I'm just home. What a sh*t day.
It's good to hear that MM "lashed" the players at 3/4 time but far too late IMO. It should have been done before the game. Friggin' Anzac Day and yet what a gutless, spineless, pathetic effort they put in. Every one of them should be ashamed to call himself a man after that miserable effort.
And yet, we lost by only 14 points! Essendon fans will be kidding themselves if they think that win makes any difference. If we'd played with any semblance of team spirit, endeavour, guts and plain old hard-at-it footy, we'd have won that comfortably.
I'm staggered to hear that MM said after the match that they took a "risk" with an ill player, against medical advice. WTF?? We've had a tear miraculously discovered in Buckley's hamstring after two years of him struggling with it, then they stupidly risk Pebbles with a dodgy ankle and now he may be lost to the season, and next we go into the Anzac Day game with a sick player?! If this is true, then MM deserves the arse quick smart. It must be something about his playing with Richmond in the back pocket; he's obviously missing half his grey matter. And we're paying him $750k a year to make sh*t decisions like this?
Frankly, although some blokes played reasonably well, C3 made a terrific debut and Rhyce Shaw was tremendous, they should all go and hang their heads in shame for putting on such a pathetic performance AS A TEAM. Rand talks about the "serial duds". I think some frank talking is required here. The problem is NOT serial duds but serial shirkers. Desertion. Cowardice in the face of the enemy, to be blunt. It would have gotten a bloke shot by firing squad for it in 1915. Lockyer, O'Bree, Williams and Woewodin. The serial shirkers. Somebody should send them a white feather each. None of them deserve to ever pull on a Collingwood guernsey ever again.
Sadly, I expect Malthouse will find a scapegoat elsewhere and go on playing the serial shirkers next week. I don't know who that scapegoat will be but it won't be one of the serial shirkers. I guess we'll find out on Thursday night. However, if any of the serial shirkers gets a game next week, then, seriously, I'll be calling for Malthouse to resign. Enough will have been enough.
I can take losing, provided we have a red hot go. I can take losing, if I know that every bloke who took the field in a Collingwood guernsey put his body on the line. I can take losing, if every bloke who took the field did that guernsey proud. I will never, under any circumstances, at any time, ever accept losing through putting in such a gutless, spineless, pathetic effort as I saw this afternoon.

F@*K how can we play that shit?????? we should have lost by 6 goals at least, we made a shit team, and dud players look good today!!!!!
i cant believe some people are bagging Did's???
he is not 100%fit, and his skill was good when he was on. Cole aswell thought he was ok, just think he should be in the wing/half forward not in the backline
sorry but for me Tarks, Wowey, Willow, Obree and C2 should be dropped, they were shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C2 doesnt know how to mark, and has shocking timing when jumping for the ball, he needs to go back to willi..... i think and hope richards will come in for him...
i think TIRD wasn't as good as ppl are saying either, he had 3 clangers to half time, and made a few more in the second half....
we are finished, no chance against the saints, and then freo away!!!! looks like 1 and 6 to start the year, all over after that....
well done to Shaw and T3
HEY MM WHY THE F@*K DONT YOU GIVE ROWE MORE GAME TIME?????????
Why give the players a spray when you keep playing DUDS?????
A.Willo would not get a game for any other AFL team but yet he is allowed to get under 5 touches a game and stay in, is he F@*king MM or something??????

or vintage Essendon?Dr Alf Andrews wrote:That was vintage Collingwood.
Why do they always come from nowhere and beat us? And next week they'll get done by Brissy by 8 goals.
That debacle with the time-on crap at half time is what broke us, and i knew we wouldn't get back in the game after that.
What's going on: Woey, OBree, Williams, C Cloke? These guys need to be dropped.
Well done to Shaw though.
That new kid in the #32 jumper played good too.

very disappointing effort from the team. How much did we miss Pebs today? Without him, we just dont have the confidence to play the kind of footy we did in rounds 3 and 4. We rely so much on having Rocca and Tarrant fire, when one of them is out (which is regular these days) we struggle so much. Although Taz should have at least converted one of those behinds and hence have 3 goals for the match, he was constantly double and triple teamed for the whole day. Where are our crumbers? We had absolutely nobody to even lock the ball in the forward 50! I can barely remember many bounces that were in our forward 50 at all, let alone one in a dangerous area on top of the goal square.
Was very disappointed from the efforts of Woewodin, Lockyer, Holland, C2, Tex, O'bree, Williams. I think at least O'bree and Williams should make way for 2 new players next week. Would be a good idea to start Woewodin on the bench next game to see if he can get his hunger and act together. Was pleased with the efforts of our backline, sensational again. Maxi and Presti were fantastic, as was Wakes. Clemo was his usual reliable self and led the team well.
Our shining light was the performance of Travis. What a magnificent debut, heres hoping he can go from strength to strength. Definitely one of our most exciting prospects.
Things i would like to see next week:
- Tex played up forward for the whole game
- Rowe to get at least 80% game time on the wing
- Woewodin to start on the bench, final chance before its back to willy
- Shaw not to take a backward step after being crunched late today (he was pretty darn good today)
- Travis at CHF
- Someone like Burnsy to play up forward and lock the ball in the F-50 when Taz or Tex presents and provides a contest
- More direct footy! Have more confidence in our players to outmark their opposition. You dont have to be a superstar to outmark your opponent if the ball comes in quick enough
- If we are struggling to kick goals, try something unexpected such as pushing Clemo up forward. Our backline is so solid, we might not even need him back there with Wakes, Presti and Maxi playing so well.
Hopefully next weeks team will be something along the lines of
B: Maxwell Presti Cole
HB: Morrison Wakes Clement
C: Holland Shaw Rowe
HF: Didak, C3, Caracella
F: Tex, Taz, Burns
Foll: Stretch, Licca, Johnno
Int: Yakka, Woewodin, C2, Rusling
and if Stretch isnt fit enough yet, throw in either C1 or Lonie. Hopefully O'bree and williams will be dropped

Experienced players like Lockyer, O'Bree, Williams, Woewodin, Holland and Licca were down. Willo and O'Bree must go they are too slow and not skilled enough to cut with the big boys.
A few positives
Travis- was very good and slowed us he is a real talent
Presti- was brillant, gave lloyd a bath
Rhyce- IMO should have got the medal
Wakes- again solid in defence and again took crucial marks
Rowe- excellent final term, why the hell wasn't he on more?
Clement- again very good, killed hird early then solid after that
Didak- didn't get a lot of it but showed class when he did, will get better
Malthouse- showed true passion at 3/4 time,
I say give Rusling, Yakka and Egan a go next week.

Hmmm
Before I get into the players did anyone else find the commentary on Channel Eddie yesterday some of the most Essendon biased coverage I've heard in a long time. They seemed to be looking for the free kicks that the Dons were missing out on and seemingly explaining away every one that the pies missed out on, even the obvious ones.... disgraceful Channel 9.... everyone bags Eddie and then they pull that crap out of the bag on the biggest day of the home and away season.
Agree with most comments on here although I think a few have been way too harsh on Dids, thought he was good, or at least had a go. And what does everyone see in Cole.... I mean I can see he has skill and pace when he's under no pressure. Until he learns some decision making and what to do when he isn't running at 200mph he should never be put anywhere near the defensive zone, it's just too damn dangerous.
The passion wasn't there yesterday.... and if it wasn't there on a day like yesterday when will it be there?
