If things work out then MM can send Daniher a nice Xmas card for giving us the reality check when it was needed - Round 11 and not in September.
MM did some strange things by not swinging changes but I think it was to see how some of the boys would go.
This is the right time to do it so we don't see another 2003 GF - although yesterday did look pretty close to that.
This game has shown us where we need to improve and areas of deficiencies.
The bright part is that we do have players to fill in the missing holes.
Morrison for Shaw or Harry would have seen a far different score from Yze - although he did have a day out.
Stretch, C2 or Fred MUST be played in the ruck and only use Josh sparingly.
Rusling must be included when ready and Dutchie and Swan will add the midfield link roles that were missing.
Daisy and Pendles looked like they are made for the top 22 but Rowe needs way more work.
C3 needs to be played each week and just as Josh did he will improve each week.
Taz and Leon need to chase as a mandatory function and not an option.
Not happy with the loss but we can really improve from this game and after the players get hours of video footage the smart ones will learn and the others will play for ther Gulls.
Put this match in perspective - it was a loss - but we can always learn a lot from this loss to put us in good shape for the next 11 games - and then hopefully September action.

Very Disapointing losing to these turkeys hurts a lot especially when we let them do it so easy our accountability and manning up was shocking a lot of our players packed shit when they saw Pickett on their tail. Richards was a bigger loss than we think we got slaughtered out of the middle. We have a lot of work to do if we want to play finals. We really got exposed today (saying this bit through clenched teeth and punching a wall) by a better side. Didak, Davis , Clement and Fraser worked hard but Josh will never make it on his own in the ruck and travis is not the right substitute for him.

watching Travis Cloke yesterday I'm getting worried about what seems to be his blatant disregard for Mick's game plan...he always seems to kick long to a contest ala Dustin Fletcher. He was lucky to get back in the side as he hadnt done a heap at VFL level....If Ruzza starts to fire he could be joining his brothers back at Willi.

I actually heard on Fox last night that Walls admitted that he wanted to see the 'D's win and that he was glad to see the PIES get thrashed. His comment was that it was about time....
How do we get this blokes GAGGED or do we just ignore the P**CK???
I gues if you ignore something it will go away, the only trouble is that this GOOSE never goes away...I would be interested to know how Mrs.Walls keeps up with him?

I'm generally not what you'd call a 'stats-man', but i did have a quick look at them just now & noticed that these guys failed to lay a tackle for Collingwood yesterday - I think most of their time was spent in defence!!
Chad Morrison: 0 tackles
Heath Shaw: 0 tackles
Travis Cloke: 0 tackles
Shane Wakelin: 0 tackles [OK, was injured]
Jimmy Clement had just the 1

I think the major worry for me was that we seem to have lost the 'hard tackling' game for a more free flowing style of game. That said, our midfield most of the game consisted of Rowe, Pendlebury and Iaccobucci who are too raw to really make an impact.
Thought Davies was probably ahead of these guys...but yesterdays game was obviously part of micks plan to give a few guys experience on the big stage. Sadly, Melbourne's youngstars were more influential than ours, although i thought Rowe, Yakka and Pendles were far from our wosrt.
Id love to see us get back to our hard 'choking' style of game with intense pressure and lots of tackling.
Guys like Lonie, MOrrison, all the kids, Shaw, Davis and Didak were so incredibly weak when it came to tackles that it was embarrassing. Melbourne actually made us crap our pants whenever we got the ball.
But as has been alluded to, it was a good wake up call...melbourne is a quality side. Also, it comes at a good time of the season because we have the split round to recover from our injuries, regather our thoughts and make a full on assault on the top 4.
The main criticism of our start to the year is that we have lost to the 3 good teams in the AFL and have beaten the weakies. You would have to say Adelaide, West Coast, Sydney and Melbourne are the benchmarks at the moment.
The good news is we have 2 weeks to prepare for the Swans and it will be a perfect opportunity to dispell the myth that we cannot beat good teams

This is no time to panic ... let's just consider this a reality check. We played poorly and the Demons played as though they'd been shot up the bum with a thunderbolt ... snapped goals from everywhere, everything worked for them and they have a lot of talent.
simply put, we had a down week after a long run of good form and they set themselves for the game (as does everyone who plays the Pies, because we are Collingwood).
If nothing else take out the positive that we fought it out and didn't roll over and lose by 12 goals plus.
This week off will do the players the world of good.
Keep the faith...

You can't bring in so many kids and expect to win. They may have been inform in the VFL but the level is well below AFL standard. Good expierence for them and I would suggest the club is not that annoyed at losing.
The Demons put us under pressure from the first bounce and we never recovered.
Good teams bounce back and the loss gives us a reality check.

Can't add a lot to what's been said. Let's face it, it was a shit day, and we looked flat right from the start. sometimes teams, even premiership teams, just have a bad day. We can only hope this was one of those, and that we'll bounce back full of vigour after the break.
I do think that Morrison has played his last game, and possibly also Iaccobucci and Rowe. I know it's a harsh call on these young kids, but Yakka, despite having some grunt, simply does not have enough class, and Rowe, despite having some class, has no grunt at all. As for Travis, he seemed to try OK, but has not really made any impact at all this year - a bit of a worry really.
The only positive for me out of the game was the good showing of Pendlebury. He's a classy mid-fielder in the making. It will probably take a couple of years, but the kid has much needed poise and polish.
As for the whole team, were 8 and 3, which is a fantastic spot to be launching our second half from. With Swan, Dutchy and Rhyce back in the side, our mid-field should soon fire up again OK. Also O'Brien and possibly Rusling may also force their way into the side some time in the 2nd half of the season.
