Lonie, the best game of his career! just like last week! he hasn't ever, and I mean ever, strung two games together like these, the last time he played a game like these two was in a certain losing grand final. If he can keep it up...

Thomas, already in our best 18, simple as that. May tire as the season progresses but we have a player there, for sure.

ROCCA! best bag ever! won us the game.

Fraser, Bucks, Johno, Cara....

Great to have a win!

GO PIES!

simplified the game plan...kick it long to the 4 talls. They marked everything. Simple yet effective.

Im not getting over excited but...hawthorn do not have a defence at all. There is not one defender in the whole team. If our forward line didnt show something today then there wouldve been hell to pay.

But they were great...even caracella was effective with 11 marks. The team is more balanced...although i do not know whether obrien is ready to play as a KPP backman. Id say one of wakelin or j cloke should always be in the team. 5 big backman is too much. Mick must make a choice between the 2. Otherwise, the balance was good, more run off the bench. Lonie, Swan, Didak, Davis are all fantastic 2nd string midfielders, whilst Johnson has played 2 good games straight. Today he was actually effective, whilst last week he was a bit wayward.

Next week against Hay, Brown, Archer...we will see how good our forward line is. The key is they gelled today. Tarrant and Rocca is a good combination
There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

Let's be honest, in the first half we were pretty bad. But in the second half we played as if we were a different team.

I'm so pleased with The Dane's game. I reckon he's the most improved player in our team over the course of 12 months.

Rocca had a great game, simply because our delivery to him in the second half was better. Perhaps they'll do it for 4 Quarters next week? ;)

swanny's skill, and I always used to point it out to my family when he was at williamstown (to the point of annoyance), is that he keeps his feet. If you keep your feet you are always in the contest, the minute you go down (Tarks unfortunately you have got this habit the last couple of weeks) forget about it.

I've been hard on Carra, and somewhat justified I feel, but he was excellent today. I think a move to the wing/halfback has done wonders, he can read the play and use the pill, please leave him there.

One player deserves a special mention and that's Heath Shaw. The kid busted his gut picking up 30 pocessions for Willi yesterday, and then fronted up today to replace Burns in the side. Spending half the game on the bench (understandably), he still picked up 16 or so pocessions. An heroic effort I reckon.

My only disappointment in the whole team was Leon. I know he kicked a couple of goals, but he needs to get more than 7 or 8 touches to keep his spot. Once our forwards starting converting their opportunities, we looked a different side. What a difference a week makes!

10 goals before the dawks answered was a good sign. Next few weeks the challenge is there so its wait and see.

What a relief to have a win - I reckon its just made my 5 yr old sons year after seeing the score on the news.

Great to see Johnson and Lonie had good games - I get the feeling they can provide something special for us in the midfield/wing.

How versatile is Clement to keep Williams to 2 and by the sounds of it 1 an absloutely gimme after a dodge umpiring decision.

Sounds as though Taz's has the goal kicking yips - good to read that he and the other forwards finally started to get a bit of decent delivery.

1-1 were back in it - have some faith.

As happy as can be right now - the monkey is off our back - our first victory since round 14 2005 vs Port Adelaide at Telstra Dome.

How good is that winning feeling? Hawthorn? So what - you can only defeat who you have in front of you, I don't care about getting ahead of myself - I'm as happy as Larry at the moment. :D

Rocca - magnificent, star, he carried us on his shoulders, played in the explosive tone that he did at his best, scored a career best 8 goals, tackled well, busted packs - and the game - wide open. Yes, his opponant was the youthful, inexperienced Zac Dawson - so what? Nothing. He thumped him, we thumped them.

Bucks was all class again in the middle or down back - where he is best suited. What a champion, All-Australian honors are not beyond him. Seriously.

Caracella was all class through the middle and off halfback - smacked of his peak at Essendon from 99-01, setting things up perfectly. We lacked his poise and precision last week, we have it now.:)

Lonie - well played, son. He appears to have now found his niece across the centreline/ruck-rover/halfback and is using the ball as well as ever. A fit and flying Lonie will improve our side in a bigger fashion than many think possible. His perfect footskills are what we have been crying out for. If he can get it and use it 25+ times a match...

Jonno - another who is back to his best. A ball magnet through defence and the middle and using it better than ever with his long, driving left boot. Still a vital player in our make up.

Taz - terrific work rate and marking, just the goal kicking - huge issue. Had he kicked straight it would have been over early.

Davis - good in patches, his work rate has lifted - good second half effort.

Dids - busy and creative up forward and through the middle. Still building up to something big.

Swanny - terrific stuff again, extremely consistent, creative, durable player off hb and through the guts. Could be set for a break out year.

Harry O - beaten by Dixon but fought on. Something to work with.

Holland and Licuria - busy - particuarly Licca - as usual.

Clement - boy, did we need him?! Mauled Williams.

O'Bree - not as productive as last week. Not the worst.

Thomas - terrific work again. has a top notch footy brain and clever ball use.

Richards - who called for his head last week? Thankfully MM is our coach. Was more than useful against the more experienced Everitt - palmed well to space, and will only improve. Freed Rogan to go up forward....

Rogan - all class, using it well, moving well and still building. Another who will be better for the run. Going very nicely.

Maxy was solid across hb, Travis was a spark in the patches when the Hawks challenged, Tarks was solid - cool across hb.

Very pleased with the way we fought back from the Hawthorn challenge - led by that man Anthony Rocca. Those who said he was over the hill should take another peak.

Overall, very pleased. Yes, only Hawthorn and a long, long way to run yet, but winning can be contagous. Very contagous.

Contrasting football in the first and second halves, had Taz kicked straight first quarter, I think it would have been near on over at half time. The midfield just looked very flat after his three misses, kept on hitting him and just not finishing.

I'll go out and say that the second half was probably the best half of football we've played in two years. Caracella on the wing was a good move, he just floated up and down. Sparky still frsutrates with the kicking, but he busts lines and chases hard. Guy Richards held his own in the centre and Fraser was everywhere.

Pebbles deservedly the match winner, but Johnson, Swan, Buckley, and Ryan Lonie in what I would think was his best game were the real guys that got it happening.

Really solid efforts in defence from Jimmy and Presti and Tarks did what he had to. Lots of winners out there for us in the end, when at half time they were few and far between. Leon had a quiet one which was of concern and God knows Heater is going to enjoy an 8 day break after racking up 45+ possies over the weekend.

Good second half pies, but four quarters will be needed to shake the Kangaroos.

Well said...the wheel may finally be turning.:)

We haven't been in the eight since the 'glory' days of 2003...and not even (1/2, 5/5) since round 2 2004. We have a decent draw compared to that season.

Another two things:

1 - Heath Shaw take a bow. Terrific effort - head over the footy, and decent pace, too - backing up off a match for the Gulls yesterday. Keep it up, Heater.

2 - Joffa - good to see Jeff put back in his place. In all seriousness - the publicity was great for the build up.

Terrific Win.

At the end of the day, our forwards are only as good as the delivery from the Midfield. The reality is that when we kicked to our forwards advantage deep into the F50, its amazing how many Grabs and Goals they can kick!

Lonie - Best game I have seen you ever play. Make the Midfield your own because you have the height and skills for it!

Swan - great game. Hasn't Swan snuck up and started to become a really handy player for us. Its only a matter of time before people start calling him and underatted player!

Rocca sensational and so was Taz. Simply proves the theory that Rocca is best from the square and Taz as a Forward Flanker.

Shaw - sensational effort considering that he racked up 30 possessions for Willi yesterday!

Johnson - Good to see you back in form and running off that half back flank creating run for us!

Couple areas of concern!
Richards - We really struggle in the ruck when he is there. I would dare say that Fanning has overtaken him but I hope he proves me wrong!
Caracella - Despite the possessions, I thought he was quite ordinary especially with his shit yourself efforts!

Lonie's niece is playing in our backline?
