Season over, 2006 begins now- time to make the RIGHT calls if the team is to move forward. Lokan- see you later- for all the time he spent on the ground- we may as well have played Rusling or Yakka.
The team cannot continue to be one-paced through the middle- its time to go Woey or O'bree- you could see tonight how much we missed Rhys and Johnno (not to mention the Rock and Fraser!)
Rocca was on MMM before the game and suggested he might be back Round 19-22: hopefully sanity will prevail there and he will be saved for 2006.
Malthouse should rush in Richards asap and give Fanning more time at Willy. I was pleased with C2's endeavour tonite- a step forward for him. C3 seemed lost, but he will learn from tonite.
Don't care if we lose to Port next week, but desperate to see the boys pump Brisbane in 2 weeks and touch up Carlton & the Bombers before the end of 2005.
I have barracked for the boys all my life and this next 9 weeks could be the start of something special for 2006- lets get behind the boys and cheer them on.

Interesting to note that the AFL website shows Dane Swan had the most 'effective' kicks of any Collingwood player tonight (14), with O'Bree second (13) and were the only Collingwood players to register effective kicks into double figures.
O'Bree had 30 (highest) possesions and the most contested possessions (15) of any Pie, no one sent the ball inside 50 more times than O'B tonight.
I've been a knocker but he's obviously done the job tonight.
Swan had 29 possesions (second highest) and the highest amount of effective disposals by foot of anyone in the team. He's coming along very nicely and ain't to blame.
I am simply too frustrated to comment on the inclusion of Lokan.
Lonie on the other hand put in.
Bux is a deadset, as good as you'll probably ever see, legend, a great man of Collingwood and a genuine, inspirational hero.
Burns and Clem are his great deputies, havng also acheived greatness.

i wouldnt say he cost us the game, but as much as it hurts me to say it, he lets us down week in week out. im amazed at how a "professional" footballer can miss so many set shots that must be practised thousands of times. he may be injured, sick or whatever, but if he's out there then he must give 100%. there was one incident highlighted when he really didnt look interested. swan was great again, bux...... well, bux was unbelievable..........Tarrant's errant kicking cost us the game and one must question his worth to the team.
all in all, it was good to see the boys have a real hot go, and if things went a little bit out way in those dying seconds, we would be singing a much happier tune - but, im a pies supporter, and im used to it!
bring on next week!!

Hard to be overly negative on the boys tonight, they played their guts out. Tarrant played ok, took 7 marks and slotted 2 goals. He is not a full forward, 2 goals from him is the contribution we need. Cam Cloke needs to step up in the forward line. Hoewver i though Cam was really good tonight in the ruck and kept us in it.
Trav Cloke in the ruck for the last 10minutes was an inspirational move from mick and worked wonders. Buckley was beyond explanation.
Lonie was great, 2 goals is juts what we need from him. Burns is a champ.
Now the interesting 2 tonight were Obree and Swan. Both racked up stats but are been highyl criticised here.
Swan i thought was brilliant all night however his last quarter was a shocker. Dropped a mark in the goal square which led to a goal and went for barry hall instead of the ball late in the game. Turned it over a bit. HOwever he was absolutely brilliant with 30 touches. One of his better games.
Obree was good again tonight. He hit a few targets tonight. Really it is hard to be judgemental on kicking as it was a kick it when you get type game. No time to be precise. In the packs, it was pick it up and boot it.
Cheesy's job was to get it in the packs and move it on quickly. It was also to run hard through the lines and pump it inside 50. He did this well and continued his good tackling form and was hard in the packs. 30 possessions and 3 tackles.
Thought Rusling was needed tonight more than Egan but anyway. ANother forward was essential, we just didnt have the goal scoring options that sydney had. Because Fanning was playing bad, trav and cam had to ruck which left tarrant surrounded by midgets. And it worked well but we definately needed anotehr target.
Woey was ok, didnt get any game time but when he was on did ok.
Again on Tarrant, his misses were from 50 out and were tough shots, but i agree he has to get them, one hit the post but and the other marked on the line. It just isnt going his way, but he was ok around the ground and provided a tall target. Was beaten on the night by barry but.
Holland v Williams was great. Brodie tried hard but williams was pretty influential. Id say about a tie but Brodie died off in the last quarter.
Presti came back really hard against Barry Hall. Was beaten convincingly early but did not let barry hall get ontop of him
And another player who has not been mentioned in Nick Maxwell. Some brilliant marks and was hardly beaten tonight, although his direct opponent was Nick Davis who was good as well. However Nick put his body on the line many times.
Caracella and Didak were lively without playing their best.
Unfair is the word i would use. It sums up the season. Close but yet so far. Another close loss, thats about the 4th time now. We won those games 2 years back. WHen its not meant to be, its not meant to be.
My votes:
3. Nathan Buckley: although he only played 65%, his 28 touches were all good and was by far our most effective player. Hit targets in a game which was not clean. Took him a quarter to find the pace, but did so quickly.
2. Scott Burns: 22 touches, 4 tackles and 2 goals was vital and kicked them when no one else could
1. s.Obree- as mentioned above, 30 touches, won a lot of clearence, hit some targets for a change. Made a few errors but on whole a good game
special mentions to Swan who doesnt get in due to a poor last quarter, Lonie who kicked 2 goals and hit targets each time he touched it, Cam Cloke who provided a contest in the ruck with 11 h/o and Maxwell who kicked a goal and notched up 18 touches.
Worst on ground:
3. David Fanning: Was just no good, only 11 hitouts and beaten easily. Has a lot to learn, but good to see him getting experience in big games.
2. Matthew Lokan: Not much game time admittingly, only 3 touches and rarely sighted.
1. J. Rowe: Showed a few signs, but missed too many targets, a stint in willy looms, however i still believe he is a big player for collingwood who just needs to settle down.
Special mentions to Tarrant, Caracella and Didak who only got 4 goals between them and 8 points, how i wish that was the other way around. Especially Caracella and Didak who rarely miss, to see 5 points next to their names is a dissapointment. Tarrant gets off due to 7 marks but needs support and someone to take attention away from him. Even Trav Cloke tonight got lost a lot.

Just reading a few more posts, Cant knock obree tonight, he is the only one winning clearences. I think he is really good with Buckley beside him too as it allows him to move it on to a player with damaging disposal. Lonie standing next to Buckley is also good as it just adds classy disposal and genuine goal scoring power from midfielders. Didak was also there at times. I just love that combination and it worked well most of the night. Didak was so close to been one of the best but missed 3 goals and finished with 1, so ends up one of our worst. Funny game football

Yes he was under pressure himself.Miz wrote:deck wrote:He wasn't that bad. Was in our best players tonight.Miz wrote: O'Brees disposal was pathetic
Did you like the kicks that were to the oppositions advantage, the ones to no-one or the endless handballs that put his team mates under pressure every time?
My brains alco hostile like the gaza strip.

You guys crap on Obree every week without discretion. I had my concerns in 2004... He stopped winning ball(which is what he is there for). Get over it, neither he or Lica are in the side because they ooze class.
Anyway..
Cam Cloke played his best game ever.
Egan was hungry and chased the whole game. Neon Leon's boat cruise days are over.
Swan reads the ball very well. Bit soft on Hall.
Lonie good when running free, would have had a super game if his opponent was not athletically superior.
Burns and Bucks - It is going to hurt badly when they go.
Didak Great player and all but this screamer thing he has had going since Anzac day, is a concern and will lose us games.
Wowey Losing life lines
MaxyHas a massive heart and plays like every game is his last. Got Davis dragged, when Davis is probably more gifted out of the two of them.
