Great game, was good to see Taz pull his socks up (literally), Josh killed Seaby in the ruck, Trav had a good game, Egan has arrived, Daisy made a great comeback, O'Bree played a blinder (shows what happens when you don't put a hard tag on him), Brodie and Johnno kept Judd relatively quiet, and Davies proved he is a more than worthy substitute for Licca. Rocca should pull his head in a bit, i understand that he's had a lot to be angry about with umpiring decisions of late, but what's losing it going to do? Throwing a hissy fit never helped Richo. I think Anthony is better than that. Also, Tarkyn Lockyer may have got 23 pssessions but I think Mick needs to find a better matchup for him in games against WCE, Saints, Melbourne and Freo. In the past five weeks, he's been beaten by Milne, Farmer, Davey and now Kerr (when he was on him. I think Morrison was on him for a bit too, yesterday). Or maybe it's time we rest Tarks and bring back Harry?
Well done, guys. Bring on the Dawks.

Congrats Bucks, on a great return! Bring on the Crows!

seriously rocca deserves to be pissed off about that decision to reverse the free kick in front of goals. If you watch the replay the west coast player ran straight into him & then took a dive. Rocca didnt even move his arms to push the guy....shocking decision !!

Buckley cashes in
23 July 2006 Herald-Sun

NATHAN Buckley kicked "only" two goals as a permanent forward yesterday, but his display has surely convinced all at Collingwood his final few seasons can be every bit as valuable in front of goals as his glory years in the midfield.
The Collingwood captain caused an instant change in momentum when he moved forward late in the first quarter and he almost willed his team to a 37-point win, which has put his side's season back on track.
While West Coast was vulnerable with so many of its stars out and it suffered a key injury to Adam Hunter in the first term, the runaway win by the Pies contained enough positives for them to be re-setting their goals on a top-four finish.
That might sound obvious, but when they trailed by five goals to two early, it seemed they might even struggle to hang on to a spot in the eight, such was their lacklustre start.
Buckley's intense forward line display, the return to form by an enthusiastic Chris Tarrant, a best-on-ground ruck display by Josh Fraser and some courage and dash on the wing by young Dale Thomas had fans reliving the brilliance of their first half of the season.
Tarrant finished with four goals and 19 possessions and although two of his goals were over-the-top gifts, he played with the enthusiasm and authority his critics have said was lacking.
Fraser started up forward, but was soon in the ruck, from where he ran and ran to help change the course of the match. He finished with 26 tapouts, 18 possessions and two goals.
Tarrant and Fraser had to perform well because they had to cover for a poor game by Anthony Rocca in his 200th match. Rocca started in the centre square, but was outrucked by Mark Seaby and outmarked by him when Seaby kicked the opening goal.
The enigmatic Pie lasted only six minutes on the ball before Fraser was swung into action. Although Rocca was useful in giving Fraser regular breathers, there was a pattern that was played out all day: Fraser was too good for Seaby, but Seaby was too good for Rocca.
The Eagles had plenty of excuses, going into the game with the Michael Gardiner controversy and without three of their starting centre-square four in Ben Cousins, Dean Cox and Chad Fletcher. Then before the match they lost Ashley Hansen from the spine.
But the killer blow came 25 minutes into the first quarter when Tarrant's opponent Hunter left the field. It was about then Mick Malthouse sought to strain the Eagle defence even further by sending Buckley forward.
Within two minutes, Buckley had fed the ball to Chris Egan for a goal to enable the Pies to turn only 14 points down at the first change.
Given the Eagle dominance in their attack with two goals each to Quinten Lynch and Brent Staker, it was a good result.
Inside the first minute of the second term, Buckley kicked his first goal and when he centred the ball for a Ben Davies goal four minutes later the Pies had taken the lead.
Midway through the term he showed the enthusiasm of a rookie in running at the ball to keep it in play and knocking it to the advantage of Thomas, who gave an easy goal to Tarrant. Another goal assist to Fraser late in the term meant Buckley had been involved in more than half the Pies' score at half-time. The Magpies also lost a key defender early, but were able to cover for the loss of Shane Wakelin more readily than the Eagles could with Hunter. Simon Prestigiacomo recovered from a shaky start and he and James Clement shut down the Eagles' talls.
After half-time, Buckley's tag Tyson Stenglein handed over to Daniel Chick, but the Magpie veteran continued to contribute physically and inspirationally.
Collingwood had its opposition on toast in the third term, but could not finish it off, mainly because of a series of turnovers as it pushed forward.
Down two goals at three-quarter time, the Eagles might have fancied their chances, given their heroics in pulling numerous games from the fire this year. But with Tarrant growing in confidence as the game wore on and Thomas continuing his mighty debut season, the Pies ran all over them in the final term.
The Eagles' best by a country mile was Daniel Kerr with a game-high 30 possessions, which included 12 clearances.
Chris Judd had 23 possessions compared with 24 by his opponent Ben Johnson, but the Eagle took the honours in that duel. However, the Eagles did not win too many others.
The Pies were entitled to win, but the Eagles, one-time flag favourites, have plenty of worries with injuries and other distractions.

What a great day! Got to sit on Level 1 with the members yesterday and was fantastic stuff! Noise level was amazing!
Pies just great after 1/4 time - great tackling and we finally began to apply real pressure to the opposition. Thought all in all it was a great team effort. Good gutsy win to bring back some belief and confidence to the boys. Loved Joshie, Tazza, Heater and Daisy's game - exciting stuff. We are top 4 for now - great stuff to hopefully end our slump.
Keep up the good work Pies!!!

Snoop Dog wrote:Mick did the right thing pulling Licuria and replacing him with Davies, I thought Davies was very good along with Thomas. Presti, Johno, HS, Fraser, Holland and Buckley were good 4 qtr players and I thouhgt Burns last half was sensational.
Interesting to see Lockyer played further up the ground which seemed to suit.
Thought Lonie had a poor first qtr but was good in the last 3. Staker did not see much of it.
Morrison was horrendous but generally kept Embly pretty quiet.
The win was just that hard tackling and running that we have been missing.
That wouldn't be because he slightly injured his shoulder... came back out with it taped up reasonably heavily...

Great game. Great result.
Good to get that confidence back and now we are back in the 4.
Absolutely loved the Gold Jacket. Missed the Fat Lady despite swapping over to Channel Rex now & then in the last stanza.
Before we "armchair coaches" throw anyone away, think back to 2002/3 and how Rhyce Shaw was travelling. He's OK now and if you let MM do the coaching, you will probably find that the list sorts itself out. (Just look at Nick Davis these days.)
Good one Pies.

Great game - even though the WCE got some goals from suspect frees and marks.
The young guns are what really won the game for us - they really showed the older heads NOT to panic with the ball and just blindly kick it.
When Pendles was cornered on the HB line - just kept moving until he spotted an open player and then hit him with the pass.
Daisy is the gun of last years draft and it will definitely be in top 3 for the Rising Star - as will Heater.
I thought the turning point was in the 2nd quarter when Swanny was running the ball from the wing to the HF line and he was waving to the forwards where the ball was going - someone was taking control.
The confidence was gaining - Chessey with the goals.
Josh and Taz were outstanding.
I really think now that Taz is starting to be able to do on gameday what he is actually training for.
Pebbles needs to have a day or two off from training as I think he is so determined to get some form back that he is over training as is shown on gameday. He needs to relax and let the game come to him & when you get the touch back you can force it then.
Egan was superb and did all the things that MM has been asking of Magic - but he has not been able to do - yet Egan got his chance and he is taking it.
One thing that I did see in the game - we desperately need to trade and get a ruckman to release Josh to the forward line.
Great win in the alternate strip.
