J26 you've given Tex 1/10, the worst in the side. A bit harsh don't you think? That goal he kicked was an absolute ripper. Everything else looks pretty good though IMO.

Yet another disappointing loss. We had so many chances late in the game to steal it, but with 3 points in a row missed out.
I think the AFL site is a bit harsh on Tarrant.
This is what they said
In an even contest that was begging for a match-winner, Magpie spearhead Chris Tarrant blew a golden opportunity when he missed a straightforward set shot from 40 metres out in the last minute of play. It would have stolen the match for the Pies.

Blew a Straight forward shot $#@% off AFL Site.
I dont think it was a straight forward shot, he was on a bad angle and on the wrong side for a left footer.

Your a bit harsh on the rankings Johno, i thought they played a brilliant game of football, every player on the field should hold their heads up high. North Melbourne did not beat collingwood last night injury did, we are twice as good as north and it showed last night in patches.
And for the people bagging the club after the last two weeks, when we have players giving their heat and sould you cannot expect to ride the lows like this when its obvious the highs later on in the season or next year are going to be huge.. Great game well done, its frustrating at best but its only a matter of time.. Lets just hope c3, dids and richo can come back in and make the diffrence we need, and smash the bumbers by 10goals.. GO PIES

Like others I watched the game as was disappointed in yet another one that got away.
Unlike others I am proud of the way the boys fought on against the odds. We were playing a team that was 0-3 and who last week over-ran one of last years preliminary finalists and one of this years flag favourites, we started with 4 of our best out and lost another early, yet despite all this they fought on.
Who can forget the way Rhyce, much maligned for his seeming lack of courage, dive in front of Sav Rocca and try and mark? Scotty Burns, who until last night was a shadow of his former self, time and time again stood under the high ball without flinching. Wakes showed courage every time the ball came near him.
There is not one player who didn't try last night and that is all we should ask. Yes they made mistakes and yes there are some players who aren't playing the way we would like at this stage, Davis, Williams, C2, Woey are all examples of this. But compare last night's effort to the first 2 1/2 games and it isn't hard to see that we won't be down the ladder all year like we were last season.
We have a lot of improvement left. We will still make the eight and from there who knows?

Hard to swallow that one. We might be thinking about that game at the end of the year if things are tight. I thought we played well and can't really be too pissed off about their efforts. Licca, Burns, Taz worked hard all night and Cole at times looked superb. Time for him to spend more time in the middle maybe? O'Bree's goal from the boundary was an absolute rip snorter i thought, twas quite funny seeing him kick a goal like that. Taz and Rocca's marks in the first got me on a semi too, how good were they? Cam worked hard but gee he pissed me off with some of his efforts. It looked at times like he was playing kick to kick at the park and trying to make his mates laugh! These half arsed attempts at taking a screamer and little banana kick short passes were a bit too much for me. He just looked like an idiot, trying to be a smart arse. Needs to get smarter.
We need to beat the bummers next week. Another crucial game against a traditional rival. Lets hope we can reproduce last weeks effort.

hey we played the side equal top and lost by 3 points we are not that far away guys, things are looking positive. We will be tough to beat from here on in 2 games by a goal or under we could very easily be 3-1 so its not all bad we just gota learn how to win the close ones. Tarrent is not to blame either as he had 119mins of footy played before he kicked that, he woulda been dog tired and played his heart out in our best 3. Go Pies

No point playing finals if we can't beat those 5 teams.Johnson#26 wrote:That wouldn't be all that bad. Melbourne
Sydney (Sydney)
Geelong
Port Adelaide (Telstra Dome)
Brisbane (Gabba)
All big losses (possibly). We need to be up for every week.

we can't afford to drop c2 atm, with rocca gone, that's one less player to share the ruck. We simply don't have anyone to replace c2 right now, maybe fanning, but he's just not as versatile as c2, besides, he's not even doing that good at williamstown.
you only take a man out when you have someone better to replace him

This is the way i saw it...
A game which we couldve won as easily as lost. Honestly, kangaroos were perhaps the better team on the night. They had way more disposals than us and looked like they would run away with it. However we had more scoring shots than them. To our credit we stuck with them and put ourselves in a winning position, a real effort from the boys.
Around the stoppages, we were dominant all night. Scott burns was by far and away our best player all night with a few goals and plenty of great in an under work, next to 26 disposals. Huge effort.
I picked two match ups before the game, i said rheece would play on wells n simpson on licuria. These 2 proved to be some of the real critical match ups. I thought simpson and licuria tied, each did some really great things. The mark that was payed to simpson in the goal square was a joke but it was probably a free kick anyway.
Rheece on Wells was the highlight of the night. Rheece went ball hunting a little too much i thought. Those who think rheece shouldnt have got the job on wells however didnt watch the game closely enough. In the third quarter, when the kangaroos looked like running away with the game, shaw tightened up on wells and dissallowed him many disposals. This fact alone allowed collingwood to hang on and claw their way back. In the last quarter rheece went loose again but this was in an effort to win the game. If anyone else played on wells, we wouldve lost by 50 points. However that said, Mick could show rheece the tape and show him a few pointers for next time. Also however, wells was forced into our backline and a lot of his disposals were ineffective. One out on the full and a few times he was coralled well by shaw and was forced to bomb away. He didnt kick any goals which was a bonus for us. Shaw in return got 20 touches and is slowly learning how to become more effective with his disposals.
The two matchups which probably cost us the game were holland on harvey and tarkyn on grant. Holland was by far and away too slow for harvey and tarkyn had a bit of a shocker on grant. I thought these matchups couldve been reversed. Holland was a better match for grant and grant is not overly fast and is not tall. Holland perhaps wouldve kept grant quiet. When Shannon Grant imposed himself, the kangas got a run on. Harvey with 29 disposals was also a match winner. Possibly cole or johnson could have been given a run on him. That said, both were effective through the midfield.
Our backline was solid again. Wakelin is in career best form. However clement played on corey jones for parts of the game. Jones was also an important factor with a few goals. Clement did his usual solid things. However at times our defense was a bit sloppy letting players like jones, firrito and hale to slip in with a few handy goals late in quarters. Presti did ok on rocca.
Sorry those who have applauded cloke, but he had a shocker last night. He put in another lionhearted performance but was easily the least effective player on field. Mick just didnt no what to do with him. When Rocca fell over, Cam was pushed up forward but had no idea how to present or where to lead. One occasion he didnt lead to the wing when he was needed and we were forced to kick to caracella against two opponents. Cloke was obviously needed here. A second occasion was when morrison had the ball outside 50 and cloke led directly up the spine. Morrison was forced to kick across goals into a dangeroius part of the ground. In return kangaroos were able to spoil an average marking attempt from cloke and get rebound off 50 and provided a goal scoring opportunity. Morrison should not have passed the ball but Cloke should have known better and shouldve put a better effort to mark or crash the pack. He also has no idea how to time leaps. This will all come, he is a prospect, but he needs a lot more work done.
That said, he is perhaps the most important player on our list, along with his brother travis now that rocca will be out for months. Also Walker will have to lift and learn how to obtain more of the ball. Both Tex and Cam were hopeless all night, apart from a promising first term from walker where he kicked a goal and had another shot on goal shortly after. However kangaroos had the luxury of been able to predict the way the ball was going to come into our forward line. It was going to be to Tarrant every time.
Tarrant was brilliant. He chased, tackled multiple players, took the mark of the year and consistently was able to get on the lead despite having 3 on him. Again however 4 goals 3 goes down as a costly night and he will be more remembered for the missed goal than his spectacular marks and chase where he tackled to kangaroos defenders. However Tarrant has the passion again. Hopefully he keeps his head up and puts a solid effort next week against an iffy essendon defence. He is so important now.
Other notes were:
-woewoedin is hopeless below his knees, he cannot control it.
-found it strange that davis and rowe werent given more game time. I thought davis actually looked dangerous when he came on.
-O'Bree by a long shot had one of his best games in a collingwood jumper. He converted goals, won contested ball, put his body on the line. That was as good as obree gets. Cant knock him on that game.
-Cant say the same about williams. He had 2 shots on goal but missed both. I said that if williams can become a 2 goal a game player he is handy. However when he gets his chances, he must take them. If he has only 2 shots on goal a game, and they are the only disposals he gets, he must take them and convert. Not a great game from him. The thing that sticks out in my mind is the snap shot where he had plenty of time but rushed it. But still, he got those two shots on goal, perhaps next week he'll get them.
Overall im not dissapointed. The loss of rocca shook the team up a lot. We lost all our direction and were a tall down.
I thought our top 3 were:
3 votes: Scott Burns
2 votes: Chris Tarrant (despite the miss, did things by himself)
1 vote: Shane Wakelin (solid in defence)
Our worst 3 were
3 votes: Cam Cloke (just didnt do anything good, despite trying hard)
2 votes: Andrew Williams (lacked compusure and couldnt win the ball
1 vote: Woewoedin (just forgot to turn up really)
O'Bree was perhaps unlucky not to score a vote, shaw just didnt hold down wells enough. Walker's first quarter saved him from getting in our bottom 3 but with rocca's absense really didnt put his hand up.
Its such a shame, 2-2 with our injury list wouldve been great but 1-3 is a bad start. However 2-3 isnt too bad either and next week becomes yer another crunch game for the collingwood football club. Despite the injuries and heartache of rocca's absense, it was a solid effort. All you can ask for is the team puts in 100% and they did. If they play that way every week, we are giong to win more than we lose. The good news is that the hunger is back, and tarrant is hitting form, the bad news is we are still bottom 8 and missing our captain and vice captain.
Richards must come back asap and cam must finally have influence on a game.
Cheers.

There's more to life than footy.........just not much more.
