Looking at team makeup going into the seaon proper I would have to say that some of these guys are under real pressure. Thomas looks very likely, I am certain that barring injury he will play half a dozen games at least, and if he starts winning games for us it will be very hard to drop him. Stanley looks very good, and Davies can get his own ball too, then theres Rowe who is off the radar now with injury but could be back pressing for selection (along with Rhyce) in the early rounds. Dane Swan can also go into the middle and win the ball. My point is that while people bemoan our midfield they perhaps don't realise the potential bubbling under the surface, by the end of the year our midfield could be a very different beast to what we saw last year. [....]
Well put - as a few players like Egan, DAvies develop this year and the Rhyces, JOhno's etc to gain form the midfield will get quite strong. However I expect it will still be a bit of a weekness for the first half of the season but better than last year.

I agree re CCloke, but another option with his relative (not total) lack of mobility could be to develop him as a specialist full forward, with some ruck work in which he shows surprising aptitude.
Forward line will get a lot better and Buckley in there will make a huge difference, he is the class that could make our forward line unstoppable this year. ANd obviously Rocca if he hits form and Burnsie rotating through is an excellent forward.

EArly days but Thomas looks to me to be the replacement for Buckley in coming years - amazing effort for a second game rookie just out of school. When he did that great bit of evasion in the 2nd he seemed to get his blood up, did a beautiful pass and from taht moment lost the kicking yips. Can't expect him to be as good as Buckley but who is? But he needs to get a new hairstyle quick before the Daisy nickname really sticks. Maybe a Moey or a Guerig Mullet?
Re Hall it was good to see him get a run, seemed to be adjusting to the pace of the big-time, and considering previous descriptions of him looked surprisingly mobile - jury is still out and will be interesting to see how he develops. With Tex starting to look doubtful (although I suspect an injury problem) perhaps he could be his replacement in a year or so? Pure speculation and optimism at this stage.

Disposal seemed the biggest problem to me, they even had Sandilands passing better than us - which makes me wonder about our skills coaching. Obviously it needs to improve but I'm quietly confident in this area. SAndilands is a huge weapon and it's a credit to Freo coaching staff what they have done with him, so that he is not a round-the-ground liability. It looks to me like it might even be Freo's year especially since they are the one intestate team the AFL hasn't handed a flag to so they may be this year's AFL lovechild. Their midfield and forward options are enormous and a testiment to the priority picks of many years of patheticness. The main querie is their attitude and defense. But if that's true, then after this game it makes us look a damn good prospect for this year also.

PS I think Nitric was stirring or being facetious re comments about delisting Tarrant - either that or he's a complete idiot...

Freo Should be investigated for allowing them to play a Cheery Picker

I think that Carey's comments on Tarrant are very pertinent. Carey said that while Tazza may appear to be disinterested, he has found the opposite to be the case. This from one of the greatest forwards of all time who is currently working 1-1 with Tarrant.

The guy works incredibly hard and sometimes isn't rewarded for that effort.

While I was disappointed to have lost the game, overall I think it was a very good performance.

Some of the kids showed quite a lot, Thomas, Stanley, Cox, Davies, Shaw and O'Brien in particular.

Some of the guys who have been around a couple of years continued to develop. Swan was agian impressive, Maxwell could be anything. Richards will be better for the run.

Some of the more senior players didn't have an enourmous impact, Wakelin, Holland and Didak the most obvious.

A few players showed that they could well be in for a very good year. Tarrant, Davis, Fraser, Presti, Lica and O'Bree the standouts.

Add to that the absence of Bucks, Rocca, Burns, R Shaw, Egan, C2, Cara, Clement and it was encouraging to get within 3 goals at Subi in those conditions.

To balance that, Freo were without Bell, Polak, Haddrill, Hayden and Headland from what is arguably their best 22.

But no other club was willing to back him (I mean what pick did he go at??), so good luck to them and him.

Taz was going so hard at blokes behind the play. Alot of big hits. Most of them were pretty fair sheppards

I was sitting in the front row with the only two cheersquad members that the pies sent over, and I can tell you, those boys did an outstanding job to only go down by 16 points playing in that heat. The Western Magpies and our members and supporters were all put directly in the sun to watch the guys play, and we were f**king hot just sitting there, so I can only imagine how those boys must have felt playing in it.
Tazza was in very good spirits from start to finish for that game and I thought he played a ripper. Obviously not exactly how he or we might have wanted him to play, but he did his bit.

As for Licca, after to speaking to him after the game and at the airport yesterday morning, he said his ankle is fine he just rolled it. I hope he is rested for the remainder of the praccie matches and is ready for the season proper.

I think that all pies supporters walked out of that game on Sunday with a really positive attitude and we are all ready for the first round.

licca is the only concern from what i thought was a great match.

Freo had so much of the ball, for very little output, showing our defence is still top notch. That is great news considering the general clement is out and wakelin had limited time. Maxy got a good run on Pavlich. Pav played well but his effect was limited. Max will have learnt a lot and will do a better job next time. Clement wouldve kept him even quieter.

Still a bit of concern over our midfield and the fact that they were over-run. Suppose the weather will do that to you. However our efficiency was better. We gave Tarrant a better opportunity and for a change we looked pretty dangerous at ground level with Leon Davis and Thomas swooping.

Like most I was impressed with our effort despite losing by 16, it was a damn sight better than round seven last year, that's for sure! Thomas was great again, liked his passes to Taz and the kid seems to have a footy brain. Shaw and Swan were good in patches, Leon was magic in his hometown again, kicking our entire first term score, and I just have to praise Taz for that freak goal and the effort he put in, setting up Lonie's supergoal and just the tackling and the fact that at HFF he manages to cover the ground a lot better. I am sure he felt alot freer not being in the goalsqure, tagteamed by the sex offender Parker. Great game from him. Nitric, you're an idiot. Delist Tarrant? What game did u watch?!
Lonie is another revelation. Stick him at half forward or on a wing and watch him turn into a star player. He's a thumping left foot kick, especially on the run, and has improved his tackling. Has pace and if he can work on his marking he'll no longer be an also-ran. About time for this kid to have a great year.
Congrats Bucks, on a great return! Bring on the Crows!

i cannot believe how much that team overuse the ball......do those sort of stats count on champion data, like a string of 5 handpasses under no pressure that retain possession but don't take the ball more than 10 metres.

if so, maybe people entering fantasy footy comps should stack their backlines and midfield with port and freo players....wow 50 possesions per goal, the type of footy that really sends you to sleep :?

Youre impressed. The ALICE chat robot can follow many things, like our discussion about methinks Johnno poor stylist but kick
early career badness let him down
confidence grows him injury stunts him - it's cyclic to him or her dears
the sage tells him or her his talent will endure but your heart will stay in your mouth when his foot touches the ball shock shock shock. But I did not get that.

I think its time we fought for a flag instead of trying to buy one. We have the spirit, we have the supporters, its time Mick Malthouse stopped blamming his tools and showed us his ability!! We are Collingwood, we are proud, we are one and we are together, why can't the club understand that. We want a flag and not profit!!
