Collingwood coach Michael Malthouse has called for pre-season games to be played at night, a day before his team's NAB Cup quarter-final clash against Fremantle which is expected to be played in mid-30 degree heat.
Malthouse said the game - scheduled to start at 4.10pm local time - should have been rescheduled to later in the evening due to Perth's notoriously hot weather.
COLLINGWOOD coach Mick Malthouse has stoked the fire ahead of today's NAB Cup quarter-final showdown with Fremantle, claiming Dockers coach Chris Connolly is under "enormous pressure".
Malthouse, a master of mind games, needed no prompting yesterday to shine the spotlight on his Dockers' counterpart after the Magpies' brief training session at Subiaco Oval.
Mick Malthouse wrote:"We know there's enormous pressure on Chris Connolly to pick his best side and win games of football.
"If you throw the added pressure being applied to him by the appointment of Mark Harvey (as assistant coach), it puts real pressure on him to pick his best side and win games of football.
"Going out and getting an assistant coach that was touted as senior potential, I guess that puts on a little bit of pressure."
AS COLLINGWOOD prepares to brave the West Australian heat and a resurgent Fremantle in the NAB Cup today, coach Mick Malthouse has said logic should override television demands in scheduling the AFL's pre-season competition.
Despite beginning training at Subiaco Oval at 9.30am yesterday, the Magpies had to endure 33-degree temperatures, with forecasters expecting similar conditions for today's 7.10pm (Melbourne time) bounce.
After St Kilda coach Grant Thomas criticised scheduling matches at the hottest time of year, Malthouse said yesterday he would prefer late summer pre-season games to be played at night.
But..very keen to see the youngsters and to see if Davis, Didak, Davies can play some good footie in the middle. Playing Freo on their turf in mid 30 temps is the toughest assigment in footy I reckon.
Rest the seniors and give the young blokes a good run. Hard ground over there and easy to do a knee etc.
Hoping Rocca and Tarrant do not play (or play ltd time).
i actually hope we do win, not because of some piece of metal, but to win back some credibility, to actually stick it to the man! we should hope to win to show the other tossers that have shut us down so many times what we're made of, that we're coming back bigger and better this year!

I have noticed in the Sunday papers up here that the pundits are tipping Freo to win by 25 points...wounder if they have looked out the window lately.
