collingwood should hopefully win. we had the bye last week again for sum reason, so we are fresh and ready to go.
hopefully we can kick long, acurate, and down the middle.
this time we have to kick straight in front of goals.
taz will be manned up by fletcher is a given. so hopefully ruzza or some 1 else can stand up and be another key forward and put pressure on bombers backline.
hopefully wakes plays to cover llyod (breezers )
will be intresting to see how hall will go in his 1st game.
we are even favourites at this stage to beat the bombers
I was watching white line fever tonight, and a magpie fan rung up and said that we arne't that good that we can afford to have a brownlow medalist in our seconds, and I totally agree with him -
Woewie must come in, should have played last week, so must C1.
It matters not, we can't win this, we only beat them when we're very confident. Besides, has no one else noticed hte win/loss sequence compared to last year? I thought this would be a major subject of discussion, being such an uncanny, almost eerie coincidence!
Apart from winning round three instead of rd2 this year, it's IDENTICAL!!!!
And not JUST the win loss, some of the teams, game scenarios and many of the margins are strikingly similar.

So surely it's a loss this week followed by three wins then three losses?
In 04 AND 05 after our 3 wins we lost to Melbourne in the last quarter and a bit after leading early, followed by a close loss in a tight game to Sydney away.
Anyway, we don't want another win this year, it stuffs the tanking up! And the fact that we keep playing Taz at FF among other astounding decisions proves we're doing just that.

We should win, but I have said that in to many games this year and then we have been beaten. Battle of the walking wounded, junior rucking contest and Fanning will want to stick it to the bombers as he wanted to go there and they rejected him.
Nah Cole must come in. Forget about his past, forget about his mistake. Look at his credentials.
He has pace and has done some good accountable jobs in the past. Possible matchup for lovett.
He has skill. I remember a grass cutting past to tarrants chest against the roos to give us a chance to win the game. His footskills are good
He has bulk. He can knock someone out and take it up to a player like soloman or johnson
On the flip side, his accountability at times has been questionable, his decision making poor. If we are not willing to play our first round pick in his 3rd season then he should be traded. If this is the plan, then we should play him anyway. I doubt we would want to get rid of cole so at round 16 with the season over, he must play. He has talent but not the brain. Experience will help in that facet of his game.

Although this match in the context of the season is not important, a Collingwood vs Essendon match is always exciting. Pride is on stake on what looms to be a wet a cold friday night at the MCG. The winner will take 13th spot on the ladder, the loser 14th. Don't worry, this will still be an eventful friday nigth of football.
On paper, both sides are looking depleted. Collingwood goes in without Alan Didak, Anthony Rocca, Cameron Cloke, Josh Fraser, Guy Richards, Chad Morrison and doubt loom over Tarrant and Rusling. On the other hand, the bombers will be without inspirational skipper James Hird and versatile defender Adam McPhee along with David Hille and Laycock who was close to best on field ANZAC day.
However, this will provide the opportunity for the next generation of footballers to strut their stuff on afl's biggest stage. Travis Cloke made his debut against the bombers on ANZAC day and will look to stamp his authority early. Further, Collingwood give Brent Hall his chance at AFL football given the injury troubles surrounding the other ruckman in the team. Essendon will also require a few changes at the selection table and look like to recal youngstar Tristan Cartledge to play his 3rd game to replace injured Jason Laycock
Both sides are widely criticed for a lack of pace and spark throughout the middle. However both sides have a genuine toughness that cannot be faultered. If wet weather does eventuate, players like Peverill, Johnson, Licuria, Burns, Buckley and Soloman will not shy away from physical encounters. In the midfield, both teams have added youngstars to add spark. Essendon has uncovered talents in Stanton, Dyson, Monfries, Lovett and Thomas whilst Collingwood will be looking from input from Rowe, Egan, Maxwell, Fanning and Hall. Collingwood may also look to include one of the Shaw brothers or recall Adam Iaccobucci to play in wet conditions.
Matchups in the middle may include:
Buckley vs Peverill
Licuria vs Jason Johnson
Mark Johnson vs Burns
Stanton vs Johnson
Murphy vs Rowe
Lovett vs Lockyer
Lonie vs Cupido
Caracella vs Welsh
There will be a few rotations but each contest will be tough and hardball gets will be a very significant stat.
Collingwood's A grade defence remains strong even considering an 80 point thumping by Brisbane last round. Prestigiacomo and Clement held Brown and Bradshaw to 1 goal between them which was an admirable effort. No doubt Lloyd and Lucas have a very tough fight on their hands this week. The battle between Lloyd and Prestigiacomo shapes up to be very defining. Considering both teams have struggled to kick winning scores and Essendon rely heavily on Lloyd, the winner of this battle should find themselves on the winning side.
Up the other end, injury concerns to Tarrant, Rusling and Cloke may limit the output the 3 can provide, However Essendons defence is still very shaky with Dustin Fletcher not at full fitness and Kepler Bradley still finding his feet at AFL level. Soloman may play a key role on Travis Cloke whilst Fletcher will definately play on Tarrant.
The battle may be decided by which midfield is able to kick the most goals. As both forward lines have question marks over their heads, opportunities to score running goals will be important. Collingwood has an advantage here as Ryan Lonie is beginning to find touch and Leon Davis has the ability to snag 3 on his day. However Malthouse will be ever mindful on little Andrew Lovett who won the ANZAC day medal and has the ability to burn any player on the field. Richie Cole may be recalled by Malthouse to add pace and possibly play on Lovett whilst Lockyer seems the likely candidate after terrific shut down jobs on faster players all year.
Scott Burns and Buckley may look to push forward if they receive a shorter opponent or to drag the likes of Johnson or Peverill away from contests. Both Buckley and Burns are solid overhead and can probably hold key posts on the ground.
The weather may shape to be telling. Collingwood are a renowned wet weather team but have not played in rainy conditions all year. Essendon has played in the wet twice. They were solid in defeat against the Eagles but were totally smashed by Richmond. Have they learnt their lesson from these defeats or are they just no good in the wet? Are Collingwood still a good wet weather team considering a lot of players are new to the team this year? If it rains, these question will be answered.
Overall, Collingwood strike me to be the better team and more inform team even after a belting by Brisbane last week. The last 2 months from the pies has been solid and has seen 4 wins and 4 losses which is not too bad considering its spot on the ladder. Essendon are experiencing their worst form for close to 5 years. Sheedy has questioned their discipline publicly and questioned their hardness.
So will Essendon prove to be the rabble they have been in the past 2 rounds or will we see a much more disciplined team take to the field on friday night? Will Collingwood bounce back after a crushing loss last round?
My gut tells me the latter. Pies by 35. However, Essendon step up a gear against Collingwood. I doubt they can find this extra gear without James Hird.
