Apart from a 5 minute lapse of concentration, we were the better team, we outplayed the kangaroos and were pretty accountable through the middle. The most impressive thing was that we hit targets today which was essential considering our small fowrard line. Buckley was very important as he provided a target.

Heres a few notes to consider:

Woewoedin was by far and away our best today. He notched up 24 touches and 5 tackles and did a brilliant job one on one against Shannon Grant and held him to 16 touches and 1 goal whilst he was on him. In the last 5 minutes, Shannon Grant was pushed into the centre and woey was instructed to stay back to keep our structure which left o'bree on Grant. Grant then got 2 straight goals to put the roo's back in it. Woey did great one out, spoiled well and 5 tackles is a huge effort. Plus he got a knock and was playing was a bodged nose and he continued to put his head over it. Great game.

Davies and O'Brien are players of the future. Davies is but a haircut away of looking like a quality footballer. He has played only 3 games and has impressed in all 3. He knows how to get the ball and uses it every time. Plus he takes marks. 18 touches and 8 marks was a big effort. O'Brien is as steady as a rock, has pace, great skills and is not flustered with the ball. I wouldve liked to see him go forward but to see him get 12 quality touches and a goal from a key defensive role was brilliant.

Jason Cloke was bad in the first half, brilliant in the second. Him moving into the ruck and Fanning going forward was a wierd move but worked well. Fanning got a shot on goal whilst Cloke single handedly put us 4 goals infront. He took some great marks, converted a goal, got 17 touches, 11 marks, 6 hitouts, 4 tackles to go along to go with his goal. He was off in the first half and was easily beaten by Sav Rocca when he was tried on him, but his workrate in the second half was instrumental.

Fanning showed a lot of potential today, an NAB rising star nomination i would think. He finally put his body on the line, kicked a goal, took some great marks and won 10 hitouts to go with 10 disposals. Although on the stats sheet it shows we were beaten in the ruck, i thought Fanning and Cloke were actually the more dominant big men onfield.

Holland got 20 touches but let himself down on Brent Harvey who got 34 plus 2 goals 2 points. However Holland was also able to kick 2 goals in what was a pretty loose tag. Harvey gets the points here. Licuria was also down but was played in the forward line where he tried but was just too small to beat his opponent.

O'Bree with 22 touches played a pretty good game and gave us plenty of drive and gave 2 direct assists to Nathan Buckley which set up scoring shots. However his last 4 minutes on Shannon Grant let him down.

If we had Didak we wouldve won because he looked dangerous from the onset.

Votes for our best on ground.

3. Woewoedin
2. Buckley
1. Burns: 21 touches, 7 marks

special mentions to nearly every player including Davies, O'Brien, Fanning, Jason Cloke, Wakelin, Clement

Votes for our worst on ground (very very tough)

3. Paul Licuria: 10 touches is a shocker for licuria but was played out of position.
2. Davis: Thought he showed a lot of spark and has a real role in the team. Although 18 touches and a goal is not bad on the stats sheet, he missed 3 shots on goal, including one where a man was loose in the square. Tough call but that goal wouldve been the difference
1. Trav Cloke: limited game time admittingly but we needed more from our only tall forward who could only manage 6 touches and a goal with 2 behinds.

Special mentions to:
Maxwell who kicked 0.3 despite providing a target
Lockyer who only had 17 touches, nothing really effective
Egan and shaw who had limited game time but only got 7 touches each

Really good effort and plenty to look forward too. It was our second stringers which led the way today

We tried, and did very well against a top 4 side. Plenty to like for the future. Davies will be a 10 year player, while Fanning showed some positive signs of agression in the second half. Harry will be a player, and is a player who sees the crowd rise to their feet. Bucks worked very well as a forward, and Burnsy was one of the main reasons for the great second half.

We did not tank, which is pleasing. We could have won with Dids - maybe.

On another positive note - Woey was great. Won a fair bit of the ball and was a calm head in defence. Davis showed spark, but just was not consistant enough. I liked Heath Shaw's match - when on in the second half. Goes hard at the ball and the contest, and will be a player.

The future looks good - 2007/8/9/10 will be great years. With a full side, we would have smashed them. Enough said.

One more note - Jason Cloke - Well done. Shut his critics up with a terrific effort as a ruckman, and his kicking appears to have improved. Good work. :)

Match Review up soon. Carna Pies!

I couldn't disagree more.If the Roos could only get up in the last seconds of the game against a Collingwood side decimated by injury then they can't be that good.I would say they were seriously over rated and will only be making up the numbers come finals time.

No it wouldn't have.
Yes it would.
A draw equals 2 points leaving Collingwood on 22 points.

A majority of clubs support a change to the rule and the AFL Commission does intend to review the Special Assistance provisions of the National Draft whereby a club receives a priority selection before round one if it finishes with 20 points or less in a season," Demetriou said.

Re Maxwell.

Perhaps he is playing key forward because we have no other options and O'Brien who has gotten his chance is a true defender? :?

Maxwell played well today, led well, provided a target and his 2nd and 3rd efforts were very good (eg. chasing and tackling Shannon Watt until he basically paniced and put it oob)

Cakewalk you are 100% wrong, as long as you do not get 24 points you are entitled to the pick, we wouldve got the pp if we drew today. Im 100% sure. 22 points entitles you to the pick. Thats 5 wins and a draw

Did you not read the quote provided where Demetriou states the 20 points or less priority rule?

You're right.

You get the PP if you win "less than 6 games", it's not "more than 5".

i'm so sick of this B.S. sprouting out of some people's mouths.

We went out there and played football today. We lost yes, but we played damn well and we did not tank.

Before carrying on about getting a priority pick, let's just finish the bloody season and see where we end up, rather than all these know it all pretend supporters who just want to tank games to get a priority pick. You do not have Collingwood pride running through your veins.

I don't agree. Surely it's not a "man". More like a little kid.

But I second the vote to boot.

Yes. Exactly. With only Travis Cloke as a key forward, what else can you do?

Cakewalk i see your reasoning, but demetriou said it wrong then because i was of your train of thought until recently when i got it confirmed on the radio by tripple m who have been talking about it a lot lately. Obviously your source is probably more reliable than mine but it has always been less than 6 wins, if it is 5 wins this year, it is the first time the rule has been like that
