i was at the match this evening and here are the things that caught my attention:
- j cloke was superb and full of run gr8 to see
- DT tried really hard was gr8 at the 1%ers but needs to work on his kicking, during warm ups and the game as well he never got his kicks higher than about half way up the goal post and lacked distance
- umpire mcburney made sure players had 30 seconds while lining up at goal i noticed him wearing a watch and he was always behind the player lining up at goal and telling how long left
- pebbles was rusty but will be better for the run the more he plays the better his goal kicking will be
- gr8 return by josh fraser very good work ethic around the ground
- when luke ball marked out in the clear about 50m out in extra time, his opponent brodie was up on the wing right infront of me and as soon as brodie looked up and saw ball all on his own all of a sudden he had an attack of the cramps......now im not sayin that he was puttin it on but it did look really sus
and finally why cant they shut the bloody roof when its too sunny!!!!!!!!

I was actually really impressed with O'bree today, thought he played one of his better games for 3 years. Was in control, played smart and kept his errant disposals to a minimum, looked like a composed senior player and really helped out on the half back line.

Well I'll happily take that - them nearly at full strength and us not but with plenty of spirit
Good signs - thought Thomas looked OK, BJ back to a good level of interest, J Cloke - bloody well done - has obviously worked hard, Licca - well usual work ethic, Cam took overhead marks, Leon looks trimmer and more desperate - less flashy and what a joy to see Dids strutting his stuff once again!
One thing - memo Rocca - you are now an elder statesman - you must kick those goals and FFS lose the brain fades that result in reversed frees in frount of OUR goals please
All in all - a good start - and we beat them - so I go to work on Monday happy

Just got home now (been on the booze )
What a game!!! Licca and Dutchy were our guns today. I know Tarks and OB usually cop a bit of stick but they played very well too. Rocca showed us PRESENCE even though he missed a couple of crucial goals. Rocca is worth 3 players even if he is a bit rusty. Tarrant manages to find metres on the lead yet still misses the overhead marks. Bit frustrating.
I missed most of the first quarter because I had to catch a bloody bus between Ringwood and Box Hill (track upgrades) so i missed the 9 pointers.
Anyways it was a good day for us Collingwood Supporters, the winners circle went nuts, and the beer was flowing. Till next week.

Buckley Burns Wakelin and Clement are the four most capped players in our side.
Buckley is also unquestionably our best player, and Clement is probably viaing
with Rocca to be our second most important.
And that Rocca had not played a game since round four last year and it showed.
Given that four of our absolute champions where missing and one other was
as rusty as a car after 20 years at the bottom of the sea, I'd say that was a great victory.
Licca Holland and O'Bree showed they are still up to the callenge,
(Thats West Coast last year, Geelong, and now the Saints that they've knocked over)
Our depleted backline stood up, with Lockyer and JClo having thier best games in ages.
Davies and Travis Cloke continue to cement thier spots in our best 22.
And now Thomas has come along and looks more than Likely.
Fraser showed how dangerous he is as a forward.
And once Taz, Pebs, Carrots and others shake off the cobwebs
our forwardline will improve out of sight.
And the other great thing about the game was the unknowns who didn't play:
Stanley, Iles, Pendlebury, Anthony, Cook....
And the other not so new faces pushing for selection like:
Rhyce, Fanning, Heath, o'Brian, Rowe...
A lot of those names will get a crack over the coming months,
and a lot of pressure will be on our senior and mid tier blokes to perform.
We played against a full strength Stkilda team with our four most
senior missing and one in a hard close game by a point in extra time.
Great start to the season.

Very Impressed!
* Different game plan this year it looks like. Get the ball go long. Down the wings to the hotspot. Instead of Tarrant marking on the boundary at 50! Get the ball and get it Long! No waiting around, thats what made it hard for the Saints in the first half. Just get the ball and get rid of it into space.
* Tough at the ball, no bi standers waiting for just Licca to worm it out. Everyone wanted the leather.
* Plenty of our senior players were out, ie. Bucks Burns Clement Wakes. and the Youth were up for it.
* Cloke boys really turned it on at the same time. Finally! Cam looks nice up foward, and Jason has hit the gym hard! He is Massive!
Too much to talk about, But on last thing....

I had flashbacks of 2002 today.
we congested the play quite a bit, which is pretty hard to do given the new rules. there was some run off hb... mostly created by locks.. but otherwise we looked slow at times.
I don't really know how good the win was... given the players we had out, umpiring dec etc.
time will tell I guess.
is it just me or was lonie on the ball in the final quarter?

Well a win is a win and ya gotta love that but please Pies no more close games thought I was going to have my baby yesterday in the final 36 sec of game and I am not due until May.
Good to hear OBree and Jason having a good game. Thought were some positives especially the intensity of tackles and the pushing forward instead of playing catch ups.
Well Carey earn ya money son cos Taz and Rocca should be kicking those goals.
Good to have Rocca back and yes he will be better for that run he's had a big injury to overcome and we all look forward to screaming his name in the future games when he bombs those goals.
All in all glad we won.
