We were good and they were ordinary.

Lets hope it's a continuing trend.

Best game of footy by the CFC for 2 years (possibly bar the WCE and Freo games)! F&*k it - it was much better.

I said in the pre-match thread that I thought we had to win the game in the middle. Also had to make sure we used the footy well. Well we did both and it was terrific. The young players really stood up - Maxwell, OBrien, Thomas (early), H.Shaw were those 2nd tier players that really stood up.

Our HB, C and HF lines were brilliant. Lots of pressure and the ball use was sensational. It was quick and direct up the middle. Johnson and Lockyer were very good in this regard. Swan and Obree were equally very good in using the ball thru the middle with Holland coming into the game at crucial times. I have been a huge OBree bagger but I must admit (as I did last week) he was very good. He played 4 qtrs and his disposal was outstanding......didnt miss a trick.

Honestly the best use of the footy I have seen in a long time. Now whether that is a reflection on the mid coach or Carey I am not sure - but it was very noticable.

After 1/4 time - to which time I thought we were pretty average it all changed. And it changed in many ways bc Richards gave us first use of the footy. Lonie was also negating Wells and in fact absolutely blanketed him. Lockyer was also keeping Grant quiet and putting his body on the line. Bucks was sweeping well and Johno and Lockyer were taking the ball thru the middle of the park.

Whilst the fwds were obviously brilliant it wasnt their finishing that was the most pleasing - it was the pressure they applied. North kept going backwards and making really poor mistakes in their delivery to the fwds. Didak, Tarrant and Davis were the main ones. If North did get it to their fwds then Maxwell, Clement, Wakes and OBrien made sure the footy got to ground. The only nervous part of the game was when Sav kicked 3 in a 3 minutes. But largely I thought Wakes and Clement played well.

Tazz said afterwards he has found Carey sensational. Real connection with him. Also said he loves playing with Pebbles bc it allows him to roam the fwd line which is his preferred position.

Also want to say I thought MM had a much better coaching game today. His matchups were great and he reacted when he needed to.

My best players: Tarrant, OBree, Lockyer, Johnson, Swan, Richards, Maxwell, Lonie noticable mention to Holland and CLement.

Dont think the players I left our were poor - there was not one bloke who did not contribute. Even the blokes who were quiet or just ok to 3/4 time made a contribution in the last (Davis, Pebbles, TC, Cara etc)

Well done Pies.....

Agree with everything, except when you said we were playing ordinary in the first quarter. I could sense how much more potential we had early on in the match, even as early as the three behinds we scored in the first 3 minutes. We were always going to thrash them :)

I just have to comment on Buckley playing around with the positions board at half time, it was hilarious! I think Mick did a good job today though.

PS. O'brien, Heath, Swan, Maxy look like they are going to be part of a fast, highly skilled, highly rebound'y future backline for the mighty magpies. All we need is for C1 or some other young, tall defender to start coming through the ranks and we should be set for a smooth transition from Presti and Wakes.

PPS. Richards was awesome, completely wiped the floor with every other ruckman on the ground (including Fraser).

The much vaunted forward line fired big time today, 12 goals from Taz, Ant and Dids alone. Too many firing targets for the Roos backs. The fight to lock the ball into the forward 50 was the best its been for sometime with Taz's 6 tackles brilliant work.

Bux was sensational an the midfield dominated for much of the game, Guy didn't do much around the ground and got burnt by Hale going forward a few times but, he gave our mids first use of the ball for much of the day and his work at the center bounce was exceptional. All the mids were good, doing their bit. All having 20 or more possessions bar Dutchy with 18. Our work at the center bounces was the best I can recall for many a year, our drive through the middle was breathtaking at times. With Burns, Davies, Pendles killing them at Willy the mids have responded to the pressure and lifted. Neon's footskill kicking into the forward 50 were scintillating, just needs to be able to run all day and to get a bit more of it. 14 kicks and 2 goals 3 was a very afternoon from him.

The in again out again in again Maxwell was near to our best player today, great effort. 11 kicks, 15 handballs, 10 marks. Clem very solid, Wakes still a bit shaky but better. Hertier still has a way to go but has a real dip. Heath looks like he belongs in the side.

Very good effort all round I'd say, with Willy having a hard fought win and several of the list players doing well (including Burns, Davies and Cam) all bodes well for the pressure to be right on for senior spots.

Enough will be said about the stars like Buckley and Tarrant.

What was really impressive was some of the efforts from our second stringers.

Lockyer was simply brilliant of Shannon Grant...restricted him to 14 touches.

Johnson running off half back was brilliant from the 2nd week straight and hit targets...obree and Maxwell were also brilliant and were our top 2 possession getters.

Johnson #26....this one is for you......Richards was great today. His ruckwork was very clever...he was a better option than Fraser today...frase was jumping too early. Richards was hitting to advantage which was pleasing. The only criticism is that he allowed David Hale to have 3 shots on goal in the last quarter...his work around the ground has improvement left. However his ruckwork was spot on and he has earnt his spot after todays effort. 15 hitouts is a good return, especially since it was evenly shared with Rocca and Fraser.

Trav was beaten...but worked really hard, and also looked to have a role up back if he wanted. Dane Swan continues to impress. Clement took Rocca after Wakelin got a bit touched up and did a reasonable job.

I also thought Leon Davis looked really dangerous today. He and Didak along with little Dale THomas were really impressive inside 50 today.

Harry also had a good game...im worried that he gives away a free kick every time he spoils...however umps didnt penalise him today so he got away with it. He perhaps infringes a bit too much. But his thinking under pressure and his disposal is top notch.

Well done RICHARDS. After the first quarter I was yelling for your blood but after that, your tapping skills were spot on...but For christ's sake..when you are about to kick from a mark have some confidence...don't look around like a rabbit with a spot light for 5 minutes...you are missing the opportunities further up ground....Cam will have to wait at least another week Guy...keeep it going...

Bloody great win!

Many of the favourite scapegoats on this site had great games today, Lockyer in particular. He hardly put a foot wrong when he had the ball and his defensive work also first class.

OB keeps on getting so much ball and is using it better. Richards tap work fantastic. Johnno's run and delivery also great. Maxwell nearly always keeps his poise and takes the right option.

Taz back to his best! Great to see him playing like he did in 03.

With our depth and ability to kick big scores again, I'm getting excited!

O'Bree would have to be leading our copeland trophy race wouldnt he. Another 26 touches and 8 marks today. Tarrant, Maxwell and BUckley will probably beat him but geez SHane has had a great start. He is kicking it longer, and simplifying his game, which is the way to go when your disposal is a bit weak. Id love to see a stat as to how many clearences he has had this year. Buckley and Obree at the bounce is a killer
