Port Adelaide - Pre Match - All thoughts here thanks

Post by dalyc »

After the magic of Anzac Day, and winning $100 on the last three Pies matches, there is something about this game against Port that worries me - just a gut feeling.

Ruck worries me a bit, as do the Cornes boys.

Davies in for Holland? Wakes for Harry?

Ruck isnt as daunting now with Brogan out and Lade working on his own against Fraser and Stretch. Does Port Have another ruckman in the wings???

The Cornes boys are good footballers and yes worry me too, but with D.Wakelin not playing that will place them under some extra pressure to cover our tall fowards and maybe force one of them to play a more defensive role, negating their attacking influence.

steve will do a preview...but not until tomorrow...if anyone else wants to write a preview...go for it, it would be great to get someone else write one.

For now im going to assume Holland is in because i am yet to hear if we will appeal etc.

A few matchups:

Shaw vs Mahoney: Shaw has the ideal size and pace to go with Mahoney. Mahoney is crafty, but i really want to test Heater's versatility. His body shape says to me that he has the ability to be a great attacking defender. He is a perfect sized defender for the modern game to take on smallish forwards

Licuria vs Burgoyne: Peter Burgoyne has often had a lot of trouble breaking the licca tag. Burgoyne does not have a defensive aspect to his game whatsoever. Licuria often gets 30+ touches against the power for this reason. Keep an eye on this, i tip licca to have a blinder

K Cornes vs Obree: Probably the 2 extractors here, probably go head to head and each get 30 touches in a tight game

Buckley vs Cassissi: They will probably put this versatile midfielder on bucks and he will follow our skipper forward, back, midfield or bench

Lonie vs Chad Cornes: Really cant see anyone on our list with the size, shape, speed, or versatility of Lonie who could run with Cornes. I have no doubt Chad will play a lot of time in the middle and forward, but with such a dangerous forward line, i dare say Chad will spend a lot of time Loose across half back. If he does, i would be even thinking of bringing Caracella back into the side to play a defensive role forward. Chad rarely mans up in defence, and Caracella would be a dangerous target for us. Blake could also make leads into silly areas hoping to drag Chad away with him, to leave Rocca and Tarrant one out, remembering that Wakelin is out for the power.

Presti vs Tredrea: Presti usually does the job, a huge task for presti again

Tarks vs Motlop: Motlop and Mahoney did the damage for the power last week, up to tarks and heater to shut them down id think

Lade remains the huge wildcard. Lade is twice the player of HIlle. It really worries me. I would be considering bringing back Shane Wakelin to match him up forward, but i doubt this would happen. It will be up to Guy and Josh to step up a bit and do the job.

Maxwell vs White: 2 youngstars with promising futures who have made good starts to 06.

Sean Burgoyne vs Didak will most likely happen. S. Burgoyne has been in sparkling touch and is beating whoever comes his way. Destroyed Milney on the weekend. Didak will have his hands full.

Interesting to see how close i get there with the matchups. Im sure Collingwood will make the game as messy as possible and choke the power yet again in the centre. If we do so, we will most likely win. If not, the power will over run us. Is a good little test for us. A very winnable game if we stick to tactics

if we could convincgly beat port last year when we wern't at our best, and had many key personel out, then iam proudly confident that we can easily overcome them year.

without D wakelin, our atatck will very dificult to cover for them,

our defence seems to do the job, with presti having taken tredea's scalp numerous times,

i can't wait for this match i love sticking it to port.

Go Pies!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pies by 72 points i've been predicting a cakewalk for a few weks now i reckon one is just around the corner, i dont see this as a danger game, danger games are only for teams not sure of themselves this collingwood team is full of goers, im at the belief our foward line is ready click for four quarters spelling a nightmare for any opposition.
Should be a lot of fun watching it.

We should win, but it does worry me a bit. Only a five day break, where as they have six - not that big an impact but still concerning.

Cornes - Chad and Kane - are the worry, while watch for Motlop - might put Clement on him to shut him down early.

Licca on Peter Burgoyne, certainly, and Bucks in the middle - we need to blast away to a great start to shock their system.

They are a hard team to tip with/against, the Power.

Pies by 2.

Ports strengths

- shaun burgoyne playing a sweeping roll across half back we need to curb his run his opponent needs to take him back to the goal sqaure.

- kane cornes usually plays as a tagger but who would he tag from our midfield so he would play a more attacking role for port my opponent would be licuria

-chad cornes where will he play my guess he will start midfield, who will pick him up has anyone got enough engine capacity to run with him and alone height Maxwell could be a likely type.

Tredrea- presti needs to have first crack we need to get a lot of numbers around him as port will chanel the football to him

-lade he is a danger if he plays foward he might play more in the ruck with brogan out young deluca will come in, if deluca plays ok in the ruck lade will move foward

-mahony sorry this guy is a hack needs to come back to earth after lastw week

Over all we need to move the ball quick into our fowards tarrant and rocca to have big games and we should win by 30 points

Psychologicaly we have it over Port .

It's up to them to worry about us -
remembering that we beat them last year when decimated by injuries
" they have Waklin & Brogan out
" the season ending finals they've lost to us
" how good our record is at AAMI

If we play diciplined footy , we should win .

%$^ we beat Essendum with Taz & Pebbles kicking 1 goal between them , Hill playing the game of his career & the umps crucifying us .

We can and will win it, IF we keep playing like we have. This team must run in numbers, tackle hard, and present like they have been for the last three weeks. If we do that, we will beat them.

I think Davies will come in for brodie, but it would be nice to see young Pendlebury to get an opportunity.

losing wakelin will cripple port

who do they have to play on

rocca
tarrant - bishop
t.cloke
fraser
didak

id even consider bringing in c.cloke for stretch this week as lade is a good strong bodied ruck, alternate c.cloke with fraser between ruck & forward to really stretch port......will hopefully mean c.cornes has to play as a tall defender!!

presti for tredders

if holland out, davies in
my bum is on the swedish
