a youngster coming to our club. I just hope he doesn't get crushed by the weight of unrealistic expectations and is given time to find his feet at AFL level. He shouldn't be expected to be the Messiah

Fair call. The kid hasn’t even played TAC U18s yet.
I think the hype was fairly realistic until Rendell came out and declared him as good as a kid he had seen. It was a bizarre statement because Nick played alongside Rowell at Carey Grammar and Rowell was streets ahead of him, albeit Daicos is obviously a bit younger. In terms of talent ( not size ) Rowell was virtually as good as a 16 year old as he is now.
The two best kids I have seen ( I can only relate to Vic metro ) were Judd and Rowell. If Nick is half as good as a junior as those two were, then we still have a very good player on our list for a number of years to come.

Agree the unrealistic expectations being placed on a kid who is yet to agree to be a F/S is unfair. No-one should be in that position

The Collingwood Trust wasn't born yesterday. Nick can be mentored internally plus he has his brother there.
Not to mention externally, that player who made the no.35 famous. :D
Think MAGPIES...winning the Flag this year!

I agree, very very unfair on the young fella. But this is modern football media...I think kids are better equipped these days to handle it. It does not make it right.

Also don't expect the noise to get any lower as the season progresses. Especially if Collingwood has a poor season.

I will cry when I see another Daicos run out in number 35... So will most of you.

There will be expectations. He will have to cope.

LeBron James coped reasonably well with high expectations. I'm sure Nick will too. if he's any good, the expectations he places on himself will be greater than any expectations the outside world can place on him.
