Pre match - Pies v. Crows.

Post by Joel »

Matchups? Scores? Teams?

The Crows have had a good start to year. What are we going to have to do to beat them on Monday night?

The Key to beating Adelaide this year will be just to stay with them for 2-3 quarters and then run over top as they have the most taxing game plan in the AFL flood numbers back then sprint forwards. It took its toll in the NAB GF and if you keep the pressure on it will in season proper , also we have to maximise our scoring opportunities as they are a very defensively tight team.

They are a very evenly spread side, as per usual the ones to watch for Mcleoud, Ricciuto, goodwin, that litte johncock doesnt mind playing us. We have had a good record over them barring last year, so who knows, but we will have to play at our best to beat them.

The Marelaide Cows have few options and it will be no surprise who takes the park on April 3. The Pies on the other hand have many options and I think the match committee will match up these has-beens very well.

We owe these woofters plenty for rubbing our nose in it last year and we have the big guns to deliver.

I am expecting it to be close right up until Josh taps down to Licca in the first few seconds and Pauly then plants one right on Pebbles chest.

My tip Peebles first goal in the first minute. 5 for the night. Taz 4, Dids and Mag 3 each. Daisy mark of the round (Not mark of the year, he will do that on Anzac Day in front of 100K+ screaming Magpie supporters)

Gold jacket by 3/4 time.

Collingwood 12.22 94
Adelaide 20.12 132

I was hopeful last year, all that optimism is gone

We have a fit Buckley, Fraser, Rocca, Tarrant, Didak, Richards, O'Bree, Licuria, and a half dozen others jumping out of their skins knowing there is a new crop ready to take their position if they don't play 100%.

We are playing in Victoria in front of a home crowd. We have new coaches and fresh ideas and MM and Eddie ready to sic a hungry team onto the competition. Everyone is underestimating us - all the better.

I'm looking for a good win from Collingwood. We will build this up like a final We win first up against last year's top team (H&A season) - then we play a few teams in a row who are quite beatable in turn.

We need a good start and no team holds fears for us.

Go Pies!

As i am an optimist at the start of the season i would love to say we can win...
On recent form, Adelaide however i dont think they have an outstanding team and are overated IMO...
The Telstra Dome could be a major factor...

The TD is not good for us, we have a poor record especially against Interstate sides there recently. Only wins I can remember are Brisbane in 02 and Port last year

S.Welsh is out
So is N.Bock
the crows IMO are already fairly light on for KP players so these two not being available will be a huge plus for the pies

Having Bock miss will mean that McGregor will most likely have to play back as they aint got anybody else really

This means up forward they will rely on Perrie, Hentschel, Burton, Jericho etc. none of these blokes really send many shivers dwon the spine, but the they do offer up some interesting match ups

I cant really find a place for both Presti & Wakes, im thinking play one of these two on Perrie, but the other prob would have been used on mcgregor!! bloke like hentschel, burton, jericho are more midsized players who clement, maxwell, j.cloke, even h.o'brien would be better suited to!!

Up Forward for us

Rocca get Rutten id think
Tazza get Basset or Hart
T.Cloke - C.Cloke (dont know who they will play) - McGregor

if josh can drift forward at stages i dont think the crows have anybody to go with him!!

as usual in the middle we would struggle with the name players that the crows have like roo, goodwin, mcleod, edwards, as usual i reckon our mids licka, tulips, o'bree will find plenty of the ball & hopefully feed didak, buckley, l.davis, thomas etc. so we can deliver the ball to the forwards

the key will be getting it quick and long to rocca, t.cloke & fraser because our height down forward is something the crows cant match, especially with Bock not playing

We beat Adelaide at the Telstra Dome in 2003 and 2004 and only just lost last year. We have beaten West Coast a couple of times (including 2004) and Sydney in 2002 as well. In fact our total record at TD is 21 wins and 16 losses for a 56.8% strike rate. Considering how poor we have been in recent years except 02 and 03 that seems to suggest we do ok at Telstra Dome. We MUST beat Adelaide if we are going to do anything this year.

We will do the usual Collingwood thing....come out all hyped and kick their arses like we will do for the next 3 - 4 games. Everybody (especially us) will declare them favourites for the flag and then we will have a mediocre season at best. Mark my words. We will just make the 8 and finish between 5 and 8. I used to be an optimist but my mortgage has awakened me.
