hahahahahahahahahahhahaha funniest post of the year to date.. how you can even mention johnno to be dropped proves that you know absolutely nothing about AFL Football..Nutmeg wrote:It's taken me until today to get over that performance........OH MY JOCK!!
When Rocca missed that one in the 2nd qtr (that would've put us 39 pts up I think) I thought "no biggie, we're five and a half goals up anyway"
AAARRRGHHH
Interesting to note that everyone's been saying how good Jonno was - personally, I'd get rid of him now. How many times did his kicks not come off? How often did he try to take the man on and stuff it up? Burgoyne was HIS man and he absolutely KILLED us.
Bye bye taz....it's been a frustrating relationship, but we've got Rus now. It'd be nice if Egan would stop getting in his way though!
I concur with everyone here - Heath Shaw was fantastic. Occasionally his disposal isn't brilliant, but I love the way if he stuffs up, he turns around and fights to make up for it (that bulls*&t free kick that resulted in a goal for the Pooves, Shaw kicked the next one on the run from outside 50).
Burnsy owes us all some heart medication - my brother didn't appreciate the beating his couch took from me when Burns missed.
not pretty, but I love rippin their hearts out in the last 30 seconds......

nutmeg, he had 18 effective kicks out of 22, so that's four times his kicks did not come off, i'm not sure how many were clangers either. he "killed" port as much as burgoyne "killed" us. i don't think it's in BJ's character as a football player to play a negating role and don 't think it would work on someone like burgoyne, i think that MM and choco were happy to see what the boys would do - i think BJ's efforts overall probably kept us in it, and "won" us the match as much as anyone else.

Johnno did have 7 clangers out of his 30 odd disposals, but I still had him in my best.
Brodie's disposal was also off. He has a tendency to lob the ball quite high and this was evident again on friday...but he's on the way to getting back to the form he had when we were flying...we will need him firing in September.
By contrast, 29 of Heath Shaw's 33 disposals were effective..that's an amazing stat. It's really in the elite class of effort for a game and I was astounded he was not in the votes in the HS, with a Champion ranking of 159.
Some other observations...
Had Rocca converted his 3 set shots, as he should have, it would have a completely different game (to be Captain Obvious), and everyone would be saying he is getting back into form. On that basis, it is at least encouraging. When everything was on the line, he did what he needed to do to help win the game, and that's good enough for me:D
Did anyone else notice Didak (Ice Man)'s shear determination, 1%s and second efforts? He was well held by Cassissi but was working bloody hard at every opportunity to put on defensive pressure and set up chances (eg that clever in-step volley while being tackled without the ball that was somehow ruled not being 15m). Some of his runs and chases were great. It shows his maturity is increasing every game.

One good thing about Travs game was his desperation and tackling - he can really make a tackle stick. Especially in the last quarter.
Personally I think Trav, being like his oldest brother, sometimes tries too hard. He will make it IMO, he has great presence on the field. He needs a good mentor to teach him about positioning on the field. But he is in his second year as a key forward and IMO is developing nicely and has the will to succeed.
On the Clokes after watching the replay I liked C1's game especially in the last quarter where his courage and hard running helped win the game.

Travis tends to like to play with a bit of a FREE RAIN. He tends to go for what he believes he can do ...ie Go for the long one, run on the boundary line...and slot it through like he did on SAT night...go for the big booming kick...take the ball out of defence ..run some yards and kick it long...
He is compromised between doing the team thing versus naturally whipping arse like he probably did against his opponents during his junior football years... Once he gets the balance and understands the coaches instructions V's his natural instinct he will be invaluable in years to come,..
At least he slotted the first...and that can often be the hardest.......
