Port were bad ? Some of you just have no idea.
Port WEREN'T bad? Are you nuts? What game were you watching? They were disinterested, flat, unemotional, poorly-skilled, ill-directed, lazy and haphazard in their delivery and goalkicking. Only some of that was related to our planning and pressure. If that doesn't constitute bad... well *shrugs*

is it me or is our game style too defensive? I know MM prides himself that a win will come through great defence (which is a fair point) - but i just thought that now we're too focused on defence and just aren't balancing our attacking abilities with our classy backhalf of the team.

We got a lot of goals from frees but we shouldn't rely on frees to win games - we need to get in there and cut their defence. i'm an attack is your greatest defence idealist because you can't win defending all day. Sure we're attacking but we are just lacking execution and accuracy.

Efficiency and Effectiveness!! Once we have them down pat - then we can be real finals contenders. Thoughts?

The only problem I see with our attack is conversion.

Good win. I only managed to catch the first half 'cos I had to go out (also managed to watch the last 10 mins). I'm going to try and watch it on Fox before I comment further. But from what I saw in the first half, if we'd kicked straight we would have been 5 or 6 goals in front at half time.

Mark Williams was out coached last night, so I think MM deserves some congrats for that. Presti is a champ, O'Bree did well, as did Holland.

Good to look at the goalkickers list and see so many first year players in the list.

No need to resort to childish insults, Cam.

"Only some of this was related to our planning and pressure" ??? How do you work that out ?

Last night, we played the reigning premiers. They had their best team in. Were coming off a 100+ point win. They were fresh.

We hit them hard. WE made them look bad. I suggest you read STOKA35's post at the top of this page.

What game was I watching ? Collingwood v. Port Adelaide. Apparently a different one to you.
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

Whinge Whinge Whinge. For crying out loud, as Magfan8 says, we beat LAST YEARS PREMIERS. Yes they played average football, but at the same time they wernt out of the game at all during it except for the final few minutes.

Last week, we traveled to Sydney. Last week we lost by One stinky point.
Last week, Power were at home in Adelaide, having a club BBQ and relaxing. They were odds on to win. They had the week off. They won by 100+.

We beat them. We farking beat them. Next week, we beat Brisbane.

There is just no pleasing some people...
Whinge if we lose...whinge if we win.
Do me a favour take your whinging with you and follow Richmond, you would all fit in nicely there.

What it all boils down to is this.

A WIN IS A WIN

There end of argument!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

Just on obree, we have been bagging his disposal and his worth to the team, i would like to state some statistics last night that sum it up.

18 kicks-----highest amount on the ground
12 handballs
30 touches----highest on ground
spent 18 minutes off the field
2 inside 50's
5 marks
6 clearences----highest on ground
4 clangers only
23 out of his 30 disposals hit a target(stated in herald sun)
7 tackles----higest on the field
1 goal and 1 point.

Led the way in most of the stats, only made 4 clangers which is great considering the big amount of statistics he was racking up
23 effective touches that hit a target.

Most importantly however was the fact he had 6 clearences. This is amazing considering we had 10 hitouts to 34 hitous. We were smashed in the ruck yet obree led the way for clearences. That is a skill to read the ruck that way. ANd it is no fluke because he is doing it week in week out.

Dont even try and knock obree's game because if you do you are plain and simply wrong
There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.

Childish insults

Read every news article by every journo who covered the game and you will find that the common point was... Port didn't appear give a shit.

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common ... 88,00.html
But last night's loss is the most cutting of the lot. Port could yet sneak into the eight, but it clearly lacks the X-factor for another tilt at the title. Williams' boys have been up for four and a half years and they're starting to look like a tired, bedraggled lot.
http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&s ... eid=212698
The Magpies impressed with the strength of their attack on the ball while Port lacked intensity for much of the evening.
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/co ... 35,00.html
On last night's largely insipid showing in a match which meant so much, Port do not deserve to play in the finals and will not if this is the best they can do in Melbourne on a difficult evening.
While dogged defence and intense pressure has always been a hallmark of sides coached by Mick Malthouse - particularly when he has limited talent to work with - it was not this alone which could be blamed for Port's lack of effect up forward.
In a game of excessive flooding by both sides, Port simply failed to work hard enough on the way out of defence and had too few creative options.
But Port brought the ball in so poorly that outstanding Magpies full-back James Clement was able to repel almost every attack. He took three contested marks in the first quarter, more than the entire Port side.
http://www.theage.com.au/realfooty/news ... 14745.html
Inexplicably, Port did not come to play despite three consecutive wins that had reactivated its season, pushing it into the top eight. By tomorrow night, the Power will surely be in the bottom half of the table again.
http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/ ... 42,00.html
"We're teasing at the moment," Williams said.

"We're not committed enough, we're not real. We have to decide whether we want to be a good side or not."
I'm not whinging at all, simply stating our effort was magnificent, but Port were a mediocre unit. As someone else said, a decent team would have put us to the sword because of our missing goals.
