Woewoedin was quite good today apart from the last quarter. Ended with 19 pretty gutsy disposals and was important all day. Lonie was doing a brilliant job on medhurst. Medhurst kicked 2 on Maxwell and didnt score again against Lonie. I really think Lones has nuckled down on his accountability. Poor guy, he is starting to play good football in my mind.

If Lonies injury is seroius, you would have to say his trade argument has increased. He is still valuable and after a knee injury, his future is unstable and it would be foolish not to trade him if we can get a big name by using him.

Licuria put in, especially since he pulled up tight in the 3rd quarter and his calf gave him problems. Was not at full pace but worked hard throughout.

Thought Maxwell had a bit of a shocker but tried hard enough. Lockyer was in good touch today wiht 20 touches and some good hard work.

Brodie Holland lifted when we needed him to. Scored 22 touches and kicked a goal. He was really sore at training on friday and spent some time off the ground. As did burnsy. Strange to see burns off at the start of the last quarter.

Buckley had a bit of an off day, despite getting 24 touches and 2 goals. The 3 he missed were just so vital and they were missed at crucial stages. However another solid vote winning effort from the champ. Shame we couldnt do it for him on his 250th.

O'Bree was ok, we really need his ball winning qualities and clearence abilities. 19 touches in a pretty standard obree day. Needed to win a few more touches. Good goal he got.

Other notes of interest. Egan does some great work. 19 touches and shows a real now how around packs. Is fairly hard at it for his size. A lot of Daniel Wells in him but has to get the kicking right.
Fanning has no idea in the ruck but was marginally better in the 2nd half. 8 hitouts in the ruck is quite pathetic but even if his opponent was sandilands. We were foreced to put wakelin in the ruck at times. However the experience he has received this year will hold him in good stead but we are sorely missing richards and fraser.
4th bad game straight for caracella. Time at willy for mine.
Dane Swan with 19 touches was terrific and kicked a goal. Didnt loose a contest today. Along with our other backs, he was really solid. Clement, presti and wakelin held up well again and apart from pavlich getting loose, the other did not look like getting a goal. 15.8 is a pretty low winning score in perfect conditions.

The main difference was the goal kicking. 15.8 (23 scoring shots) to 12.13(25 scoring shots). The goals we missed were very gettable. Tarrant deserved a few more free kicks yes, but we had enough opportunities to win without those kicks.

Basically we were the better side, we had more scoring shots, we had just as much of the ball and had more set shots on goal. We just cannot convert. Didak was very sorely missed as he adds reliabity infront of goal, as is rocca and caracella going missing hurts. The guys shooting for goal are Tarrant and Trav Cloke, 2 very poor set shots on goal. Trav was pittiful today with his kicking but he is coming off injury and his kicking at trained was abismal as well. The year cant end soon enough for trav.

Votes for best:
3. Licca
2. Holland
1. Buckley

special mentions to tarrant with 3 second half goals and a solid effort, swan, clement, presti, wakes, woey, lockyer and egan

votes for worst:

3. Caracella with 4 kicks and 3 marks and 3 handballs. As if he was not there
2. Fanning- Tough but was beaten convincingly and only picked up 5 stats and 8 hitouts. 1 good contested mark the highlight
1. Trav Cloke: 5 marks and 10 touches is an ok return but he did not hit a target and missed important goals convincingly. We looked our best when he was off. Still the pick of the clokes, but not yet

special mentions to Maxwell, Burns with 11 touches was below average but spent time off, heath shaw and leon davis although leon showed some glimpes of magic. Only 9 touches and 0 goals but

Congrats to Harry o'brien on a good debut. He was tough at it and showed a good temperement.

We miss jonno so bad. There were so many situations where we were running out of defence and our run was stopped or it got tied up. Jonno is the master of breaking the lines and getting out of sticky situations.

We need him at his best because he is an essential part of our time. Agree with him been dropped but. However we just loose so much run with him out. We go wide, we give off incorrect handball, slower players end up with it. Jonno must find form early next year

Shattered that we didn't get over the line for Bucks.
He is just an absolute champion.

The umpiring was just frustrating... I am just sick of Tarrant getting nothing and then players like Lloyd who get everything for diving. There is just no consistency. Then Tarrant gets frustrated and releases it and ends up reported. It just isn't fair !!

Lica just tried his heart out all day as usual and Brodie gave us a spark in the last quarter.
Cloke of the J variety was good I thought, did well in the ruck. But we really do miss Fraser and Richards.
Tarkyn did ok, hit the targets but just lacks pace.
I like watching Swan play, he is tough and just goes hard.
Woey was still soft at times but did some good things, especially in the handball department.

Still I saw improvement and we will be better next season when fingers crossed our best team will be playing.

Go Pies
and thank you Bucks!!! :D

Were to begin...

UMPIRES
In a word CRAP.
I have never seen a player be held that much of the ball and not recieve a free kick. All Taz wanted to do was get to the ball and have a fair opportunity to win it. Instead he got raped, no wonder the poor guy is frustrated, i was to and i eould have done more than just hit the stupid bastard!!

Woey
Thought he did a great job today, might have missed a couple of targets but who didn't?? Was hard at it and was one of the reasons we were still in it in the 1st quater

Fanning
Thought he had a very good game, might not win the hit-outs but have we had a ruckman that does lately??? Was very good around the ground and noticed a bit of speed. We must remeber that he was a project player and because of our complete lack of talls had to come up a lot earlier than mick would have liked. For a young kid he has a lot of potential.

Lica Fantastic

Good to see so many nicksters at the game today especailly in a crowd of only 25,000.[/b]
Partyn & the pies is there nemore to life???

Mickey says the Pies are so so close to winning again that Mickey can feel it. May be less than a year till we win which is pleasing.

A great coach once said that Umpires make a lot of mistakes, but not as many as the players do! The reality is that I agree that the umpiring was poor, but what really killed us and has done so for the last 2 seasons is our decision making and poor disposal! Simply not enough players that can hit a target is going to kill us and if this is not rectified over the summer, it will be a long 2006 season! I have one simple criteria for players now and that is "Can he hit a target consitently" If he can't, I dont care what a great citizen he is, I do not want him!

Mickey says did anyone think playing Lucuria at CHF was one of the best decisions Mr Malthouse has made all year.
Well done Luca.

DaVe says that speaking about yourself in the 3rd person is annoying as hell but i totally agree with your comment mickey.

However mick did it against freo last year with success so he tried again with success

I think Didak been out and caracella been useless foreced mick to try that. Teams will learn far too quickly about licuria as he is not overly skillful. His hardness around the packs will be missed. Once every now and then keeps teams guessing

That was one of the worst umpiring displays I've ever seen in my life!

Who the hell were they anyway? Apart from James, have the other two ever umpired a game before?
Hopefully after reviewing the game they never will again!

Even with our lack of skill and poor kicking we would have come a lot closer to winning the game if it wasn't for the unbelievably shocking umpiring.

The highlight of the game was definitely Taz's free. The whole Ponsford and probably most of the Pies supporters at the G gave a standing ovation when it happened. Brodie was applauding, Taz was in shock and even the umpire had to smile.

Licca was great and almost ran himself into the ground again today.
Good to see Harry out there.

The thing that stood out to me was the fact that our players always stand back and wait for somebody else to contest a mark and in the end nobody goes for it which meant the Freo players were taking uncontested marks repeatedly.

Shame they didn't win for Bucks but at least they looked like they made an effort this week.

Shane Wakelin must be the first picked player every week, has to be up there in the elite backmen of the league, can't remember the last time he had an off day. He has a hardness I hope the rest of the team should embrace. Onya Wakes, hopefully a Copeland isnt to far away from your mitts.
