Geelong would be lucky to have 10 VFL listed players on their list, then again Williamstown barely had 12 available Pies players as the Pies were resting people for some reason, dont know why they rest players in elimination matches
Its basically about protecting the stand alone clubs and also stopping teams from filling up on AFL players in finals especially clubs who's AFL affiliate had a poor season could really fill their VFL team up strongly late in the year
Although they probably shouldnt be restricted when playing Geelong its probably easier for the VFL to do it this way

Oh my gosh, may we agree. Palming into the open corridor for opposition goals or take aways; almost no around the ground impact against the Geelong talls (yeah well a couple of tackles perhaps...). If MM said he was disappointed last week with Richo, he can echo that statement in trumps today. Pity we lost back talls in selection so that Meyer had to go back there instead of taking the ruck and let Richards go off to do what he does so well elsewhere....um.eddiesmith wrote:Willy about to lose, 20 points down 23 mins into the last qtr
Richards has actually been worse than last week
Still, I guess Lawry had a dirty talls day out too.
In the rookies' race. Toovey and Nicholls, I hope, are going nowhere else. Both seemed able to take big-time pressure but may need another year to hone up? Tooves' fast closing and lots of run. Nicholls, smaller than even Lockyer (?) but looked tougher than half of CFC and had long flat deliveries onto forwards' chests. This post-Bucks is something we could do with. Not sure re Cox and will leave to others to assess - did well to play key back today when that's not his bag; got hurt; wasn't disgraced on NAblett; but if Burns don't go this year, then we may need either to promote two rookies up or one up and let one go, as we need to fit on a budding ruck rookie (I suspect) as well as the new Clarke Irish Eyes Are Smiling.
Of others on CFC list today, I felt Stanley was still a bit strangely at sea (yes, goal, good cameos, but also ball chasing bloopers - do we not have his best possie determined yet?). Anthony today had to beat AFL-level opponents. Again great cameos, bravery, winning in first half but beaten in the second. No drama as still overall a great contributor, but probably I had him ear-marked to replace Wakelin one year too early = ie next year (and gosh Wakes seemingly took till his late 40s to develop his definitive style as well). On this JA, I believe, may get a third-tall defensive role experience somewhere next year in CFC, but needs to keep bulking up in general and learn the dirt from wakes for one more year to go beyond that to KPB.
Ryan Cook, again a bit cameo king. Not sure what is happening there rght now, except to re-believe seeing him in early Willi games where he seemed a definite player for the future. Time?
Rowe? Davies? Yakka? - here is the rub. All playing to impress, win, stay on lists. I have not seen the stats, bests etc yet, but for myself none of them did enough to impact the outcome of a VFL finals game for three borderline CFC players. Of the three perhaps Yakka? Davies had lots but in the last half it went out on the full, over the contest, into their hands, etc, too much. Suspecting at this stage that Davies has the vision but not the execution, and Yakka has the better execution but not the same vision? Rowe could be anything left or right foot and with vision- terrific forward spot ups today- but right now, neither we nor the opposition know which Rowe will turn up or for how long. I hear OP , but who knows?
