Heh... y'all wanna be in London!!!
My day will consist of getting up at 4:30 ish and struggling across town to find an aussie pub (I'm thinking the one we saw the World Cup qualifier at) and settling in for a 5:30a.m. kickoff.
Then it's back across town for a day's work where I'm planning on telling them that I look so ratty because I was at a dawn service, which I guess technically I was, provided I remember our forebears at some stage. And the Last Post will do that. It usually brings a tear to the eye. LOVE that song!
Hey London Dave! I'm in E1 and wouldn't mind avoiding having to get over to Shepherd's Bush for the game. I have some crew coming in from Greenwich and some from Islington/Finsbury Park. Do you know of any more centrally located places that will be open and televising the game? I know there's a Walkabout on the Thames but am not sure if it has a big screen. Will be checking the TNT tomorrow.
But to get back on topic... With the long week off and a recent history against the dons that they wouldn't be enjoying, I reckon our boys are going to come out hard and do us all proud. We are coming iin to a bit of long awaited form and will be able to ride that for a few weeks yet. I think it will take Essendon a few weeks to adjust to not having their spearhead (pointyhead?) and so they are ripe for the picking. Hird will be tough to contain so it might be worth not even trying. Maybe have Buckley on him nominally and just let the two of them decide who can cause the most damage. That would make for some good footy imho.
If it's fine, then we will romp it in - maybe by 10 goals. I know that sounds overconfident but as a fan, it's my perogative. So long as the boys keep their heads over the ball and their eyes on the prize, this game's in the bag.
Carna Woods!

I recall Anzac day falling on a Wenesday some time back. The AFL that year had both teams playing on the previous Friday Night.(round 3 matches). That gave both clubs 5 days between matches.hoggy wrote:2001 was on a Wednesday.Magpiefan3 wrote:I heard on Triple M, that next years Anzac Day match is going to be on a Wednesday for the first time ever, and they said its going to be heard to schedule matches for the round.
But not sure if this could be done now,as all teams are meant to have more than a 5 day break between matches.

We need to keep playing how we have the last few weeks...
in particular keep that same standard of delivery into the forward 50 and if we can do that we should go a long way to winning. Keep the good footskills in the middle and forward 50 delivery shouldn't be a problem. If the 50 delivery stays like it has been then our forwards will be percieved as HOT all year long... but its the mids that need to find space for themselves to get that nice delivery in.
Like others have said we can't afford to go defensively minded, besides there is really only Hird that poses a big problem. But he is only one of many.
I say just exploit our strengths and that is a very talented forward line and some very nice foot skills through the middle... and a reasonably solid defense.
Run the ball, choose targets wisely, clean delivery. Heaps of pressure on the ball carrier, give them no time, but create time for ourselves.
I think we should win... but we can't get cocky, we should however be very confident of a win.
