heard on footy show Carra is up and about, Maxy needs scans but they think its a corky and Swan has a strained hammy, so maybe 2 weeks or so for each, which is terrific if true.
just on the game, was at a 21st last night and people kept switching over to the Freo Tigers match so I havn't had a chance to watch the whole thing yet, but my impression was that when the game needed to be won our midfield consisted of Richards in ruck tapping to Pendles, Burns and Dids, if that really is the way it was then it is a huge plus for us.
speaking of Pendlebury, wow, I liked what I saw! got caught a couple of times but now I know what all you Williamstown watchers have been yammering on about, wonderful evasivness in the body on body contest, knows how to get his arms free for the clean disposal when the opponent is laying the front on tackle, can put his head over it, and was asked to in a crunch situation last night and took the challenge with aplomb. I think he certaintly deserves to keep his spot on that performance.
also we beat thier "monster" ruck division both in hitouts and possesions around the ground, so I hope that particular fairy story is well and truly put to bed. Would be next to impossible to drop Richards for Cam on the back of that performance you would thingk (though I still have to watch the full replay of course).
seems to me that Trav would also be a while off given that Fraser and Rocca where both playing CHF and Taz will come back next week. Having a midfield that can beat Voss, Aker, Power , Black and Sherman wihout Buckley also gives that extra something up forward, don't you think?
so the most likely Cloke to get a game against Melbourne and Sydney is that old stager, Jason! hope he can seize his opportunity if he gets it.
so perhaps Jason in for Maxy, Taz in for Cara and one of Thomas, Davies or Rhyce in for Swany (I would probably go for Thomas myself, youngsters get tired it's true, but they recover quickly too!)
the next month of footy is so critical for us, we play Sydney, Melbourne and StKilda, thats last years premiers in Sydney and the two other Victorian teams that consider themselves contenders. aside from the Doggies we are yet to beat a current top eight team and we will play 3 of them in the next four weeks.
on the back of last nights performance there is definate reason for optimism,
GOPIES!

Thought we should have had another 2 or 3 goals in the First Q. wasted it a bit going forward.
Best win for the season cos........
1) We didn't play great footy.
2) Missed Taz
3) had nearly no bench and could have got run over, but in fact ran over them!
4) was challenged with hard one on one footy (rarely did we have loose players on the wing etc like previous games)
5) They had a key forward dominating.
The injuries are bad news. "Nil" is now off the injury list. Damn. I thought/hoping he was going to be Long Term!
However, they are injuries we can cover. As long as their not Rocca, Taz, Fraser, Presti, and Clem, We can cover the rest somewhat IMO (as long as there is not heaps of them).
What a massive game this week! Goin to be a 70,000 crowd plus if not 80,000. And Taz all rested to play and over niggles with a good record against this team (kick his biggest Bag against them I think). Plus Miller out ! We owe this mob too.
They play attacing Footy, So we may smash em if its a shoot out.

I listened to it on MMM (hate to admit it) then watched the first 1/2 before going to bed....
some of the decisions were a bit ify....the first 1/2 was scrappy,BUT from all reports and reading some of the posts the game got better as it went of.
I am afriad that the radio coverage didnt do justixe to the T|V coverage, but that is normal.
Any way the boys have proved that they can stand up to ANY side, that they are TOP 4 material and that 2006 will be the YEAR OF THE MAGPIE
Otherwise it was just abit to close for comfort.

I have to say this: it was the gutsiest game I've ever seen this mob play, 2002/03 notwithstanding. Halfway through the 3rd quarter, when Brisbane got two goals in front on the back of six straight and were looking like tearing us apart, as we were down to a single interchange player, I thought we were dead and buried. My body language at that point was shocking: slumped back in the seat, arms crossed, looking a right old misery guts. Then we went BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! and the bloody Ponsford was rocking by 3/4 time! I was even looking down to see if Joffa had the gold jacket out!
Fabulous peformance by all 22 blokes. They took no prisoners and suffered serious casualties but never gave in. Their mental strength is awesome to behold. This was a game we could have folded in, and folded in with honour, because people would have pointed to the injuries suffered during the game and said "that was just bad luck". These guys just do not understand the word "surrender". Kudos to Swannie for staying on the bench all night in support, to Maxy for hobbling out after halftime on crutches to add his support, to Cara for going down for the ball in the incident in which he got hit.
I thought the key stat of the night was centre clearances. At 3/4 time, it was 29-14 in our favour. That's where the game was won - in the bloody trenches. Arise Sir Scott (again) for showing the way in the trenches and to Johnno for his massive effort all around the ground. Bucks was marvellous up forward but also put in a tremendous effort all over the ground. Mr Evergreen!
Excellent debut from Pendles, despite a couple of bad mistakes. A goal with his first kick in league footy! His work in heavy traffic was a joy to behold and his ability to create space was marvellous. I just loved it when he sold Aker the dummy and sprinted clear! I have to say that the kid looks a goer.
Last point: the umpiring was an utter disgrace. We had blokes clobbered in the head and nothing happened; play even went on for a minute whilst Cara lay motionless on the ground, even though the doctor and several trainers were in attendance, before the umpire stopped play. Rocca got belted in the head by Charman who was acting like a mindless thug all night and the umpires didn't apply a 50-metre penalty, even though Rocca and the Brisbane players were moving that way expecting one had been paid. Yet, several times, our blokes merely touched a Brisbane player and got pinged. At half time, I was on the verge of shouting out whether the AFL had paid them to get Brisbane over the line, it was so bad. There ought to be repercussions, but I doubt if we'll hear a word.

Agreed. I thought last week's umpiring was bad, but this week's was completely incompetant, verging on negligent.

I have to admit there was a point during the third where i thought, shit, these p&*$ks are going to beat us. Again. Then Buckley went forward and inspired everyone around him to greatness. So glad to see Lonie kick a goal too, i thought he had the yips the last few shots on goal he's had. Pendles had a great first game, will be a player and a half, that one. Has Maxy got a rock hard scone, or what? You would think a clash with a guy as big as Brown would see Maxy come off the worse for wear! Anyway, great, gutsy win boys, onto the pretenders on the Queens Birthday. Show the Dees who are the best Victorian team going!
Congrats Bucks, on a great return! Bring on the Crows!

Another very good win but Mountains Magpie is right, don't get carried away with things, we still haven't played Melbourne, Sydney, and Saints.Mountains Magpie wrote:It's gonna be bloody difficult not getting carried away.
I'm itching for a crack at Adelaide and West Coast.
But before all that, bring on the Swans, jeez that game is gonna be MASSIVE !!
Oops, sorry, let's get Melbourne and then have a week off first !!! haha
Take that is all before you Magpies, it IS yours for the taking.
All very good teams.
The Pies are hot all the same....you beauty.
The window is open my friend!

this year has been great so far but I think if we had of lost last night it all would have meant nothing. Last night meant so much more than just the 4 points. The boys second half was fantastic Scott Burns was absolutely inspiring. His work in the centre was some of the toughest clerance work I have seen. Bucks played magnificent footy. Heath Shaw showed me last night not only has he got a heap of talent but just as much heart and his courage is limitless. Presti's game on brown cannot be under estimated. They kicked brown the ball almost every single time they went forward, he was their only avenue and he got some very soft free kicks.
Overall this win helps sooth the pain of memories past but will never take it away unless we win a flag this year.
Go the pies....

Fantastic win from an average performance. That is the great thing about it! The reality is that we have won the last couple weeks without playing our best footy and you can't ask for much more than that.
In previous years, we would have fallen apart when Brisbane took the lead, but not this year as there is so much more class in the team!
Now for Mebourne and some revenge for their lucky wins that they have had against us in the last couple years. A mountain of injuries the last couple years is the only reason they have beaten us but this year, we can put out a good 22 players and should win as they have never been able to match up on our forwards.
