Pre-Match Comments - Anzac Day match 2005 ...

Post by Two_Pies »

Monday 25th April 2005 Anzac Day - Essendon v Collingwood

Whilst Essendon have fired the first shots in an attempt to elevate their team to loftier heights, seeing Monday as a do or die struggle to restart their season. We cannot forget that this is also a must-win for us too.

Magpie team-mates have fallen to injury, bravely facing the opposition. New recruits must now stand in line and perform the brave acts that will be required to overcome the enemy.

The record of 4-5 (1 draw) is an imbalance we need to address. I urge you all to be united against the common foe, standing tall as one. Side by side we stick together.

SO HELP ME JOCK !

It's going to be a HUGE game. Only match on the day, sell-out crowd, Bombers with their backs to the wall, Collingwood suffering another spate of injuries and with their backs to the wall as well. Essendon fans must be cringing; one win and that by virtue of a goal umpire's mistake; so easily could they have been zip-4. At least, we seem to be playing pretty good footy and the two losses by small margins could so easily have been wins. The guys are also playing their guts out (couple of exceptions to that rule but 'nuff said about those gutless wonders - if they wimp it on Anzac Day, of all days, they can spend the rest of the season at Willi, reputations nothwithstanding) and their endeavour cannot be faulted. The defence is pretty solid (Jimmy, Wakes, Presti all playing solid footy, Coley showing signs of reaching his best, Maxwell slotting right back in), the midfield is playing both tough, hard, in-and-under footy (Burns, Licca, Morrison) and pacy stuff (Johnno, Shawy, Rowe) to move the ball quickly, the forward line has looked a lot better over the last couple of games and although we'll miss Pebbles and Neon Leon, I'm looking forward to seeing C3 make his debut and Taz kick a bag. I'd like to see the speedy Lonie back in the side as well, as the ground and match-up will suit him perfectly. My sixth sense tells me this will be an unforgivingly close game, maybe a couple of points the difference in the end, but that we'll get up. In the immortal words of Jack Little: "Be There!".

I'm not too worried about this match, i think the bombers are by far the worst team in the AFL. If hird can be tagged out and johnson then they have got nothing. A ten goal win by the pies should stick it up some media types like sheenan, who proclaimed the saint and tigers match was the round of the week.what a joke, i like the sainters but c'mon this is the biggest game of the year bar the GF.. This guy shows nothing but hatred towards collingwood and its massive traditions, and laughs at us calling the game a shocker, with 81,000 ppl it shows this moron has no place commenting on AFL. Its about time this idiot, indecisive dribble that is always a cliche and pathetic journalism (ala freemantle ect..) get back into the perspective of AFL, and out of their small little bs worlds. I hope when we do hit the top, they put a media ban on him and anyone else who tries to undermine the CFCs importance to the competition.

Geez... 2002 seems a long time ago now doesn't it? Oh, and the umpires got Dons home in 2001 clash, lest we forget.

Time to square the ledger.

Both teams will come out absolutely fired up as the team that losses, will really be under the pump again. I really don't rate Essendon that much and I think that even with our injuries, we should still match up well on them.
Presti should do the job on Lloyd as he does most years.
I would play Taz on the Half Forward Flank to take that Hack Fletcher out of the equation.
I would also play Morrison on Hird as he did a great job on Kouta!
Take those 3 out of the equation and we have a big chance!

PS - I am sure that no one on this wed site does, but can no one please shout out during the last post! It is one thing that really annoys me as I think a couple minutes of respect is not too much to ask!
