I am flying to WA for 8 days tomorrow and looking forward to watching the QB match on the big screen at the Hyde Park Hotel in Perth along with all the Western Magpies fraternity! There is a powerful Collingwood coterie in Perth faithfully following the fortunes of the Mighty Magpies.
My prediction is for a close hard fought game with Collingwood prevailing by 17 points.

Thanks wam, I'm sure the atmosphere will still be electric nonetheless and the beer cold! I know the Hydey has just been taken over by Woollies and they have plans in store for the venue - Dan Murphy outlet and so on - but it should remain as a haven for the WA Magpies for a long time to come.wa magpie wrote:

Been reading a few of the other footy boards today (most not credible) .... everyone seems to want to write us off this week due to a few injuries. At first read, i guess, i start to agree with them, but when i thought about it some more it puzzled me to think why people were being so negative towards us this week - apart from us just being collingwood!
Yes, we have some injuries. Last week, we still held off Brisbane when we were basically on one leg... The inclusions this week should be enough to cover the losses we have attained. Melbourne have injuries too, Miller is out, he's extremely important to them, also Nicholson is out, a defender that they will desparately miss this week with big tazza coming in to what is already a monsterous forward line. I think its just the case of everyone waiting/hoping for us to fall over...
Well Fu**em pies, lets roll this mob!

I hope you are right mate! I am just a bit worried with those injuries we've had but I think we can get over the line. 57 points would be well deserved!joffa corfe wrote:Im not worried at all infact im at the belief this will be a very good win to collingwood to the tune of something like 57 points.
Iv'e been tipping for weeks our foward line one day will click BINGO goal feast time baby

Tough game.
Melbourne look to be harder at the ball than any other side going around and with our two best performed and well built mids out we could struggle around the centre.
I wouldnt bother with a hard tag on Mclean as he is so talented that he will get the ball anyway but I would try to tag out Johnston and Bruce as they are their two most creative players and set up alot of the play.
White is an elite ruck and good around the ground so we may need our rucks to play accountable football which is something you dont see alot of these days.
As for the guys named as possible ins this week I would probably look at playing Yakka as a priority and definately leave out Rowe as Melbournes hardness and pressure football will expose each and every one of Rowes weaknesses.
Tough game but it just looked like we may be slightly off our best last week which does happen over a season and I cant see us getting the demons on Monday.

Dont worry about injuries.
Collingwood will beat most teams as long as Rocca, Buckley, Fraser and Clement are there. Keep those 4 going and we will make the top 4 comfortably. If we lose one of these guys...the structure and spine seems to fall apart.
Its guys like Swan and co who add the depth to our midfield...but they are not the heart and soul just yet.

I don't actually think this contest will be close at all. History disputes that between these two sides. I really believe that Collingwood will win, and win comfortably.
The last couple years, we have had key injuries against them and the reality is that we should not have even lost them. While I agree that Swan and Holland are two big losses for us, I dont actually consider them to be key losses against Melbourne!
If we break even in the Midfield, we should win. Our Forward line is far superior and our backline, more than good enough to hold their forwards!
Pies by 7-8 Goals!
