Actually thought we were unlucky to lose.....great team effort for the most.
We need a big one from Pebs soon - not sure why he has been so down on form lately, but we need him to start firing come September.
Loved the boys down back last night, great game to Clemo, Shawry and Presti.
How handy would Leon have been last night??
We MUST get up again against Bombers on Friday night (after a big week off field and a big finals like game) - there is always a danger of coming out a bit flat.
Go Pies - just gotta keep winning!!!!

Nice post.georgejason wrote:12 wins and you play finals..we have had two years in the wilderness. Its time to return to where we rightly belong against our greatest foe. GO PIES!!
Although I've revised my thinking and suggest that 13 wins will be required this year as a minimum to make the finals.
Go Pies!

Clearences seems to be our major concern. We cannot keep letting teams win it out so easily from the centre. Having Licuria and Holland back helps...but teams with good forward lines such as St.Kilda or Melbourne will beat us easily if they keep clearing it out first. Wasnt a major problem last night, but we cannot keep allowing the opposition first usage. It means we have to start all our play from the backline with teams flooding back on us.
If you win the clearences, you get your forwards one out. Then Rocca and Tarrant will fire

There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

We were lucky to wind up as close as we did. If Adelaide had kicked reasonably straight and not missed several easy goals, they would have beat us by around 25 or 30 points.
Now before you all jump on me for not being positive about the pies, let's think about what Adelaide actually beat last night .... not Collingwood at its best, a long way off it ... A tired Adelaide beat a 15-man Collingwood side.
Outstanding games from: H.Shaw (best on ground), Prestigiacomo (2 votes), Swan (1 vote), Johnson, Clement. But we have come to expect these guys to star.
Solid to better than solid games from Fraser, O'Bree, Didak. We expect these guys to deliver and though they didn't knock our socks off, they were in and under all night (O'Bree), outnumbered but more than useful around the ground (Fraser), patchy but brilliant in bursts (Didak).
Played like we always thought they could: Lonie, Lockyer, Licuria. All three have under-delivered in recent times, especially Tarks. Great to see these three return to form! More of the same next week please! Put J.Cloke in this group too: great game from C1.
Down on the night, but tried hard and did some useful, often unrewarded stuff: Tarrant, Buckley, Holland.
Just learning the trade. Did OK. Thomas, Iles, Egan. Thomas, like Didak, was great in patches. He will only get better with time and experience. Iles looks the goods, but a hell of a match to debut in - needs to work on disposal skills under pressure, but a good first game and I like his pace and spirit. Egan did some very nice things, made some bad errors. He is improving fast but not there yet.
Where were these guys? Did I miss something? Burns, T.Cloke. Can't really remember seeing either of these fine players doing a whole lot. Is Burns getting to the end of a fine career?
Had a shocker: Maxwell, Rocca.
Of 22 players you can take about 6 names out as, overall, non-contributors or under-contributors. And we still pushed Adelaide close! Fantastic effort from the team overall, and especially the backline, the half-backs, and the midfielders running back to help out. Adelaide kept breaking down on the backline, and for that we can thank Presti, Heath Shaw, Clement, C1, and all the players who ran hard to help them out.
In the midfield, we broke about even. Against Adelaide, that's a great result. Why so good this week? Apart from the usual every-week contributors like O'Bree and Fraser, Licca was back and working hard; Lonie played the best game I can remember seeing from him, everyone put in. The midfield played with the desperation they were famous for in 02 and 03.
The forward line never looked like clicking all night. Pebbles got most of his kicks at full-back or in the ruck, Didak got his kicks (mostly) in the centre, Taz played up the field too and worked hard to make space, to run, and tackle, mostly without result. Tarks put his hand up, but for the most part, delivery from the centre or half forward was lacking in confidence, lacking in vision, and was telling evidence that the team might be able to defend with the best of them but had no idea where the next goal was coming from.
Without a big marking forward in form to give the side confidence, Collingwood's attack sucks, and the side wins games, when it wins, on backline strength and midfield desperation.
Conclusion: Adelaide was tired after a trip west and a flogging, hit by injury, but keen to atone for the loss last week. They dominated the game for 60% of the time, but kicked themselves out of it. Collingwood was switched on and desperate, but carried too many non-performers, especially in the forward half.
Outlook: Adelaide can be beaten, so can West Coast - and as Carlton (of all teams) showed this week, so can Melbourne. The pies still have big problems in attack, but are genuine contenders if they can get everyone firing and lift their confidence.
Next week: not an easy game! Essendon might be on the bottom, but the Essendon that lost all those games mid-season and the side that will run out next week are two very different sides. If we drop another game between now and the start of the finals series, it will be this one.

Agree with most of what you said. But not the above. Thought C3 was really solid. Lacked some finish, but was a rare tall that contributed. Some nice bumps and grabs etc. Thought Burns was fair. Didn't set the world on fire but contributed none the less.Tannin wrote: Where were these guys? Did I miss something? Burns, T.Cloke. I was really proud of the way the boys fought out the match last night. To get within 4 points of the supposedly best team in the competition on their home ground was an outstanding effort by anyone's standards. If we hadn't butchered so many easy shots at goal, especially Buckley and Fraser in the 2nd quarter,we would have certainly won the game.I also think that Leon Davis was a big loss for us last night. We seemed to lack crumbers on the forward line last night and his brilliance around the goals was sorely missed last night. Finally i just want to comment on a disgraceful report on the match that i read in the Herald Sun.The journalist,if you could call him that, said that Collingwood, like their two 'bad boy' players was full of fight but lacked class last night. Why the need for such a snide put down of a really outstanding team performance? Why does the media always have to be so condescending towards us?I'm sure they wouldn't talk about any other Victorian club like that.

Yes it was a brave effort but I am bittely disappointed we didn't win, we had our chances in the last and teh great sides get over the line in the close ones.
Love Daisy, the kid just has so much go in him, there is a few could take a look at the way this kid goes about it and use it as a benchmark.
Lones was indeed very good on Burton. J Clo was very good as was Presti in a dangerous match up. Clem was very good.
Heater and Swan have been the stars o the season and our now our top flight.
Great debut from Iles, run, grunt, ability to find the pill. Not too worried about the early disposal jitters the kid is a good kick.
Fraser was very brave, just battled on
Jonno got his head down and went about it, Taz is a worry though I reckon.
Licca showed a bit early as did Lockyer
Arggghhhhh, we should have snatched a win I'm gutted.

honourable loss but a win that got away. I was at the ground and it was like watching soccer/basketball aussie rules style. It was a game where both defences pushed back and were sweating for that elusive turnover and catch the other team on a fast break. Both teams played the cat and mouse style to a tee, if one side played 15 minutes they would have blown the game open and that would have been the winning margin.Maybe the greasy conditions helped it from being a blowout if it was there would be a huge uproar by fans and media saying it was the worst game ever but in the end the closeness of the scores made it a cliffhanger.

Injured an ankle when he got cleaned up behind play by the Ru. Spent some time on the bench getting treatment.labrooy wrote:According to most reports I have read Collingwood lost Jason Cloke to injury in the second quarter. Good effort but obviously not quite good enough - We had our chances,.... but they did as well!
Although Trav wasn't clean i thought his efforts were superb & was getting himself into good position [From what i could see on tv!].
Good to see C1 getting the job done i just wish he would stop those acting classes!!!!
Fraser was everywhere in certain patches of the game!.... love seeing the big fella get involved whenever possible!!
Thomas has the best footy smarts of a young kid that i can remember!!
Although Swanny got plenty of the ball, i think he kicked it to disadvantage too often for my liking - I wonder if he has instructions to boot it forward in every circumstance??.... still i like his game!
What do we do with Rocca!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Yeah, I know he went off with an injury. My comment refers to the statement in several articles that we lost C1 to injury in the 2nd Quarter. In fact he played for most of the game and played damn well. It was a comment on journalistic standards where they don't even check their facts before writing something that is obviously wrong.jackcass wrote:Injured an ankle when he got cleaned up behind play by the Ru. "If I didnt love the Pies so much and am so desperate for one flag I wouldn't go. The football is boring."
Same here.
Holland...WHY does he insist on playing on after a mark without any option, then puts himself under pressure and kicks an up-and-under to the oppositon? FRUSTRATING.
Buckley had his worst game that I can ever recall. Those who don't think so are kidding themselves. Also, 45m out dead in front, 2+ goals up, captain's goal...misses, they score 2 in a minute...Game Over.
Egan better put some urgency into his game. Near the end of the game there was a scramble on half forward for us (top of screen), it came to him along the ground, and what does he do? Sticks out ONE HAND, stuffs it up, and the Crows escape. Enough of this one hand half-arsed sh!t, Egan. Also, like in the Hawks game when he bounced the ball that didn't come back to him and fell behind him, when he stuffs up and loses the pill, he just keeps sauntering away like, "Bummer, I lost the ball..." How about you freakin' try to get it back instead of being resigned to the fact that you stuffed up.
Fraser obviously thought he was in the clear (still, he could've fallen on the ball and it should've gone through) - on the full? Bucks's great attempt for mark of the year, wins out vs two Crows...and snaps from 45m??? I've never seen him hog it like that before
Essendon = DANGER GAME. Hird always runs rampant. Stop Hird, you stop Essendon.
