Luke, have you ever heard of the saying that 'you make your own luck'.

...something along those lines anyway.
Heard it quite a few times Joel. But you have to admit, we were pretty stiff with that McLeod goal.

The Gherig Hit

Post by GoWoodsmen »

Anyone else see the report on Sports Tonight last night that showed Gherig punching one of the Pie boys in the ribs? Anyone heard if it's gonna be looked at?

Also was the Didak incident enough to get done or was it an open hand? Didn't look like it to me.....????

J26, that goal wouldn't have mattered if we were 3-4 goals in front.

GoWoodsmen, he has been suspended for two weeks - well offered the suspension anyway.

cannibal good post, totally agree on julian rowe. The kid is great and he takes some good marks but his skills arent entirely polished just yet. He just rushes a bit i think. But there is no use been critical because it was probably the longest game he has played and against good opposition. He is definately the find of they year for us. His skills will clean up and he will be a star. But to judge him on that games performance, there were a few mistakes, a few missed shots on goal at critical times and a few dropped marks. But you learn with your mistakes and he is the type of kid who will learn and make up for it next time he finds the ball. Which he did with a few good marks. Great to see him get game time.

Already enough said about us, and agree with most of the evaluations, apart from the "sack the coach, admin, etc", fair dinkum are you people just stupid or are you just stupid?

Anyway what I will comment on is the statements re being beaten by a top side. I'm no sore loser, credit where it's due, the saints beat us and deserved the win. But to make any suggestion that the saints are a premiership side, from what I saw of Sunday's game (every minute), is just ridiculous. With the exception of the eagles thus far, our 2002/3 sides would have been a shoe in. Did we peak 2 years to early?

yeah well I guess we were never going to win this game anyway.... still a loss still hurts as much as usual. And we're last.

Alright people time to wake up and smell the roses....

Along with many others that whittle away our hours obsessing over Collingwood, I was terribly optimistic at the start of the season. It seems now with very little to no reason.

Players I expected to step up, Leon, Cole, Didak, C Cloke, have not. I can hear the cries of injuries already; however Cole and C Cloke do not have that excuse!

Players I expected the normal output have disappointed. Holland finished, Obree finished, Burns isn't the player he used to be, Buckley obviously isn't and I hope he doesn't but think he will struggle when he comes back and Rocca is nearly done.

While the backline has performed admirably we don't have key position back man outside of presti, wakes and jimmy. J. Cloke and Tex could come to fill this void but they are at least 2 or three seasons away from solid consistent performances.

What is the answer? Complete overhaul we are at about 5.00! I would like to see Malthouse revert to his angry anti world US V THEM attitude he had at West Coast, Collingwood is the only team in Melbourne that can build a US V THEM culture. Would be interested in thoughts?

For what it's worth I think Frase and Tex will be great players. As far as taz getting triple teamed all the time, I'd like to see him start in the midfield and then roam forward. If he's not carrying an injury, he's got the motor to play on the ball.

Get Tex, frase and C2 to alternate ruck/FF/HFF.

Cole should remove his goatie and stop turning the ball over.

BAsically too classy and nippy in the midfield, and also better organised - they really closed down our midfield run completely without sacrificing their own, very impressive. Look like premiers to me. Of course the 3 injuries, 2 to pivotal players, not sure who the 3rd was, were devastating. We would have lost by a lot less but they had the edge anyway.
We need nippy midfielders - I think Leon is very important to us as a midfielder and must be played there, he is one we are really missing. Have to give young smalls 1's experience as soon as they are half ready - H Shaw, Swan, Egan etc.
King maybe not so nippy but a fresh player with talent who can add something and who needs a chance to develop.
Rusling hopefully to inject some forward class.
Nothing much wrong with the teams attitudes but at least there's no doubt now that we should be in development mode.
Cole - as many have said he is no defender at present. Should be trialed for a while as a small pacy Molloy type forward, ie crash through their defense, and also rotating through midfield. I think he could work well with Rhyce and Leon since when he gets caught they will be running past for the receive.
Walker should be left down back for the time being I reckon, and is needed as backup for Presti, Wakes is a great player but doesn't have the speed to keep up with the likes of Gherig.
Dont have anytyhing to lose now cept early draft picks! Unfortunately we aren't playing that badly, just off the pace of the top 4, so will probably finish in dreaded mid-table. Very unlucky to be bottom, and will be even unluckier when we are not in the bottom 4 at season end, unless MM plays lots of kids.
OH and Fraser bashers, go and follow netball, you don't have any idea about footy.

I agree with you stui, should rotate him through midfield to inject some class and develop that side of his game.

The thing is, scores were level. It took a player such as McLeod to do that.

Honestly, how many of you guys play, have played or have any idea about footy? Not many by the sound sod the way people are bagging Tex earlier in this thread.

If you play footy, you understand that if you play forward for 5 minutes ruck for 5, rested for 5 forward for 5 and back for 5 in each quarter, how are you expected to settle?

You guys bag him, and your a joke, as other have said, play anyone in one possition for a game, and they are allowed to settle, tex hasnt been able to settle once this season, and as a 21 year old what do you expect if he plays 5 positions a game, mostly foreign to were he has been trained.

For all you baggers who have no idea, tex played a whole game on Tredrea in Preseason at CHB, and tredrea kicked 1 and didnt have much of it, next game he got put on hall after hall was on fire and totally shut him down.

come season time he has been played up forward ruck chf everywhere but back. Lets look at it, the only time he has played a whole game at CHB was on DeLuca against blues, and after deluca was on top in 1st quarter, tex chopped him up.

All i can say is back off, and I hope for your sake players dont read this slander.
