Toughest assignment in football, esspecially when you remember that collingwood havent beaten the eagles up there since 1992. Thats 14 years people.
Dean Cox. This guy is going to have a field day. Ill be setting him captain of my dream team thats for sure.
As will i.

Our forward line is our chance, if we get it in there quickly and efficiently we will push the eagles. Im confident we have the backline to go with their so called forwards, but their mdfield may just run ragid. We'll see.

My heart says pies by 17 points.
My head says eagles by 28
got yourself a gun...

I think the pies can do it but it will be a big ask. We are not going to be able to capitalise on opposition mistakes like we did against port and the scum.

If I was Mick Malthouse I'd be thinking a defensive game would be the trick, trying to close down and pressure that stunning midfield the weagles have. If we let it get open and fast they'll get it to thei forward line so quickly and so often our power up forward will be negated.

A big performance from clement and the rest of the backline will be essential.

I see the tab agrees with me placing the Eagles as favourites, but at 2.70 for a pie win I'd be inclined to bet if I did that sort of thing. Watch out West Coast.

When we won the 1990 Grand Final we had the best backline in the business- we are not far off that now- so bring it on!

We've clearly got the best forward line as well. So ditto - bring it on I say!

Our forward line is A-1; our backline is solid; that leaves the centre line and Ruck contests. Our forwards need the opportunities...the backline will start the forays...but its the 'middle' contests that will dictate the results..giving our forwards the opportunities. Mick will rotate our player through the middle like buggery for freshness & matchups. With the resting theory, players like Bucks and Thomas previously mentioned can still be rested in the sense that if they are given less time on the ground but in the positions that they can hurt the opposition...I would still play them...50 minutes of these players given their quality is still a bonus...& I am sure they will be monitored with every stride.

We are almost a completely different team that they played last year where as they are not....maybe we hold the cards

Pies by 15 points.

I think 2 win we will need Josh to lift... and be as effective as ever... Lonie needs to have a blinder... Licks and Tarks need to keep on doing what they've been doing and the backline needs to be a brick wall!!!!

But other than that i think we have a fairly good chance.... of winning hehe I think it'll be the magical 15 points...

This is a game to see where we are at as a team. Someone has mentioned we have not won against the eagles in 14 years and to be honest we have been smashed there in pre season games as well. I suppose if you go on that record we have nothing to lose. As a supporter all i want is our players to have a crack, if we win over there we are a genuine premiership contender and the players confidence and beleif will lift more than it is now.
The eagles will test our pace department but if we can use the ball cleanly and clear the stoppages pace means nothing then.
for us to beat the eagles we need to...
-minimise embley,cousins,judd,kerr,cox
-tarrant and rocca be key players or provide contests all night
-break even in the clearances
-cox will win most of the taps but we have to make him pay around the ground by fraser/richards pushing foward or if cox plays a kick behind the play utilise fraser/richards on the way through
-defense to be solid as it is

match ups
judd-licuria
kerr-holland
cox-fraser/richards

something from left field
we know cox will win the taps what if we have fraser take the centre bounces then move to half foward then a buckly or didak goes on to the ball. this will make the eagles think does cox go back onto fraser or continue as a normal ruck game.If we get enough ball early they would have to make a decision

If that team is correct, then I was right in suggesting that we would use Josh and Travis in ruck-roving roles against the giant Cox. He will beat anyone we can put in there at hit outs, so we may as well virtually concede the hitouts and play to our strengths - our mobility around the ground. It also allows us to play an extra midfielder. If that is what we actually go with (of course Richards might still play) then I reckon it could turn out to be a master stroke by MM. In the words of the late big Kev, "I'm excited". Go Pies!

and weather on Saturday is going to be 30, but drop down to an overnight low of 10 degrees. The game will be played at 5.40pm so i guess the temperature would have started to drop by then.

This fluctuation in temperature will probably have a large impact on the team.

forecast is 26 for tomorrow. Hour by hour forecast predicts:
5pm - 22'C
6pm - 19'C
7pm - 18'C
8pm - 16'C
9pm - 15'C
light wind (10kph)

I think conditions will be ideal for football - I don't think it will trouble us at all. the players will probably like it - will be like playing a day game under lights. But it definitely won't hurt the Weagles' runners either!

(thanks to weather.com)
Go Pies!!!
