What a win! The feeling is amazing. We are back, alright, in a big way. The AFL's giant killers. First WCE, then Geelong, now Melbourne! Ahh I love that winning feeling! We are up at the moment - our kids are on fire. How good is C3?

And just a quick pat on the back to the young kids - Swan, both Clokes, Maxwell, Rowe all very good tonight - Rusling showed a lot, and did a bit, Egan was a bit quiet but the other young kids all played good to great games - the future looks great for the pies - and Buckley a couple of weeks away - ohh, I'm salivating :)

The obvious best on grounds tonight were clement, didak and Holland. I found the most pleasing things to be Tarkyn lockyers awesome shut down job on ablett, only left him with 18 touches, Swans fantastic work in defence, Maxwell's cool head under pressure, Travis CLoke and his ability to pick up the ball at ground level and Cameron Cloke winning 17 hitouts and taking charge when josh was having an ordinary night.

Josh played 70 minutes and hardly touched it but Cam Cloke was good. Best game in collingwood colours and has earnt his spot next week.

Further, Rusling is the most exiting player i have ever seen. He was starting 5 metres behind Harley and ended up 5 metres ahead of him about 5 times. Harley was outclassed by 2nd gamer Rusling, was moved to Trav Cloke who has played about 5 games and was cleaned up worst, was move to Tarrant who fixed him up even worse. Geelong who supposedly has a stellar defence was absolutely cleaned up by and inexperienced forward line. If we can do it to geelong, we can do it to anyone.

Our backline must now be considered the best going around, and i thought wakelin had an ordinary night. Presti held kingsley well enough, let him go late but did his job. Maxwell and Clement and Swan held up the defence so well.

Its great to know that even if a team is coming hard at us that we have cool heads down back. It just makes you comfortable to know that teams will struggle to kick goals on you.

Although we were up by 42 points, i always knew geelong would come back. A 24 point win was the perfect result. Highlight of my night was standing up with every collingwood supporter in the ground at half time and clapping off the team. The jogged off, heads up, patting each other as if they had really achieved something. And they did. 6 goal to 1 2nd quarter turned the match. It was pretty much a 4 quarter effort. Geelong came hard but we weathered the storm.

Tarrant looked awesome around the center. Scarlett just totally lost him. Scarlett has no idea up the ground. Trav also rotating with Tarrant in the center looks so dangerous. Rusling on the lead is a killer.

Rusling came off injured in the last quarter, any news on him, he looked alright. I think he is going to be very important to us.

Only negatives i think were the fact that Rowe had a shocker again. He has all the skills but not the cool head that players like maxwell have. Probably will be dropped for either yakka, davies or davis. Or probably ben johnson to come in. I thought woey did enough sweeping off half back and pushing forward tonight. Just adds a bit more depth to the midfield. Was a bit weak going for marks however, but did some good things at the bottom of packs. The other negatives were Josh Fraser not touching it, lucky Cam was brilliant and I didnt think Morrison had a beauty. Egan quiet too.

As i always do:
Votes for best:
3. Clement
2. Didak
1. Holland (32 touches, led the way)

special mentions to licuria, maxwell, tarrant, cloke, cloke, shaw, lockyer

worst on ground (sorry again but i always do it)
3. Josh Fraser (spent 70 minutes on the ground but only got 5 touches, but still coming back from injury, nothing to worry about there, just a quiet one from rogan)
2. Julian Rowe: Panics with the ball, 2 costly turnover, 7 touches
1. Egan: Couldnt get near it tonight, i think he'll be a bit inconsistent until he gets some experience, spent most of the time on the pine, no worries here either, he has shown plenty)

Well thought out win from mick. I must say, we were harsh on mick a few rounds ago, he was developing a young team with hardly any experience and we were competitve still, now his youngstars have come good.

Go Pies, bring on Melbourne

God we've missed Didak, glad to see him back to his brilliant best.

Fantastic Game Clement!

Not to mention OUR Nick, how was that goal of his????

Thoroughly enjoyed the game, certainly made up for me missing last week's game.

Just gonna sit and watch it on Foxtel now.

Yeah, not bad.
But don't wet yourselves, it's only Geelong.

Didak ... sensational.

Rusling ... showed a bit tonight. Unlike last week when he was absolute shite.

Tarrant ... great game, and more party tricks.

T. Cloke ... yeah, he's good.

C. Cloke ... continues to show why he should be offloaded at the earliest possible moment. An absolute moron of a footballer.

Egan ... did nothing ... zilch ... stuff-all.

Woewodin ... great to see the little champ back in action. He played OK too.

O'Bree ... an enigmatic mixture of the sublime and the ridiculous.

Licuria ... more ridiculous than sublime tonight, but he's paid his dues over the years so he can be forgiven, I suppose.

Burns ... a couple of match-defining moments from him. The goal right on half-time. And then that magnificent tackle in the last quarter for holding-the-ball right in front of goal.

Presti ... congratulations.

Three-in-a-row, hey?

Ah well ... I suppose it keeps my bet(s) with Bokka interesting. It'll be worth the $30 (plus postage) if I'm wrong, so I can't lose either way.

Carry on, kids ... as you were ... I'm off-line for a cuppa tea now.

Good breakdown Dave, think you're a bit harsh on Rowe but you're right he didn't play great but I reckon he was ok (you've gotta expect kids to have a couple of turnovers, I think he worked hard tonight, particularly the second half, and was in the middle a bit which he wouldn't be used to).

I was surprised Fraser didn't get more stats, I thought he presented fairly well, again particularlty later on when Travis Cloke went deeper into the forward line, but he couldn't take a mark to save himself - he needs a bit of confidence that's for sure.

Johnno will be back next week (corky from last week apparently) so it will be interesting to see who drops out for him - I think probably Egan, and Lockyer or Burns might rotate forward - but it's all looking good for us atm.

Also, Peter Larkin said the Bucks might be back at Williamstown next week, might be crap but boy, would that be something - Buckely back in the twos, if they're even thinking about it he's gotta be close!!

My Votes:

3: Holland
2: Clement
1: Didak

Honorable mentions to:
-Swanny
-Tarks
-Maxy
-Shawry
-C3
-Ruzza (great second game)

Dids was brilliant. Was the spark that lite the fire in the second term. He is in career best form. Now can have we seen a glimpse as to why he was the number 3 pick in 2000?

Ah Dr Alf...

your comments on Cam Cloke don't surprise me, I know you like to stir but he definately played his best game so far for us tonight and he was against one of the best ruckmen going round in S. King

your comments on Shane Woewodin do however surprise me, he was handy tonight but there were a few one-on-one marking contests that he just plain conceded without a fight when the game was on the line late in the 3rd and early in the last quarter - not good enuff!

The only disappointments I could find tonite were the abysmal kicking of Julian Rowe and Chad Morrison. Get out on the track and address it. Talk to Paul Licuria if you need some advice.

PS: Nicky Maxwell and Dane Swan you guys kicked arse tonite!!

Great game although the fadeout was a bit disappointing and the result of an uneven effort amongst the team.

We had a few guys that were simply outstanding tonight led by:

Holland: Racking up the Copeland points and did all the hard work again tonight, outstanding midfielder.

Clement: Super game, just reads the play so well and has so much composure.

Swan: Works really hard and been amongst our best for a few weeks now.

Didak: He's a genius and looked dangerous every time he got near it.

Then at the other end of the scale we had guys that really didnt cut it:

Fraser: Terrible game, no attack on the ball and didnt seem to care.

Rowe: Diabolical again, hard to see him retaining his spot

Morrison: May as well have been wearing a Geelong gurnsey.

Woewodin: Did some ok things but every time the ball went near him in a one on one he lost, very disappointing.

Other interesting performances were:

Tarrant: Not a great night but if you work as hard as he did tonight things will eventually happen.

C2: One of his better games for the club, worked hard and had good hands.

Rusling: Looks like a great talent, genuine speed and great hands + an accurate set shot.

C3: Good game especially early and did alot of little things that set up goals for others.

Shaw: Looks a very polished player now, not a huge night but has really matured.

When the class of the cats with players like Ablett, Milburn and Corey came at us it looked as though we were in trouble but the most satisfying part of the game was that we held them off and got back on top late in the game.

Dare I say... where are we going to put Rocca? Trav Cloke gives us too much to shift from CHF. Rocca may have to play flank, I don't trust him enough to play from the square, although who knows?

Rusling is our long awaited Full Forward that will allow Taz to roam, and float back and take MOY contenders.

Cam Cloke's bump on King that caused the last quarter turnover and goal to Brodie was inspirational. He was fantastic, and followed on from his determined effort for Willi last week (hope you are reading that Lones)

Next week
Out: Egan, Morrison, Woewodin
In: Davies, Davis, Johnson

Tarkyn was fantastic tonight and I will stop the teletubbie comments for a while.

Maxwell should never be dropped. He has Presti's singlemindness, Clement's skill and Wakelin's judgment.

Rhyce just keeps growing in stature and poise.

Swanny has come from nowhere.

Is it possible that we have players actually improving? The mythical 2nd and 3rd tiers are on the rise? Still not getting too excited, we will find out more after we lose one.
Get back on top.

Cam - Rocca and Travis can play duel CHF :) - Rocca and T. Cloke side by side and Tarrant in the goal square. One can lead long, or two can, or none can, but who the hell are the opposition going to put on Cloke? I think a forward line of Didak Tarrant Caracella, Rocca and T. cloke on the HFF with the little guys at their feet will be very good, and throw in Fraser (recoverd from injury and back in form) with the 4th tall - ouch, it'll be nasty :)
