Fully agree Cam.

Was thinking the same thing.

Along with Scotty Cummings who I think can relinquish any involvement he has in skill training.

I think letting BT and McGuane go to Richmond was a mistake.

I'm starting to think Mick is not prepared to have anyone other than lap dogs in the coaches box.

TD showed something and he got fired for no plausible reason.

Match Review: Collingwood lose again

Collingwood came into the match as favourites, which says a lot about the quality of the opposition considering Collingwood sat 13th and lost by close to 80 points to Brisbane the week before. However, Essendon played like a team pushing for the finals and Collingwood played like a team who do not know where they are at the present stage.

Both sides had injuries. The bombers missing their captain James Hird and versatile defender Adam McPhee, as well as key position players in Hille, Laycock, Welsh and Bolton. Collingwood also went in without Rocca, Fraser, Richards, Didak, Cameron Cloke and Rusling. The contest always promised to be competitive, however Essendon put the jump on the Magpies early and never looked back.

Collingwood never hit the lead at any stage during the match. The opening goal came to out of form forward Matthew Lloyd. Collingwood was able to reply quickly from a goal by Chris Tarrant. Collingwood's defence seemed to be the trump card in this match with Prestigiacomo, Wakelin, Clement and Maxwell in top form. Essendon on the other hand seemed a touch undermanned down back. However the game went a lot way to proving that the Magpie defence is penetratable.

Matthew Lloyd was able to kick 8 goals on one of the best full backs in the league and Lucas snagged 5 and dented the confidence of Nick Maxwell. Stanton was the other major goal scorer for the Dons with 2 magnificent goals.
At the other side of the ground, Collingwood was unable to find a major goal scorer until the second half where Nathan Buckley pushed forward and kicked an incredible 6 majors. Buckley also chipped in with 29 disposals which was the second highest on the field.

A 6 goal to 2 opening quarter had the game close to over very early. Essendon looked far more dangerous with Lloyd and Lucas dominating. Lloyd in particular kicked the opening 3 goals. From the outset, Essendon were tougher at the ball. Missed tackles from Collingwood players allowed the Essendon midfield first use of the ball. Peverill in particular had a fantastic opening quarter with 12 touches. Essendon held up well in defence with Travis Cloke held touchless up to quarter time. Collingwood was unable to develop any run through the middle with Paul Licuria held to 2 touches at quarter time and Johnson and Lockyer getting nowhere near the leather.

The second quarter was fairly even but Essendon were able to stretch their lead to 5 goals with a 4 goal to 3 term. Conversion was hampering Collingwood with Tarrant and Caracella missing sitters. Leon Davis added some spark and kicked a brilliant goal but it was not enough. Lloyd and Lucas continued their dominance whilst Peverill continued racking up large stats. Missed tackles from Ben Johnson and Tarkyn Lockyer cost Collingwood unnecessary goals. Essendons toughness was undisputable and anytime Collingwood was able to get a goal, the Dons were able to reply quickly. Collingwoods lack of effort at contests left Malthouse ropable at half time.

The half time spray did little to inspire the pies in the third term. Any hope of a comeback was dismissed quickly by Essendon with a whopping 8 goal to 3 term More importantly, Essendon kicked 8 goals straight whereas Collingwood kicked 3 goals and 5 points. Although each team had the same amount of scoring shots, the accuracy of the bombers was amazing and left Collingwood reeling at three quarter time with a 56 point lead. The smaller midfielders of the bombers were able to push forward and kick telling goals whereas players like Julian Rowe, Egan, O'Bree and Brodie Holland missed important goals. Accuracy was a major difference in the two sides games.

The final quarter was much better from Collingwood, however the resurgence came far too late. Led by Nathan Buckley with 4 last quarter goals, Collingwood slammed on 7 goals and 6 points to 3 goals from Essendon. By the game's end, Collingwood had more scoring shots, more inside 50's and the leading possession getters, yet lost by 26 points. Essendons last quarter was dissapointing but the damage had been done in the third quarter. Buckley was inspirational with his 4 goals and also missed a further 2 that the champion may have got in years gone by. It was a harsh reminder of too many games that the Collingwood outfit were totally reliant on the champion midfielder. In what was mostly junk time, Collingwoods forward line finally looked dangerous and Buckleys presence added a new dimension to it. However, Sheedy played first gamer Jay Nash on the magpie skipper. If the game had been tighter, Im sure Sheedy would have put a more experienced player to hamper Buckleys influence. Brodie Holland and Paul Licuria also played good games for the pies. However not enough was shown by far too many second string players, whereas Essendon displayed a much more balanced outfit.

Brodie Holland was the highest possession getter on the ground with 31 touches, 7 marks and 7 tackles. Buckleys 29 touches, 12 marks and 6 goals was a best on ground effort. Licuria notched up 24 touches and 6 marks, and also finished with 2 goals. Chris Egan showed some spark in the last quarter with 14 touches, and finished with 20 touches in one of his better games for Collingwood. He also kicked 2 goals but missed 3 crucial shots. On the other end of the scale, Caracella finished with 5 touches and only 1 behind, Travis Cloke had a measly 1 kick and no goals but spent a lot of game off the field with a neck and hip injury. Lockyer was only able to manage 9 touches and missed far too many tackles and Ben Johnson only received 13 touches and missed 2 crucial tackles which led to goals. Cole and Hall were the inclusions into the team this week and barely troubled the statisticions, however spent much time off the field.

Collingwood's 3 best on field were
3 votes: Nathan Buckley
2 votes: Brodie Holland
1 vote: Paul Licuria

Votes for worst on ground:
3: Ben Johnson
2: Caracella
1: Prestigiacomo

Injury concerns for the match: Travis Cloke injured his neck in the 2nd quarter. He only played 15 minutes of the third term where he was involved in a big collision with Paul Licuria and Ted Richards. Cloke was in agonising pain and was left in tears after the collision with a corked hip and may miss next round.

Rusling was replaced in the selected side by Richard Cole with his sore shoulder.

A dissapointing return from the Magpies. Against an arch enemy in Essendon, all supporters expect a greater effort from their team. The efforts led to Mick Malthouse labelling his team "soft and slow" in his media press conference after the match.

What a pathetic effort, skills were no existant. Other than Buckley and Holland we were a joke

Good to see Egan get a heap of t in the last quarter, good to know he can find that much of it, his skills will improve over time.

Plenty of guys pushing for a game at Willi next week: Lockeyer, Johnson, Rowe, Fanning, Swan, O'Bree, etc

Tarrant should be given the rest of the seasin off, he clearly isn't intersted at the momment, I suspect that is mainly down to his injury, that said his application is very disapointing.

can't believe O'Bree, Rowe or Fanning didn't get a mention. Travis Cloke also had his worst game for the club but given his age I think we can forgive him

The players should have lined up single file after the game and apologised to Buckley one by one for that effort. You are a champion Bucks but even you can't beat an entire team on your own.

At least we know Bucks can play the forward line. Might get to see him for another 3 years now.

Votes:
3. Buckley
2. Buckley
1. Buckley

Tried hard:
Holland, Clement, Presti (didnt say did well but actually tried hard), Licuria

The rest of you, hang your heads in shame.

As much as I am pissed off with the decision making and disposal, that pales into insignificance compared to the desgracful act of not putting your body on the line which occurred MULTIPLE times last night.

I can't kick well, I'm not fast, I can't take a pack mark, but I am prepared to go in hard for the ball!!!! I don't care if you are a first year player or a 10 year player ... if you aren't prepared to go in hard then PISS OFF

Weekly Observations......

Soft: Lonie, Lockyer, Davis, Caracella, Tarrant.
Poor Disposal: Rowe, O'Bree, Egan, Cole
Un-Co-ordinated: Fanning, Presti

Essentially, we're playing 11 players who arent up to AFL standard. That'll win us a flag for sure.....

Why are these blokes (and i use that term loosely) affraid to hurt themselves? why cant they hold tackles? why dont they have passion? why are they on our list?

Answer: Life's too cosy for some who know we WONT / CANT delist a third of our list all at once due to contracts and also having no-one to replace them with......
Beware the swooping Magpie.

I think everyone here has covered just about everything i wanted to say about last night's 'effort'.But just one more thought:after watching the Pies the last couple of weeks,it's obvious to me that the club will never go anywhere while we have this current midfield group. Our midfield is one of the worst in the competition-players are too slow, couldn't run out of sight on a dark night, too unskilled-couldn't hit a barn door at ten paces, too soft, too easily pushed off the ball.Unless something is done about this very soon then we're going to see a lot more performances like last night's,i'm afraid.

Pretty pathetic performance all round, a last qtr rush made the score a little bit more respectable. Bux and Holland clearly our best. All I want to know is why wasnt a change made on Lloyd and Lucas earlier ??????????? I kept saying to my brother surely a change has to be made !!!!!!!! Finaly the change came in the 3rd qtr once we were 10 or 11 goals down. TOO BLOODY LATE !!!!!!!

Another thing, doesnt it shit you that bloody Lloyd kicks his best effort all year against us. I mean, if it isnt Hird, its LLoyd, if not Lloyd, Lucas etc etc.

Unbelievable.

I am so disappointed in the past two weeks, I remember feeling exactly the same this time last year. Hard to put my heart into the rest of the year.
