melissa wrote:BTW.. who would trade Lonie when we're lacking in footskills? Between him and Didak they are two of the most accurate left foot kicks in the team. Especially on the run. Poor bloke might be injured for the first time in three years but that's no reason to dump on him. I rate him above guys like Rowe who get shuffled around the ground and keep turning the Sherrin over to the enemy.
When Lonie first made the grade he looked like a possible future captain. His skills were impeccable. Then the opposition got wise to him and kept a closer check on him. What this did was expose his defensive weaknesses.

I hate putting the guy down, especially after such a great effort against Medhurst and his injury, but the fact remains that when it comes to winning the hard ball Lonie just disappears. He waits for his opponent to pick the ball up and then goes for the tackle, but invariably misses it anyway.

He has not come on as expected. His kicking skills are great but they are only one part of what a footballer in a premiership team needs. The other attributes Lonie is failing in.

We need to somehow remove 5 players from the list at the end of the year and Lonie, even before the injury, would have been on the shortlist for that.

Match Notes:

Woey was good. If he can keep going that way he may win his place back for next year. Maybe.

Lones...tough luck, isn't it? His career is well and truely on the line...

Our kicking both in the field and at goal was terrible. Really need to work to work on it.

Taz was murdered by Parker and the umps. Not fair at all. The umpires should be the ones fined, not MM or anyone else.

We weren't bad. Not awful. Definitely an improvement. Travis Cloke was good in the second half, while Jason was good in the ruck - it would have been pretty hard to play against Sandilands when you aren't a ruckman.

Yesterday was the day I was proud to be a pie...forget the result.

It was the day that we all rose as one.

One of our own was getting mauled, maligned and plaining stuffed around!

And we didn't take it! We stood as one and showed no one goes against one of our own!

It was a memorable moment, the 24 min mark in the last quarter when the Pie Army stood as one and showed our boy we loved him!

Thank the Lord I am a Pie!

Topic name should read pies vs freo and umps.

Mick's comments were spot on.

Isn't it funny how the [snip] bastards can see tazza supposedly striking someone yet they can't see him getting held time after time.
