I reckon your matchups might get a go throughout the match. Melbourne are very versatile and have a number of players who can play forward or midfield, or midfield/back etc.

Clement will probably stay with Robertson as he has had the wood on him the last few years. Shaw might get Yze and provide some run off half back.

We have started to gain a bit of consistency now and I am not convinced that they have as yet.

So which melbourne team will turn up on Monday, the side that has looked so good over the last couple of weeks or the side that had their midfield ripped apart by Hawthorn a few weeks ago?

Melbourne have been all over the shop for years now and their form from year to year is impossible to follow but you would have to say that they have arguably the most potent forward line in the comp, one of the more underated midfield dashers (Johnstone) and have picked up a very solid ball winner in Mclean who will be very hard to beat for the Rising Star award this year.

Having said all that I can't see Melbourne winning this game, we have far too much grunt in the midfield along with the run that we have developed in recent weeks then theres an issue with the way the demon defense functions and the way Bizzell, Whelan and Co regularly run off their opponents and set up from defense.

Our forward line looks better right now than it did in the Grand Final years of 02 & 03 with a hell of a lot more options and Rocca still to come back in.
I think their defense will find this tough particularly if our Mids get on top early.

**** I hate the AGE

UMPIRES

McBurney, Wenn, McInerney

First have to dampen my day by showing me that halfwit McBurney is umpiring then their prediction

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY

Melbourne has a better midfield and more options forward. Assuming that Moloney, Johnstone and McLean win their share, the Demons can set up nicely in the front half with Yze, Bruce, Green, Miller and Neitz. The only question mark is whether Melbourne can execute under the enormous defensive pressure the Magpies have been applying.

PREDICTION

Melbourne by 31points.

Hello? Isnt there 2 teams out there? Arent they playing the side who outscored the best 2 teams in the comp last 3 weeks? But no, its only whether or not Melbourne can control the game, not whether we can go with them. The AGE know nothing,. bunch of dickheads

MM does have some nice moves up his sleeve this week.

For the past 4 games teams have been flooding against us - that won't work if we have Bux, Lonie, Jimmy and C3 as the long range shooters.

Taz to be played up the ground will be very bad for the Dees to macth up on as will Ruslings pace and size.

C3 - well they will be trying to minimize his impact and that is all you can do of players of his calibre - too big, too strong, too tough and too fast for anyone on the Dees list.

Dids and Cara to kick another 8 - 10 between them would be nice.

The midfield will tell the tale - if we can put pressure on TJ he sprays the kicks and we just need Dutchie to follow Yze everywhere and blanket him ala Gayfer.

Pies win the midfield we will win by 6 goals.

Interesting that for the fourth week in a row - few people (in the media) that is, have picked the Pies. What do we have to do? Winning 3 in a row against good opposition just doesnt cut it obviously. I for one, dont care and am quite happy to keep our underdog status (just annoys me that people still dont rate us)

GO PIES!! :D

We have just discovered that Dutchie is a natural ball winning midfielder, why on earth would you want him back on tagging roles?

I'm glad we are the underdogs. I think Licuria should go with Yze,he will make him accountable.

collingwoodjoe, i was giong to say clement on yze, like your matchups buddy. Dont know about buckley vs green and holland vs bruce. I reckon Morrison and Swan could get the job on those two, as their opponents have to be versatile enough to play defencive roles as they slot up forward for a break at the end of the quarter. Holland may get a run on Nathan Brown or McDonald. Licuria may even get the job on Bruce. Bruce and Green are a bit tall for Holland. Buckley will be eased back in if he plays. Otherwise your matchups are very well thought out. We'll see if they pan out.

Bucks wont play, that would be nuts. I reckon Johnno has been left out, he had a bit of a dud day against the Dees last time, & MM clearly was looking at last time with the picks, Lokan, Lones & C1 were very good this round last year. I suspect Lonie & C1 will come in for Rowe & Egan, but if Rowe gets another go he'd better produce. Lones to play Egans role & C1 to block Neitz's run.

The dangers are Yze (Shaw to track him), Davey, Robbo, & Bruce. If they have slow days we're home. They will need to devote a lot of energy to slowing the amazing Jimmy Clement, easily the best backman & probably the best player overall in the last month.

Lones & Woewie will have points to prove, Scotty will be disappointed with his last couple and I believe they'll underestimate Rus & Trav, putting their energy into stopping Taz, Daks & Cara.

In the end we need to kick 16 goals, that's all. To do this we need to work our arses off to keep the ball in our 50. Every time they go forward they are dangerous, and you just cant coach to stop Robbo & Yze's party tricks. So keep it out of there.

We had them 30 down last year without Rus, Trav, Taz, and the new Dane Swan, and they were far more feared this time last year. I dont believe this wil be close at all. We'll either be with them at 3/4 time & we'll go on with it, or we'll be out of it by half time meaning we haven't come to play, and a 40 point plus season-ending disaster.

We WILL get the opportunities. If we take them & kick straight we we'll win easily. It's up to Taz, Daks, Cara, Trav, O'Bree, Rus & Josh to kick a couple each with one of them snaffling 4+ and we've got 16 goals & a good win.

But this IS the season defining game. Win & we play finals, lose & we'll go down to the swans & face Port & Bris with no confidence.

Go hard pies, REAL hard!
