Geez I'm so disappointed......
I thought some blokes took a step backwards today.
Egan has got to do more when he hasn't got the footy......chase,block he may need a bit more time at Willy. TC seems to lack confidence , too many times in the last few games he just bombs away.
On a positive note Rhyce is getting back to some of the form he showed at the start of last season. His run is really needed.

Listened to it on radio and from the first 5 minutes could tell that we weren't in it.
I know that we are better than that and we must find a way of stopping this trend of playing a blinder one week against top sides and having a shocker the next.
Can't even watch it on Fox Footy tonight

This one was an absolute disgrace. On a day they needed to do the hard things too many squibbed out. Twice now in three games they have done this which is not a good sign. Surely MM can now look at both the Melbourne game and this one and see which players don't want to work hard. We have depth, its time for them to go.

POSITIVE SIDE
I can handle the loss. Could have been a lot worse in terms of percentage damage. Just so disapointing that we have missed out on second spot! And now under pressure to hold onto third. We were goin to drop a game or two against poorer opposition. We can't expect to win every one of those matches. It will probably happen again too. Don't forget the Tiges knocked off the crows, when they were flat.
We were flat, if we showed up at all? Better to loose when we play crap, than when we play well. Then we would have something to worry about.
Dispite being flat, we were second to the ball and lacked numbers around the ball. Didn't keep it simple when wet.
NEGATIVE SIDE
Said to my Tiges mates when the Pies were warming up, "we are too top heavy"! So you'd reckon a coaching staff of 37 could have worked that one out! ??? Wakes and C3 were not required at the end of the day. Not that it was the difference in the end.
Now to name names.
Egan. I have serious doubts about him. Not sure he has what it takes. Hope he proves me wrong, but if he hasn't the appitite do simple stuff like chasing & manning up after getting done in a one on one, well, .................. lets say he needs a lot longer in the twos.
As good of form Davis is in, I'm getting tired of him getting his tackles broken. And not manning up too. Not good enough for a proffesional?????
Why, why, why was morrison dropped? If a game suited a player this was it. Surely a straight at it guy is best suited to wet weather footy. Dissapointed he was missing this week after a better game last week from him. Very puzzeled about that one.
Thought BJ, Presti, Rocca were OK. Dids, Bux, Clem, R.Shaw, Taz (just) fair. Rest probably deserve 50% pay and some others not be paid at all.
All need a kick up the Back side. The fact that we didn't provide some sort on come back is very disapointing too. Would have like us to string a few goals together to show something.
The question raised now is........ are we a 9-4 side with a couple of hic-cups. or won 1 from 3 on a slide?
Saints game is now critical for us, when it didn't have to be. I group game into sets. So after the break I thought 2 out of 4 was par. We are now 1-1 with saints and Freo to come. Still can recover. A slump now better than in September.

We have a group of players that always go missing when things get a little tough out there, it was on show as usual in the Demons game and there for everybody to see yet again today.
Lonie, Davis, O'Bree and Tarrant fall into that group.
Trav Cloke has still made no progress since his first game last year while Egan is still a year - more likely two away from even being at AFL standard.
We see these things all the time, comment on them and forget them until they happen all over again.

J26 - did u watch the game on TV with rose coloured glasses on???Johnson#26 wrote:With all due respect for Wakes, he probably wasn't required this afternoon. Neither was TC. We went in too top heavy, similar to the 2003 Grand Final, and paid the price. Would Morrison's bigger body have made the difference? No. Probably ok to switch him for Swan, but I'd have preferred to keep Dale Thomas in.eddiesmith wrote:Tough footballers should play in the wet, thats why I cant believe Thomas and Morrison were left out
Broke our backs in 1997 with four gaosl in round 18 against the Saints as a full forward.Presti#1Fan wrote:Wakes at center half forward was interesting tho... during the last.
We miss Holland's grunt in the midfield, he'd have been worth his weight today. Ditto Maxy.
A short rundown:
Davis: Unseen after 3/4, probably something to do with his leg injured in the Newman incident. Not the worst when on.
Lonie: Hardly sighted from what I saw on TV. Conditions didn't suit, but still...
Didak: Good after half time, the sort of conditions generally suit him. Good by foot when others weren't, not as dangerous as normal.
Buckley: What more can you say. Play him in the midfield as much as possible, he still cuts it.
Clement: Clean, but not an overall factor. Good rebound off halfback.
O'Bree: Didn't fire much at all on an afternoon that seemed to have his name written all over it.
Wakelin: Was solid at CHF in the final term, and generally ok. Probably wasn't required on a day for smalls.
Egan: Quiet.
Pendlebury: Didn't recieve a run until late, hard to call.
Burns: Very prolific without being damaging.
Licuria: Ditto Burns. Won a fair bit of the ball but didn't hurt the Tigers with it.
Tarrant: Although conditions didn't suit, and the Channel Nine commentry crew didn't think the conditions suited him, he probably should have done more. Just wish he'd work on his kicking for goal. Yes, it was wet and slippery, but it just kills us when all the good work is undone.
R.Shaw: One of our best, particuarly in the first half. Very prolific, look forward to the second half of the year.
Rocca: Our only semi-dangerous key forward, at least he scored three goals to keep somewhat in the race for the Coleman Medal.
Lockyer: Busy without being damaging.
Fraser: Hardly sighted, although 19 hitouts is a solid effort.
Johnson: Our best by a street, ran hard, created and was one to hit his targets. Fantastic effort.
T.Cloke: Reletively quiet. Conditions didn't suit, and isn't a ruckman yet.
Prestigiacomo: Good in defense.
Swan: Not sure why he wasn't selected originally. When on, used it nicely and played on from his marks. We've missed him of late.
H.Shaw: Busy early before tapered off.
O'Brien: Patchy, and reported. Not the worst.
We turned it over frequently very bloody frequently - worst offender Licca but not on his pat malone Hell - Bucks did it and Jimmy was far from clean had a dirty day!!
Only boys who could truly hold their heads high were Johnno and Rhyce - Presti broke even
Egan and C3 were disgraceful - no heart, no attack on the ball, didn't chase, didn't man up
Davis was poor after the incident with Newman - but wasn't much chop even before that
Taz ran. chased and tackled - missed some goals he should have got - of course everyone else kicked em
Rocca - semi dangerous FMG - couldn't outbody and outmuscle a muppet like Gaspar - my dead gran was more dangerous
We weren't on from the opening bounce - we were OUT PLAYED and OUT COACHED by a more desparate side on the day end of story
Having the Kermit the Frog aka McLaren umpiring didn't help - but it didn't make the difference
Reload and come up firing next week Pies!!!

OK this article
http://collingwoodfc.com.au/default.asp ... eid=277784
is a big silver lining for this game, maybe more than outweighs it in my mind.
MM showing a bit of humility, taking some blame - I haven't seen him do that publicly before, and it's a big plus for the side. For me it finally puts the post-03 stuff behind us.

Played like a bunch of millionaires.
Mistakes were made by all, from the coaching staff through to the players.
They tactics were pretty obvious as well. They just kept on bombing the ball behind the contest in the F50. This allowed an often free Tiger play to run onto the ball. How this was not picked up and stopped is a mystery, because it happened for much of the game, and it was how they got most of their goals. Also, MM picked the wrong side IMO...too tall, and slow.
With all that said, the players were just running around expecting things to happen. I hope this is a MASSIVE reality check for the boys, because you don't win games by accident, you win games by running hard, making space and being accountable. They failed all three.
For me, Dids, and Rocca were the only two close to having won their contests, and Dids only played ok after the half, when Newman smashed his leg. Rocca was quiet, but managed to snag a couple.
I hope the guys expect much more of themselves next week.
